If you haven’t gotten word yet, let me break it for you here. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, aka Modern Warfare 2, aka MW2, formerly known as Prince, has leaked the new kill streak reward list. After 25 kills you are rewarded with a tactical nuke. That is a nuclear device designed to detonate and killing at least the bad guys on the map and declare your team the winner.
On this game alone people can get pissed about the fear of perverts with cheap Night Vision Goggles. They can get pissed about the possibility that you can kill some civilians. People can take up arms over the fact that the PC version won’t have dedicated servers. They can cancel their pre-orders over the lack of private chat online. But everyone is A-Fucking-O.K. with awarding someone who virtually kills 25 people by giving them a tactical NUCLEAR weapon. Where are the demonstrations? The liberals, the bleeding hearts? Kojima? SNAKE!?
I figure in this day and age of ultra sensitivity about everything a hot topic the use of nuclear weapons would raise a little controversy. Especially if you mix two hot topics like video games and nuclear weapons there would be a few angry letters. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy for the lack of coverage demonizing the industry and hobby we all love so dear but please tell me. Am I missing something here? Should someone be angry? North Korea maybe? This feels like a trap to me, maybe it’s revenge for the dedicated server fiasco? I don’t know anymore, you tell me.
Can’t get enough Modern Warfare 2? Want to get hyped even more heading into our upcoming Community Playdate? Love football? Of course your answer is yes to all the above, so you’ll be pleased to hear that Activision and Infinity Ward have a new trailer for Modern Warfare 2 showing during tomorrow night’s Sunday Night Football game. Make sure your HDTV is glued to NBC while the Charges take on the Steelers (which should be a great game, by the way).
The above image is a still capture from the trailer, so go ahead and over analyze whatever tiny bits of information you can gather. Whatever you discover won’t change the fact that Modern Warfare 2 will be the multiplayer game to have this Holiday Season.
With the E3 on stage demo and the recent multiplayer press showcase. Infinity Ward has a monster on their hands with Modern Warfare 2. But what we’re seen so far only scratches the surface of what the game really has to offer. Robert Bowling, IW’s Community Manager who also goes by “fourzerotwo”, dropped some wisdom at the recent multiplayer event:
There are some huge surprises. What’s awesome is, we’ve done all the press we’ve done so far, we’ve shown Cliffhanger, we’ve shown some Favela, we’ve set the tone of what Modern Warfare 2 is, and yet there is something we haven’t talked about that, and the reason we haven’t talked about it is because once you see it you completely forget everything we’ve already talked about. It becomes this whole new game. That’s what I’m excited for.
Interesting, to say the least, what might come from Modern Warfare 2. My guess is something surrounding the single player portion of the game, most likely co-op. Infinity Ward is very tight-lipped about MW2, so when they’re ready, we’ll know. Until then, I’ll be playing ODST and waiting for November 10th.
Make sure you all get your copy of Modern Warfare 2 as soon as you can for our Xbox 360 Community Playdate on November 15th!
It’s official: our next Xbox 360 Community Playdate will be November 15th playing Modern Warfare 2. We’ll be the first Community Playdate on the game after its release November 10th. Microsoft has all the info live on the Xbox website, so check it out.
We’ll be officially playing from 8-11pm ET, but you can expect a few of us to be on beforehand and others will be staying late. Modern Warfare 2 looks be a strong contender for multiplayer game of the year, so we’re excited to be the first event for the game.
Clear your schedules and put us on your calendar. We’re calling in air strikes for that ass.
It’s been teased a few times, but Infinity Ward and Activision finally showed off a full trailer for Modern Warfare 2. Looks like they’re going to up the ante from CoD4 with more interactive environments and all hell breaking loose. I think it’s going to be a hard fought battle for FPS of the year for 2009. Looking forward to this one dropping on November 10th.
Activision showed off a super quick teaser for Modern Warfare 2 the other night during a playoff basketball game, further indicating that a longer gameplay reveal video would be coming May 24th on TNT during the NBA game.
I have a feeling the ratings for that game will be significantly higher than normal with all the gamers clamoring to get their eyes on what could be a contendor for best multiplayer game of the year. It’ll be an interesting race between this, Killzone 2, and Halo ODST.
There were rumblings all day yesterday at GDC about something big going down at the Game Developer Awards ceremony at GDC. The rumblings turned out to be the debut teaser of Modern Warfare 2, which may or may not have shed the Call of Duty name (the trailer only calls it Modern Warfare 2). Activision and Infinity Ward also dated the game for release November 10th of this year. While a lot of people think this is a huge bombshell announcement, I have to disagree. We already knew the game was coming this year, and while trailers are nice, it’s about the right time to start dropping information about the game. What do you think? Huge announcement or something expected? Watch the trailer and let us know.
