If You Pay to See Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, You Should be Slapped

Street Fighter The Legend of Chun-Li

I know we all hope for good gaming movies, but every time, the movie sucks donkey balls. The next in the list is Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. The movie is flat out horrible.

At press time, the movie has a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is an aggravate of almost all reviews. There’s an average of a 2.1/10 rating based on 20 reviews. Ouch.

If you pay to see this, I point and laugh in your face. This could be one of the absolute worst gaming movies, which isn’t saying much. Maybe we can get a decent game movie at some point? Maybe? No?

What the Eff… is up with Video Games and Movies?

Is it just me or do the majority of movies based on video games, and video games based on movies, suck?  Why is this?  Honestly I don’t have a good answer other than sheer laziness.  The “milking it” factor.  The “it doesn’t matter as long as the previews look good to boost sales” motto – disgusting.  Max Payne, the movie based on the video game, was horrible (in my opinion), and made a ton of money off of the sheer idea that it’s Max Payne in movie form.  Now we’ve seen sci-fi type, action packed, adventure movies actually work in the past – The Dark Knight, 300, The Matrix (only the original; here is another example of laziness, but that’s not my quarrel now) – but I have yet to see a video game conquer the big screen with any dignity.  And the biggest issue I have with this is that there are plenty of great video games than can be made into great movies.

Comics Pwn Games: 3 Things the World of Gaming Needs to Learn From the World of Comic Books

I’m not really a comic book reader at all, I’ve probably bought five of them in my whole life with the last one being at least fifteen years ago.  In fact, I had to call my comic book fan friend, Jesse Hubberd (thanks Jesse), just to be sure that I had all of my facts and timing straight.  This is written from a gamer’s perspective for gamers and is just a few observations on things that our fellow geeks have gotten right and we need to learn from.

#1. THE GATHERING

Comic-Con is a legitimate entertainment event.  Last year’s event boasted 126,000 attendees and quite a few celebs.  It is a place where sneak preview trailers are shown to fans as big Hollywood players wait anxiously for the verdict of the geek.  That said, the news_this_week that E3 is trying to return to its former glory is something that should have all gamers rejoicing.  It does not mean that instantly it will rival Comic-Con in relevance, (though I hope some day it might), it just means that gaming finally has its big show back.  E3 was, and hopefully again will be, THE place each year where game developers better bring their big guns, and a place for gaming to get its time in the spotlight.
