I was strolling through the Base Exchange on Tinker, AFB a few days ago and I noticed that the Cinnabon was closed, and walled off. Once my dreams of pecan laden pastry had subsided, and I had wept many cinnamon-sugary tears, I noticed that the construction tape over the doorway read “GameStop, coming soon”.

Onlive, the cloud video game startup based out of Palo Alto, CA is adding some major new players into it’s investor base. Telecommunications giant AT&T.
AT&T Media Holdings Inc. and Lauder Parters LLC, a Silicon Valley venture capital firm, are part of this latest volley of support for OnLive. This action also includes three previous investors, Warner Bros, Autodesk Inc., and investment firm Maverick Capital Ltd.
OnLive seems to really be turning some heads in the industry, and with the addition of these very large companies as investors, they must be doing something right. OnLive isn’t disclosing how much money it raised in this round, saying only that the funds will go toward the launch of service sometime this winter.
Steve Perlman, OnLive’s founder and CEO, said the investments “…expands the scope of what we can do. It establishes OnLive as a real player. This is not just some goofy video game delivery company.”
This AT&T investment is pretty significant because OnLive will benefit from having a strategic parter with a stranglehold on the networking and telecommunications industries. That relationship could go far beyond video games as other types of content, from software to high definition video, gets pushed down from the clouds.
If I was a gambling man, I’d be buying stock in this company as soon as it goes public…but that’s just me.

If you were to rob a bunch of college kids in the middle of the night, what would you think you would encounter? Most likely a bunch of guys passed out drunk. As you sneak into their house to steal whatever isn’t tied down, you are fucking pwned by a pissed off gamer with a samurai sword. Turns out, a burglar has hit these guys before and stole their PS3’s and laptops. The crook who was slain has a history of breaking and entering, so you can’t assume it was not the same guy coming back for more shit.
This is not going to turn into one of those “gamers kill people because they played GTA for a few hours” stories. These were college kids at Johns Hopkins which is basically an Ivy League school. I’m not saying games drove these kids to kill people, but a few hours of Ninja Gaiden might not be a bad thing every now and then.

Damn, what the hell is going on in the game world these days? It’s crazy I tells ya. Hit the jump for more »

It seems that sometime last week Blizzard gave its website a little bit of a upgrade. They have now made some of their games available for purchase right on their site via download. When you think about it, that’s really no small thing. So far there are only a few games for purchase, but hopefully soon we’ll see others popping up for purchase (Diablo,Diablo,Diablo,Diablo,Diablo,Diablo…pardon me…hmmm). With a little bit of luck, perhaps other sites will follow suit. We’ll just have to wait and see I suppose.
So if you are in need of an expansion for your WOW game here it is – now you don’t even have to leave your basement. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or bad thing.
Anyways.

New York – May 5th, 2008
Well, we all saw this coming.
So by now you have all read that the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) had given in to pressure from local politicians and the local FOX News to pull the GTA IV ads from all the buses. So in an unsurprising move Take-Two Interactive is now suing the CTA for violating a $300,000 contract.
What on earth did they expect to happen? Seriously. Hit the jump for more »

Hey everybody! Remember this game? Yeah, you remember this game. Well you may or may not be glad to hear that after the Treyarchs fifth release in the COD series, all will be handed back to Infinity Ward. I for one welcome the return of the original developers – all I can hope for now is that Treyarch doesn’t screw up COD 5 like it did the series 3rd entry. For whatever reason the two studios have begun passing off COD to one another after every incarnation.
There are a few of you out there who get a little miffed at the trash talking being thrown Treyarchs way in regards to the series. But lets do a quick common sense comparison of both developers in regards to the franchise. Yeah?! Hit the jump for more »

April 21st, 2008 – Karori, New Zealand
This is the stuff I enjoy reading and writing about.
A 17-year-old kid named Stacy O’Callhaghan has taken it upon himself to create a NZ mod for the PS2 Classic GTA: San Andreas. Including landmarks, streets and so forth. He is even going so far as to replicate the local police forces cars and uniforms.
I have to admit. That is pretty damn cool. I mean, who wouldn’t want to take the GTA engine and apply it to their hometowns? I certainly would. Hit the jump for more »

Release Date: May 29th (Japan) TBA (U.S.) Developer: Capcom
Damn, Capcom doesn’t screw around these days does it? Only two months after its announcement (late February) the Japanese people will be receiving the Wii port of Biohazard Zero (Resident Evil here in the states). When it was released the first time for the Gamecube (Nov. 10th, 2002) it had less-than-steller reception across the pond. Nevertheless, it was a solid addition to the series with lots to offer in the way of storyline and action – albeit with that ‘been there-done that’ kind of feel. Which is probably why it didn’t do well in the states.
Anyways.
In the link I’ve included a trailer of the Gamecube version for those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about. And for those of you who do…what the hell, check it out anyways – it’s still pretty damn cool. Hit the jump for more »
Zombies in a shopping mall.
That’s the underlying cause between the lawsuit against Capcom filed by the MKR Group – representing New Line Cinema. Capcom was seeking an injunction against MKR to prevent the lawsuit from going through. But that didn’t seem to go so well for Capcom – because it ain’t happening. New Line Cinema insists that the suit is a matter of intellectual property infringement. Hit the jump for more »
