If you think people have forgotten about the LOTR universe, you are mistaken. As the MMORPG LOTR Online continues to bring in new gamers everyday, they are continuing adding new areas to explore thus creating more quests. We can now explore the Mines of Moria, the once great halls of the Dwarves. Who knows what lurks inside the deep and dark crevasses but one thing is for sure. Now we can find out.
In case you were worried that Lord of the Rings Online would lose it’s license with Tolkien Enterprises, Turbine announced today they’ve extended their license for online games until 2014. This means that LoTRO and future expansion packs and sequels will all be available for the next six years.
“We’re thrilled with the global success of The Lord of the Rings Online since its launch in 2007,” said Jim Crowley, president and CEO of Turbine, Inc. “With the recent announcement of what are sure to be two blockbuster films based on The Hobbit and a sequel, we expect the success of the license and our relationship with Tolkien Enterprises to grow for years to come.”
Turbine is doing one hell of a job already, so I can only imagine how it’ll be once The Hobbit is released. If you haven’t checked out Lord of the Rings Online, there’s a free 7 day trial, so get on it.
Fans of Turbine’s Lord of the Rings Online can sit back and enjoy the newly released content update for the game today, as Book 12 has been officially released. Here’s what you can expect from this new free update.
More Customization – Book 12 introduces the Outfit system which features new gear and options to let players truly customize their hero’s appearance without impacting the stats of their armor. Players can also visit one of the many new barbershops in Middle-earth where they can choose from one of more than 50 new hairstyles.
The Delving of Frór — Monster Play evolves in Book 12 with an innovative new dungeon that implements 12-player raid mechanics into a dynamic player-vs-player (PvP) environment. The Delving of Frór is controlled by the faction currently winning the battle in the Ettenmoors. Players who gain access to this vast new public dungeon will participate in a challenging raid that pits them against fearsome foes while they face the constant threat of an opposing faction gaining control of the Ettenmoors above and quickly transforming the Delving of Frór into an all-out PvP battle.
Housing Enhancements — The player housing system, which was introduced in Book 11, has been significantly enhanced to provide players with even more control over the items they place in their home. A host of new trophies and other bind-on-acquire items have been added to help players make their home reflect their unique tastes and accomplishments in Middle-earth.
The Epic Continues! — Elrond sends players to rescue Laerdan from Amarthiel deep within Carn Dûm. Through their investigations, players will discover the location of Narchuil, the ancient Ring Amarthiel lost at the Battle of Fornost. Players will battle an Angmarim sorcerer, but only manage to recover half of the ring before returning to Rivendell to inform Gandalf.
Over 100 New Quests — The story continues for players as they aid the Fellowship and encounter new adventures in Middle-eart
Did I mention this update is free? Gotta love Turbine pumping a ton of content regularly into the game. This is probably the most played MMO over at Loot Ninja headquarters, easily surpassing WoW.
Turbine sent out a press release today to let us know that Lord of the Rings Online, their flagship MMORPG, will be the first of it’s genre to support DirectX 10 and NVIDIA GeForce Graphics Processors.
Players can now experience Middle-earth™ like never before with major improvements to The Lord of the Rings Online’s graphics, including upgraded shaders for water, particle effects and lighting for distant terrain. Players will also be treated to new levels of immersion with the new DirectX 10 exclusive dynamic shadowing features which render realistic real-time shadows in the vast outdoor environments of The Lord of the Rings Online.
This is one of the best MMORPG’s on the market, and our personal favorite here at Loot Ninja. Sadly, none of us have DX10 hardware to take advantage of us. If you’re a LotRO player and have DX10 with Vista, let us know how much better the game looks.
Not content with drinking tons of beer in the real world, MapleStory is recreating the German festival in their online realm.
To take part in the event – which is open to everyone and can be participated in once a day for the duration of the promotion – players must deliver a hidden sample of ‘malt’ to MapleStory Europe’s ever present event-NPC Charles. Doing so rewards them with entry to an exciting new beer tent map, where they can enjoy a traditional, hearty German atmosphere of ale, sausages and lederhosen. By completing special objectives within the beer tent, such as fighting off a horde of red-faced, staggering monsters, players can win themselves special Oktoberfest themed items such a German sausage-shaped hat and power boosting mugs of (non-alcoholic!) beer. Players are also encouraged to collect empty beer glasses dropped by monsters, which in turn can be exchanged for special stat-enhancing food items.
Sounds like fun to me. MapleStory has added new features frequently over it’s life span, which definitely adds to the gameplay.
Maple Story, the free MMORPG on the PC, is set to receive an update and two new towns, Mu and Herb Town. Herb Town sounds like a fun place to be… maybe we should all move there
Nexon America Inc. (http://www.nexon.net), the U.S. division of Asia’s leading online games company Nexon Group, injects its blockbuster game MapleStory with two new towns to explore, the mountain village of Mu Lung and the seaside Herb Town. New Leaf City, one of the Maple World’s most popular areas, will also receive a Free Market so players may buy and sell goods. This latest update to the diverse Maple World encourages more players to login and learn why MapleStory is a global phenomenon.
If you’re a Maple Story player, this is good news. Fire up your copy of the game and grab the new updates.

I should have done this write-up earlier but I was busy leveling
World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade is the first expansion to Blizzard’s insanely popular MMORPG World of Warcraft which has over 8 million subscribers worldwide. If you have no idea what the original game is about or need some background, check this out. I played the original way too much, so naturally, I waited in line for the midnight launch. Standing in line at midnight for anything other than free head probably isn’t a good idea, and being there with about 75 other guys from that episode of South Park to get the game 8 hours early made me feel pretty self conscious. Oh well. Hit the jump for more »
