ATV Offroad Fury was one of my favorite games for the PS2. So when they THQ decided to bring the game, plus MX to the current gen, I was all over it. But Motorstorm beat them to the punch and set the bar for this style of game. MX vs. ATV: Untamed just doesn’t match up, unfortunately. Here is a breakdown of some of the facets of MX vs. ATV: Untamed for the PS3:
Presentation and Graphics: The menu system in the game annoyed me a bit. It’s difficult to find exactly what you’re looking for. You sometimes have to pull up options in sub-menus to find exactly what you need. Graphics are decent, but nothing that will knock your socks off. I was expecting some better dirt and mud effects. THQ sent over a copy of MX vs. ATV: Untamed for the PS3 for us to review. I spent a little bit of time with it during the Holidays, enough to you give you my first impressions of the game.
Having been a huge fan of Rainbow Studios’ ATV Off Road series, I was excited for this release from the jump. The game is a follow up to 2005’s MX vs. ATV: Unleashed and adds a bit of depth to what Motorstorm had brought to the table. From the looks of things, this game had it all. You’ve got individual events for MX and ATV as well as mixed events. Each race has courses you would expect for that particular type of vehicle, giving you the proper jumps, turns, and mud to splash though. The problem is it’s implementation.
