I’m a big hockey fan and I know Scuba is as well. This year’s EA title, NHL 09, could easily be the best hockey game ever made. So what do you do with that? Make a freestyle hockey arcade title, of course. Coming February 4th to the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, this looks to be the NBA Street of hockey, which could be pretty fun.
NHL 09 is one of the best sports games of all time. Hockey isn’t the most popular sport, especially here in the US, but it definitely provides an extremely fun gameplay experience. EA is looking to bring casual players into the fold with 3 on 3 NHL Arcade.
With fast paced action, crushing hits and loads of room to experiment, 3 on 3 NHL Arcade will have gamers from all walks of life excited about hockey. With no rules to hinder the action, deliver devastating checks that send your opponent over the boards and watch as he has to skate back onto the ice. If the goalie comes out of his crease to play the puck, check him. Exaggerated player-looks take center stage with 40 of the top NHL stars, representing every team, skating around the miniature rink. With game-changing power-ups falling on the ice throughout each session, serious is not the name of this game. Fly down the ice with a super-speed skater, and beat a giant sprawling goalie with a trick move for that highlight reel finish.
The game is dropping in February on both the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network for 800 MS Points or $9.99, however you prefer your digital currency. Hit the jump for the full press release and more screens.
This year’s hockey season might be over, but that doesn’t mean we can’t check out what’s coming in NHL 09 from EA Sports. Last year’s hockey games were absolutely terrific and EA definitely took the lead. Check out a bit of a teaser for what you can expect when this year’s iteration drops in September.
