Besides the lack of party chat, I’m sure the one thing pissing off most Modern Warfare 2 players is the inability to find out how to unlock certain titles. After an hour or two of searching, I’ve found a forum that has a nearly complete list of all of the titles in MW2. I won’t waste your time so I’ll just throw the link below.
Risen will probably be brushed aside as “oh, just another RPG”, but fans of the genre shouldn’t be so quick to dismiss it as such.
Simply put, Risen is this year’s The Witcher – a dark, gritty European made RPG tailoring to a more hardcore crowd. Risen is developed by Piranha Bytes, the German game development studio behind the Gothic game franchise. To explain Risen in a nutshell, I’d say it is akin to Fable, the Elder Scrolls games, and The Witcher all rolled into one game. There are tons of quests, tons of items to pick up, and tons of monsters (and people) to fight. All the while you’ll be gaining experience and leveling a number of different skills – magic, axes, swords. If you can get past the difficulty curve and the shoddy voice acting, you’ll find a pretty solid RPG underneath, and one that is certainly worth your time.
If you’ve ever been to Las Vegas and played some of the popular slot machines, you’ll know what I mean. The fun of a video slot machine is not only the chance to win big but the chance to get one of the high paying bonus rounds during the game. While shopping in Target yesterday I found a new slot machine game for the PC and Mac by IGT called Texas Tea. It contains some of the great slot games I’ve played like Texas Tea, Tailgate Party, Rich Girl and Uncle Sam. IGT is a slot machine manufacturer and now they are releasing some of the popular (but not the most current) slot machine games into a PC/Mac format. What a way to squeeze every bit of cash flow out of a product and I love it. I already own a previous IGT game that include slots like Little Green Men and Unicorn. This is going to save me lots of money, I can spends hours of mindless fun playing slots and never step foot in Vegas. This could be a great gift for mom for Christmas.
PS3 and 360 gamers may have to wait a bit to experience the pure awesome that is Trine, a 3D platforming puzzle game developed by Frozenbyte. The game ended up being a very pleasant surprise for me when I played it, everything about it is awesome – the puzzles, graphics, and especially the music, which reminds me of the original Fable game, somewhat.
Ari Pulkkinen, the composer of the Trine soundtrack, has made the music available for download today – for a price, of course, but you can hear the main theme for free.
If you’re a console gamer who hasn’t heard of Trine, or if you are still anticipating the release of the game on PSN or XBLA, trust me – it’s well worth the wait. The PSN version has been delayed until “Q3 2009″, and the XBLA version is still in development.
Contrary to what Bill and Ted may have taught us, Napoleon Bonerhard was a dick. He was a short dick, and an asshole. On top of all that, he had the fashion sensibility of a douchebag, and often talked on his cell phone while driving.
That’s why it may come as a surprise to some that Sega would chose Napoleon as the focus of the next installment in the Total War series. Total War is one of the staples of PC gaming – a real time strategy franchise that you simply will not find on consoles – probably because RTS games are much more difficult to pull off correctly on consoles.
The game will start from Bonerfart’s early career and work it’s way up to the Battle of Waterloo, the historic battle where French Fries were first invented.
If you’re not hip to the Total War scene – take my word for it, they’re very good games. The franchise has visited a number of different time frames – Rome, Medieval ages, and most recently the 18th century, among others. You can learn more about all the Total War games and check out the new trailer at the official website.
Every year, there seems to be one single game released that manages to fly well below my proverbial radar and happens to be of incredibly high quality. This year, that game is Dawn of Discovery (also known as Anno 1404) made by German developer Blue Byte, a studio owned by Ubisoft. Dawn of Discovery is the “spiritual successor” to Blue Byte’s more famous city building/strategy game series, The Settlers, and the sequel to Anno 1701. You are given control of a fief by the Emperor and soon turn a small, sparsely civilized island into a sprawling empire of your own. Aside from a campaign mode, there is a “continuous play” sandbox mode, but no multiplayer. But who needs multiplayer when you end up playing Dawn of Discovery for ten hours straight and not realize it?
The demo for Batman: Arkham Asylum hits this Friday, August 7th and is set to bring the Batman franchise out of the murky depths from where it once was. If you are like me, you had to suffer through the Joel Schumacher Batman movies. Don’t worry! We all did, you aren’t alone! Batman Forever and Batman & Robin go down in history as absolutely horrid, abysmal Batman films (minus the Alicia Sylverstone donning Batgirl armor scene). No one has really thought to make a true Batman game since those movies came out (that I can recall). With the rebirth of the caped crusader being the gritty, dark knight brawler in movies like Batman Begins and The Dark Knight again, Eidos has set out to make a Batman game completely separate from any Batman movie. A game that is made by fans, for the fans.
I really want them to include Cesar Romero (pictured above) in some way, as I think he does an awesome job as the Joker. Sadly, the evil Joker is getting the Luke Skywalker treatment (voiced by Mark Hamill). Mr. Hamill actually does a stellar job bringing the evil Joker character to life (I had to listen closely to make sure it was him). Be sure to check out Batman: Arkham Asylum on your console of choice this Friday, August 7th. The full game hits North America on August 25th. With the release of Batman: Arkham Asylum, it will hopefully wash the bad taste out of all of our mouths (I’m looking at you old Batman George Clooney!)! The real Batman is BACK!
SF IV has just recently dropped for the PC and whenever there is a PC game, people are going to mod it. For those of us with way too much time on our hands, there are skin mods out now for frontal and back nudity for your favorite fighters. Most are creepy beaver mods for the females, but there is plenty of man ass to be had. Just click here for some screenshots. They are SFW but may haunt your dreams. Follow the links after the redirect for instructions how to make yourself a complete sexual weirdo.
Metal Gear Solid 4 is considered by many the best looking video game ever made. Period. The bar has been set for its successor and it seems that now the graphics engine is going to be built from the ground up. Is it because the Xbox 360 can’t handle it? Is it because the engine used in MGS4 was built specifically for the PS3? Either way, they promise it will look even better and still finish on time. We shall see.
It’s official, the sequel to the smash hit for the Xbox 360 has been announced for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
Dead Rising 2 will take place several years after the original story line and this time around you won’t be Frank West. The setting will be Fortune City, some sort of gambling paradise where zombies have spread.
The game is being developed by Blue Castle Games and a number of members from the original Dead Rising team are working alongside the new developers. Keiji Inafune, the game’s original producer will supposedly play an active role in the continued development of the game. Take a gander at the trailer which includes the infamous hamster ball. The official press release will follow the jump.
