New EA boss Peter Moore has been giving some insight into the always anticipated football games coming out late this summer. While admitting NFL Head Coach was not that great (no shit), he states the new one will be more interactive then ever. In important and relevant news, he also announced that for the first time in a long time, Madden will not be coming to the PC:
We knew that our decision to not develop this year’s Madden for the PC would be an unpopular decision in some circles. But I’ll reiterate what I said a couple of weeks ago in this space…the PC presents some very serious business challenges to us in the sports category, particularly because so many of you all are playing your favorite sports games on the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. We are committed to shipping a limited number of our games on the PC this year, but we’ve also had to cut a few of our games from the platform. We do have ideas for how to revitalize the PC for sports games and the types of games that are best suited to the platform, and we’ll continue to explore those.
That must be the British way of saying we are giving up on PC sports games because very few people play it. I tried playing FIFA once on a PC and it sucked. We will see how much they “explore” sports titles, but it looks like that lineup will be console only from now on.
It seems that the latest craze in game developing is to scare the shit out of people. From the looks of it, a few gamers might fudge their undies if playing this game in the dark. A wild imagination and mexican take out will also help that come to be. Check out this trailer which shows us that if something goes bump in the night, just get the fuck away from it.
Not those kind of loads you sick bastards. Loads of PC games. Over 40 titles in all are being made available for download.
Assassin’s Creed is now available for pre-purchase via Steam. In addition, Ubisoft is bringing many of its award-winning brands to Steam, including games from the Tom Clancy series, the Heroes of Might & Magic® series, the IL-2 Sturmovik collection, Far Cry®, and much more. Digital packs of many of these franchises will also be made available in the coming weeks.
Like I said before, if you’re into PC gaming and you don’t have Steam, you need to get with the program. Buying games at the store is so 1986.
Alone in the Dark is coming to every platform. No, its not Tara Reid as a Biochemist. Its the upcoming survival horror game that is supposed to make you shit yourself with fear. This trailer gives us a little taste of what to expect. Shit yourself with fear I said.
Yet another patch for World of Warcarft, Fury of the Sunwell looks to revolve around the Blood Elves and the source of their magic in Outworld. Patch 2.4 looks to add more content than you can shake a stick at and keep players raiding until all hours of the night. WoW ruining lives now for years and creating expansions and patches to keep everyone hooked, I hope your proud Blizzard.
It seems Alienware has heard the cries from owners of their pimped out 15″ gaming laptop, the M15x. We reported on the overheating and cracking issues last week. Already, Alienware has pushed out a fix.
You’ll have to email Alienware to get the new beta Bios release, X29b P3A30. You can shoot them a line at area51_m15x@alienware.com and ask for a copy, since this is a beta release. A full public version should be available shortly.
The new bios allows the GPU fan to spin up to 5400rpm to give better cooling. Your laptop might get a bit louder, but it’s not going to overheat and downclock your graphics card anymore.
Following up with Atari joining the Steam camp, Epic will be putting a large portion of their games onto Steam.
The Epic hits now available on Steam include Epic’s debut classic, Unreal Gold, as well as Unreal II: The Awakening and the Unreal Tournament series of games, including the recently released Unreal Tournament 3, which has shipped over one million copies to date.
All of Epic’s titles available on Steam are offered in the Unreal Deal Pack, an incredible value for just $59.95. And, to celebrate the launch, all of Epic’s games on Steam are available for 10% off their regular price.
I think we’ll be seeing a ton of Epic games now and in the future on Steam, except Gears of War. Since Microsoft has the publishing rights, I have a feeling it’ll be sticking to Games for Windows Live. A shame, really, since Steam is much better.
The new Lost Planet title is not really a new title after all. Its one of those expanded titles. Many of us were speculating that it would be a new game, but the features added on are worth it, especially if you have not bought the game yet. The biggest feature is the expanded multiplayer which allows you to be the Akrid; the alien race that inhabits the planet and stores the precious heat needed for survival. Another added caveat is the ability to play your friends who own the game on PC as well. I am a little disappointed and a little excited at the same time. The game as of now is only available for the Xbox 360 and PC. PS3 owners will have to wait yet again.
Looks like Epic has decided which direction to go with their development. Tim Sweeney, the big daddy at Epic, dropped some knowledge on TG Daily.
The Unreal engine is really tied to a console cycle. We will continue to improve Unreal Engine 3 and add significant new features through the end of this console cycle. So, it is normal to expect that we will add new stuff in 2011 and 2012. We’re shipping Gears of War now; we’re just showing the next bunch of major tech upgrades such as soft-body physics, destructible environments and crowds. There is a long life ahead for Unreal Engine 3. Version 4 will exclusively target the next console generation, Microsoft’s successor for the Xbox 360, Sony’s successor for the Playstation 3 - and if Nintendo ships a machine with similar hardware specs, then that also. PCs will follow after that.
Looks like Sweeney doesn’t care too much about that PC Gaming Alliance they helped form. Consoles are where it’s at, if we’re to believe the development cycle for the Unreal Engine.
Looks like Atari has no problem being fashionably late to the party, as they’ve announced they’ll be bringing an arsenal of PC games to Steam. Some games like RollerCoaster Tycoon are available now, with bigger titles like Neverwinter Nights coming soon.
“Atari is excited to team up with Steam and deliver great games through a digital platform that our fans have asked for,” said Nizzi Renaud, Vice President of Online Entertainment, Atari, Inc. “We look forward to making an extensive collection of games, across many genres, available to Steam’s extensive, globally-connected community.”
Steam really is the bees knees as far as PC gaming goes. The more companies that jump onboard, the better for everyone in the community.
