It seems that sometime last week Blizzard gave its website a little bit of a upgrade. They have now made some of their games available for purchase right on their site via download. When you think about it, that’s really no small thing. So far there are only a few games for purchase, but hopefully soon we’ll see others popping up for purchase (Diablo,Diablo,Diablo,Diablo,Diablo,Diablo…pardon me…hmmm). With a little bit of luck, perhaps other sites will follow suit. We’ll just have to wait and see I suppose.
So if you are in need of an expansion for your WOW game here it is - now you don’t even have to leave your basement. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or bad thing.
Anyways.

Looks like EA is trying to re-invent their sports arcade franchises and dropping their previous brand of EA BIG and making EA SPORTS Freestyle instead. NBA Street, SSX Tricky and NFL Street were staples in the EA BIG stables, but it looks as though EA wants to change up their image and go with a different name. Three titles are scheduled to launch under the new umbrella of Freestyle with Facebreaker being the first of the three, pretty interesting how that is the very first new console IP since 2002! Time to freshen things up I guess and might as well start with the brand name, not sure I like Freestyle as much as BIG though.
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – May 6, 2008 – Electronic Arts Inc. (Nasdaq: ERTS) today launched EA SPORTS Freestyle™, a new sub-brand aimed at a growing, more casual sports gaming audience. EA SPORTS Freestyle games, while based in sports, will be playful, inclusive, casual, and easy to pick up and play for kids and parents, women and men, and casual and hardcore sports fans of all ages.

Well, we all saw this coming.
So by now you have all read that the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) had given in to pressure from local politicians and the local FOX News to pull the GTA IV ads from all the buses. So in an unsurprising move Take-Two Interactive is now suing the CTA for violating a $300,000 contract.
What on earth did they expect to happen? Seriously. Read More

Looks like Nintendo is trying to hype up Mario Kart by sponsoring some tournaments via the Mario Kart Channel. Interesting that the tournaments will have specific rules like having to use certain controls schemes, Matt must be thrilled to hear that the only way he can compete is with his favorite peripheral… the Wii Wheel! Anyone interested in participating let us know.
Bonus points: Check out the picture and name that driver?
Here is the official word:
Nintendo has thrown down the gauntlet for Mario Kart® Wii racers worldwide. Now it’s time to see who’s up to the challenge, as players take on the world in Mario Kart Wii Tournaments.

Looks like a 27 year old guy in San Diego needed his GTA fix and didn’t have the correct funds so he held up a Game Stop instead. Let the cries of video game violence begin…
Richard Fiel, 27, was arrested by police after a short standoff at the Suzuya Japanese B.B.Q. restaurant in the 5400 block of Kearny Villa Road. Police said a search of the man’s car turned up a can of pepper spray, a PlayStation 3 dual-shot controller, and “Grand Theft Auto,” “Grand Theft Auto III” and “Grand Theft Auto IV” video games.
I especially like how he picked up not only a copy of GTA 4 but also a copy of GTA 3 and a Dual Shot controller! I desperately have wanted a Dual Shot controller, but they have been sold out everywhere I go. Reporting at its finest.

I love video games as much as the next guy, shoot we here at Loot Ninja are trying to make a living out of it, but none of us would throw our day jobs away just to get a copy of a game a few days early. Would you?
Well looks like a couple of UPS workers have answered yes and tried to do the deed and snag an early copy of GTA IV. In a recent interview with a UPS worker we heard the following:
“When we have a [big name release], we communicate it to operations and security teams. We have security in place at the facilities, and we make sure they understand to keep an eye out for things to exit the building,” he explained. How did they find where games were stolen? “We had tips from people inside, and some of them were discovered at intermediate hubs… it’s easy to spot: flaps torn, some boxes are re-taped.” In most cases, the bust is as easy as finding the last person who scanned the box as full and interviewing them.

Hey everybody! Remember this game? Yeah, you remember this game. Well you may or may not be glad to hear that after the Treyarchs fifth release in the COD series, all will be handed back to Infinity Ward. I for one welcome the return of the original developers - all I can hope for now is that Treyarch doesn’t screw up COD 5 like it did the series 3rd entry. For whatever reason the two studios have begun passing off COD to one another after every incarnation.
There are a few of you out there who get a little miffed at the trash talking being thrown Treyarchs way in regards to the series. But lets do a quick common sense comparison of both developers in regards to the franchise. Yeah?! Read More

This is the stuff I enjoy reading and writing about.
A 17-year-old kid named Stacy O’Callhaghan has taken it upon himself to create a NZ mod for the PS2 Classic GTA: San Andreas. Including landmarks, streets and so forth. He is even going so far as to replicate the local police forces cars and uniforms.
I have to admit. That is pretty damn cool. I mean, who wouldn’t want to take the GTA engine and apply it to their hometowns? I certainly would. Read More

Looks like truancy is a big issue in Hamburg, Germany and the state minister has decided there is a direct correlation between truancy and demo kiosks. He is asking for all demo pods to be turned off during school hours, which I think makes some sense but what about adults that would like to demo certain games during a lunch break?
The minister has stated that:
Truancy can be the beginning of a criminal career and that’s why we have to intervene. Not every truant becomes criminal, but criminals skipped school at one time or another.
Quite the profound statement! I also believe that criminals at some point in their lives have drank water, perhaps a ban on water?
Thanks Princess o for the tip.
