Have you been dying to play the Penny Arcade game, but you don’t have an Xbox 360 or a PC? Shame on you. If that’s the case, you’re in luck as the game is coming to the PlayStation Network this Fall.
“We keep getting emails asking why our Penny Arcade game is not on PSN,” said Hothead’s CEO, Vlad Ceraldi. “We have always said we wanted to have our games on as many platforms as possible to give choice to gamers. All good things take time and we are very excited to be debuting our first PS3 title and look forward to bringing more games to this platform in the future.
One can ony imagine the rest of the game’s episodes will ship for the PS3 at the same time as the Xbox 360 and PC.

When I first heard Mike and Jerry over at Penny Arcade were making a game, I had mixed emotions. From the type of game to retaining their style and humor, I had my doubts their web comic could translate to the 3D realm. Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode 1 answers my questions and then some. With some great writing and fun gameplay, this is worth every penny of the game’s $20 price tag.
Let’s jump right into that, shall we? At 1600 Microsoft Points ($20 in the real world), Penny Arcade Adventures is the most expensive Xbox Live Arcade title to date. Right off the bat, this turned many people off to the game. How could an Arcade title cost $20, especially being the first of four episodic games in the series? By providing seven to ten hours of gameplay, that’s how. You get more out of Penny Arcade Adventures than almost every other XBLA title.
With GTA IV smashing every record in the books, we thought it would be a good idea to share with you the best launches of XBLA to date:
Rez HD, 25k units
Ikaruga, 22.5k units
Penny Arcade Adventures Episode 1, 16.5k units
N+, 13k units
This was requested by Gabe, one of the creators behind the Penny Arcade series. A few things to note here. First, these are just the XBLA numbers. You can get Penny Arcade on PC, Mac, and Linux. Second, PAA: OtRSPoD costs 20 bucks. That is a lot for an XBLA game; almost twice the normal price. We can expect much more from Gabe and Tycho with this just being the first episode, albeit a successful one.
The Penny Arcade game (I’m not saying that whole title) was released yesterday on the Xbox Live Marketplace, PC, Mac, and Linux. Yes, Tux got some gaming love. Anyway, check out how the battle system works if you were too lazy to download the demo.
Penny Arcade: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness launches this Wednesday on the XBLA, PC, Linux, and Mac. Aside from a long and fairly odd title, this game is boasting a very unique take on RPG gameplay, think dungeon master style dice rolling action. This is a labor of love for these two guys that has been brewing now for 2 years, so look for more Gabe and Tycho and characters from their universe. Only thing that has me apprehensive is the price tag of it, 1600 points or $20, can be kind of steep. The Penny Arcade guys explain that this isn’t your normal XBLA title but more of an immersive game that will take at least 10 hours to finish. This is also the first installment of a total of 4 titles.
Discover the mysteries of New Arcadia with Gabe and Tycho in “Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode One,” available on Xbox LIVE Arcade this Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. GMT (1:00 a.m. PDT). Read More »
We got some new screens yesterday for the Xbox 360 version of the upcoming Penny Arcade Adventures title. Battle your way with Gabe and Tycho to save the world from Hobos.
I’m a big fan of the work that Jerry and Mike do over there at Penny Arcade, so I’m sure I’ll pick this one up.
Who doesn’t want to jack up a hobo here and there? With Penny Arcade Adventures, you’ll get your chance. The game is looking fairly promising, and will be coming to PC, Mac, and the Xbox Live Marketplace. I wonder why no PSN love?
Hothead Games announced that Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness will include an original song by nerdcore rapper MC Frontalot. Who the hell is that, you may ask? And what is nerdcore? Let us school you…
MC Frontalot is the stage name of Damian Hess, a musician and author currently based in Brooklyn. In late 1999, Damian pioneered the subgenre of rap music called nerdcore hip-hop, a movement that has metastasized into an internet phenomenon. Nerdcore’s live-audience draw grows yearly, with acts such as Frontalot, MC Chris, MC Lars, and Optimus Rhyme filling increasingly larger venues on national tours. Damian’s independently produced MC Frontalot tracks have earned a devoted audience and his two retail albums Nerdcore Rising (August 2005) and Secrets From The Future (April 2007) are in their fourth and third printings respectively. He is the official rapper of Penny Arcade (the web’s most popular comic with 3.5 million daily readers) and headlines at their annual convention to an audience of over 5,000.
Beats and rhymes about the nerdy stuff we like. Holla.
We don’t usually post comics here, but today’s Penny Arcade hits the nail on the head when it comes to PC upgrades. To play a lot of the titles this Holiday season, you’re going to need one killer rig.
It’s a bit over the top, but this is one of the reasons I slowed my uptake of PC games and moved to consoles. I just don’t have the time, funds, or desire to keep upgrading my PC.
Hop on over the Penny Arcade to see a bigger version of the comic (in case your puny eyes can’t read it here).
