Fairytales As You Always Wanted Them

Think hormonal teenager controlling hordes of minions running in a fairy tale world terrorizing elves, dwarfs, gingerbread men, and little red riding hood with a giant axe and you have a quick idea of Overlord Dark Legend.  For the Wii it should bring the dark side out of all those little kids playing with their families who are aching for destruction.  You know you are out there, disturbed and hunting for the tooth fairy.

Interview: Overlord II

Overlord was one of my favorite sleeper games of 2007. I still want my own minions, trying to make that happen. At Comic Con, we spoke with Josh Williams from Codemasters about the upcoming sequel.

Overlord Getting Sequels Everywhere

Overlord II Screen

I was a big fan of the first Overlord game on the Xbox 360 (and subsequently the PS3). It wasn’t without issue, but the concept, controls, and gameplay all worked pretty damn well. So it’s obvious I got excited when this press release hit my desk. Many a new form of Overlord is coming.

The PS3, Xbox 360, and PC will be seeing true sequels with Overlord II. You get to control an all new Overlord with more powerful minions in a game inspired by the rise of the Roman Empire.

The Wii gets Overlord Dark Legend, where players take control of a new young Overlord as he grows into his new shoes and learns how to manage his minions and take over the world.

Finally, the DS gets Overlord Minions. In the portable version, the Overlord manages his team of minions remotely, so you hardly ever see him. You get to control the minion army with the stylus and cause havok.

All of them sound really cool and I have a feeling I’ll be picking up all three new games.

Overlord: Raising Hell Coming to PS3

Overlord Image

The once Xbox 360 exclusive adventure that pitted an Evil puppet master and his seemingly endless array of minions is coming to the PS3. There has not be a release date yet, but developer Codemasters says this summer. There was recently downloadable content released for the 360 version, and you had to pay extra, about 10 bucks, for some expanded missions and so forth. The PS3 version will have all the content new and old on one shiny Blu-ray disc. If you are up in the air on buying this game and can wait a few months; might be a wise choice.

Overlord Content Now Available for Download… 3 Months Late

overlord.JPGJust in case you are still playing Overlord, chances are you probably are not, but there will be some new pay content available. This content was supposed to come out last November, but was pushed back 3 months for reasons unknown. The new content is as follows:

  • Raising Hell, a single-player expansion previously released on PC, which includes new Abyss levels and Dungeon Challenges for 800 points
  • Challenge Pack, which hands over seven new multiplayer maps and a ‘Legendary’ single-player difficulty mode. That one’s up for 400 points

The free pack is a multiplayer?? splitscreen mode. I swear, the games I play all the time rarely get updated, yet these random ass games that are rentals at best get these updates no one is going to buy. Are you really gonna shell out 72 bucks for Overlord? Did not think so.

Rumor Busted: No Overlord for PS3

Rumor ImageYesterday we brought you a rumor that Overlord might be coming to the PS3. Today, sadly, we get to bust that rumor. Everyone here at Loot Ninja was pretty excited to see Overlord making the rounds to other consoles, but it’s not meant to be.

A spokesperson from Triumph Studios let this out to Eurogamer:

“We are not porting Overlord to PS3,” a spokesperson told Eurogamer this morning.

There you have it. The job posting is for a new, unannounced title from Triumph that should be hitting the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 sometime next year, if all goes well in development.

Rumor Mill: Overlord Coming to PS3

Could PS3 users get to fool around with minions in the near future? It seems plausible, giving a recent job posting on the Triumph Studios website for PS3 programmers.

The job posting calls for a coder with PS2 and/or PS3 experience for “Porting X360/PC code base to PS3.” Now let’s think about that for a second. Triumph Studios’ last game (aside from Overlord) was an Age of Wonders expansion in 2003. Unless they have some new, unannounced games coming our way, this job posting most likely means we’ll be seeing Overlord land on the PS3 in the near future.

What do you think? Would you like to see Overlord on other consoles? Personally, I love the game, but I’m not a big fan of ports showing up months or years later for other platforms.

Overlord (Xbox 360) Demo Impressions

I’ve been excited for Overlord since I saw the first trailer. I’m not going to lie, having my own minions is my life long dream. One day it will happen in real life. Until then, I’m stuck with the digital version, which is pretty freaking cool.

The graphics in the game are pretty crisp, but nothing mind blowing. Think Kameo-esque. The controls are terrific in the game. You use the right stick to control your minions, which is very fun. Want to knock down that tree over there? Point your right analog stick in that direction and watch those little creatures do their thing. The camera movement is spot on, which is major plus in this type of game.
