Many Nintendo Wii owners often griped about the lack of DVD playback well it seems that X-OOM has found an answer. It still sounds a bit hokey and this editor will continue to use his regular DVD player or his PS3 to watch movies. You still have to deal with SD memory since there is no HDD, which means you are limited to the size of files you can watch on the Wii.
X-OOM’s latest software, supporting the MJPEG codec, allows for perfect quality playback. Simply run the DVD on a PC and save the file using ‘Movies on Wii’ to the appropriate format; once this is complete, transfer the file to the Wii using an SD memory card.
With a number of editing options including an ‘Expert Mode’, you can also cut and back up individual scenes and whole movies as you wish. With help from X-OOM’s Fit-To-Stick technology, movies can be automatically loaded onto the memory card in a short, simple process using only the space that is available.
X-OOM Movies on Wii offers extensive support of video formats including DivX®, XviD, MPEG2, MPEG4, WMV etc.
In case you didn’t know, 300, one of the better “guy” movies around, came out today on DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. I picked up the Blu-Ray version so I could take advantage of the Linear PCM audio.
I think I’ve soiled myself a couple times already. The video quality is great at 1080p, even through the film’s gritty look. The sound is pretty outstanding. I’ve jumped a couple of times at some of the sounds in the movie.
One of the reasons Sony stated for releasing the 80GB PS3 is to add more room for people to download high definition movies and TV shows. We all knew something of the sort was coming, but I expected a big announcement, not just a short fleeting line in a press release.
However you look at it, this could be even better than the Video Marketplace on the Xbox 360, as Sony owns and controls a large portion of Hollywood movie studios. The library Sony could offer is enormous, and it would almost make the PS3 vs. Xbox 360 download services another format war similar to Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD.
Expect more details, with launch date, coming this Wednesday at Sony’s E3 press event. Thankfully, this will have to signify a re-haul of the PlayStation Store, which will no doubt make it easier to navigate.
Usually making a movie solely based on a video game has lead to some of the worst cinema this world has ever seen. When I first heard of a Hitman movie, I cringed. After seeing the teaser trailer, I cannot wait. This looks bad ass. Thanks to ign.com for the video.
OK, I think the folks at HBO owe everyone an apology after that horrible ending of the Sopranos. We all know the show was running on fumes, but they could of at least ended it in style. That episode offered nothing and just made me and other viewers angry. I actually checked my cable box to see if it broke… but no Sopranos just sucked. Good riddens to a bad show, those writers should be hung from their junk!! What do you think??
Sega has just announced that it has signed multiyear deals with The Hulk, Capt America, and Thor. While it is still funny that a fictional character can sign a deal, nonetheless, they are now apart of Sega who is trying to revitalize the once proud company. Yahoo reports that Sega has officially added the three to its company and hopes to make movies and next gen games. There is a new Hulk movie coming out in 2008 with Ed Norton playing Bruce Banner. There is also a next gen game planned as well with the release of the movie. No word yet on a Thor or Captain America movie, just speculation and rumors, but the Hulk movie is already under contract. With so many comic book based movies and games either out and on the horizon(most of them suck), this could usher in a new era with the some old characters we have not seen done yet in the 21st century.
Our very good friend Major Nelson, reported today that both the Daily Show and the Colbert Report will be available for download on Xbox Live Video Marketplace just hours after they appear live. Thats awesome. The price for each show? 160 points!! Wow, thats like 2 bucks an episode. You can get 16 episodes for 10 dollars on iTunes. When iTunes offer you better deals, you know something is wrong. Furthermore, Jon Stewart is a fraternity brother of myself and drunk pandas(editor in chief), I simply can’t dish that kind of cash out. I like where its headed, the very fast turnaround on downloadable content, but things need to get reasonable.
There are very, very few movies that are don’t suck all kinds of ass that result from a video game as inspiration. You remember such cinematic gems as Mario Bros The Movie and Street Fighter with Jean Clauge Van Damme, the second Mortal Kombat, and pretty much anything Uwe Boll touches(Bloodrayne, Alone in the Dark, Far Cry(in production). Nevertheless, Variety has disclosed that New Line cinema is going to make the Gears of War movie and wants to sync it with the sequel we all know is coming. Epic studios wants to create the buzz that Halo has done for Bungie and basically solidfy their future as a production company. No word on the plot or cast, but we will let you know as soon as we can. I hope that they use the trippy Gary Jule version of Mad World. Here is a video of it from youtube.
OK I have to admit that the new TMNT video game and movie have me excited. It must be all the TMNT cartoons I watched as a kid, I am definitely looking forward to having Donatello bash in some Foot Soldiers with his Bo.
