Top 10 Most Difficult Games

This is an interesting compilation of the top 10 hardest games, I cant help but notice that many of them were on the classic systems, especially the NES. I have to say that I agree with almost all of them although I played enough Contra that I could run through the entire game with three lives no problem. I was surprised by the number one spot but probably because I never really played that title. What would you have added?

Retro Review: Bionic Commando (NES)

bioniccommando.jpg

Developer: Capcom Publisher: Capcom Designer: Tokuro Fijiwara

Release Date: 12-12-1988

Bionic Commando for the NES (also known as Top Secret: Hitlers Revival in Japan) was a sequel to the popular arcade game of the same name in Japan (Top Secret). Not too many people remember that. What they do remember is the blistering difficulty the game was known for. Now I’m sure some of you were thinking “Hey, I’ve played that and it wasn’t too hard…pussy”. Those people can bite me. As I played through a couple of days ago, I’ll admit it wasn’t as hard as it used to be. But it was still goddamn hard. Remember, at the time, lots of us were used to Mario-esque platformers. And seeing as how Bionic Commando had no jump button, you can imagine the frustration. It wasn’t unlike ripping out one of our thumbs. But at the same time, we were introduced to the joys of killing Nazis in video games.

Sigh, memories. Read More »

How many games have you played in the last 3 years?

Video game collection
I was looking through my Xbox 360 profile and realised that as of January 6, 2006 when I got my 360 I have played 164 games on it, this includes about 70 or so arcade titles, but excludes demos. That is about 50 Xbox 360 games a year and about 1 per week. Not sure what everyone else’s game list looks like, but I was a bit surprised.

This list is just for my 360, I also have played at least 30 PS3 games and another 30 or so Wii games, not to mention another 20 each on the PSP and DS. PC I have been pretty light on and except for the Blizzard franchises I have been pretty quiet on that front. I have rented over 60 games from Gamefly since August of 2006 and probably traded in at least 50 games to get different ones.

Those stats are only for this generation of consoles, if I add in my Dreamcast, PS2, PS1, Gameboy, NES, SNES and Gamecube libraries (whihc unfortunately I no longer have) that number would go up significantly. I would say that in the older consoles I probably owned over 200+ games.

I would say I am a pretty avid gamer even though I have slowed down from my younger years and something tells me I won’t be slowing down anytime soon, what do you think? What does your game library look like?

Master Chief takes on Duck Hunt

What do you get when you put Master Chief in with a dog to hunt some ducks? Some serious mayhem that’s what. Check out as Halo invades this NES classic, I guess if someone had to put that laughing dog in its place it should be Master Chief. Not sure why Bob Dole made an appearance, but what the heck.

Can playing video games make you blind?

Blind
Looks like video games as well as masturbation can make you blind. Ok maybe not the latter, but video games can make your eyes tired according to doctors.

According to the Minnesota Optometric Association, hardcore gamers are at heightened risk for Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS), a condition marked by a variety of symptoms including “eye irritation, dry eyes, headaches, pain in the eyes or surrounding facial muscles, squinting, excessive blinking, increased sensitivity to light and difficulty focusing.”

My eyes get tired form playing video games but typically its because I have stayed up way too late playing games.

Alas, CVS is caused by strain from constant eye movements, often due to long hours in front of a monitor or television screen. By way of lengthy gaming sessions, gamers in particular are susceptible to developing problems, but non-gamers should also be wary of how long they watch. A survey by the American Optometric Association found that 82 percent of Americans frequently work at a computer and that 41 percent of its respondents have suffered from eyestrain.

Interesting statistics that 82% of Americans are behind a screen and of that half of them suffer from eyestrain. I never used glasses until I started using the computer hardcore, now I cant see road signs, I think I should sue Microsoft!

Female cosplay at it’s best

Cosplay
So you like hot chicks? And you like hot chicks that dress up? Well check out some pretty intense female cosplay here, some of these costumes make take hours and hours to make.

When great gaming cosplay mixes with beautiful girls, the hotness lasts for all eternity. From Tifa to Chun-Li, the SlobsofGaming are paying tribute to the most beautiful cosplay girls in history. Video games come and go, but hotness lives forever.

I have to disagree with some of the girls on the list being hot, the two that dress up like Link are actually a bit scary to me since they look like boys. The Metroid cosplay girl is pretty awesome, that costume looks good enough for a movie set.

PS3 vs. NES?

In this current next gen war everyone always looks at the PS3 versus the Xbox 360, but never against the old classic NES. Well just take a look a this 80’s commercial for playing the NES at home and you be the judge of who can rock your socks? These commercials were great, they made little to no sense, but really were entertaining.

Mario Kart thru the years

Here is a nice look at the different iteration of Mario Kart on the different consoles over the years, a lot of the same mechanics and gameplay is still in effect, but you can see the evolution in the graphics. Even though the SNES version is the most inferior when it comes to graphics it was probably my favorite, with my least favorite game being Double Dash for the Gamecube.

Target: Terror - Wii Vid

Target: Terror for the Wii looks terrible. After watching this all I can say is, why? Why would you name it this and make such a bad looking and playing game? This looks so un-inspired, it is a horrible knockoff of Lethal Enforcers, an old shooter from the SNES days. The on screen shootings look horrible and the voice acting is even worse, this screams bargain bin $9.99 game, is this what the Wii is being reduced to if the game does not have Mario in it?
