This editor is one person that at this second is logging off the site to watch the final game ever to be played at the house that Ruth built, thats right Yankee Stadium is hosting its last baseball game ever between the New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles. A brand new stadium has been constructed right across the street from this iconic and almost cathedral like stadium and we must now say goodbye to this old girl.
Yankee Stadium is celebrating its 85 year in existence, established in 1923, today marks the last time any pinstriped players will play in this Bronx stadium. This is a bitter sweet moment as we reminisce over all the great times and games and close the book on a chapter in Yankee history.
At least moving forward we can expect to see this classic stadium as an unlock-able or extra stadium in every single baseball game to be produced. If MLB the Show and the MLB 2K series don’t add in the classic Yankee Stadium into their code they will be committing a huge sin against baseball and its fans. Suddenly makes me want to hold onto my copy of MLB Power Pros seeing as the cartoon Yankee Stadium is the last of its kind that will grace my television.
Excuse me as I pry myself away from the computer to watch this monumental moment live. Let’s go Yankees!
Looks like Mario is getting into the swing of Major League Baseball by attending the September 5th game at Safeco Field between the Seattle Mariners and the new York Yankees. Nintendo is planning on setting up interactive kiosks throughout the park where fans can play Mario Super Sluggers between innings. Also to spice things up the gang over at Nintendo will be giving away a prize package every inning, which includes a Wii and a copy of the game. Not a bad way to watch a baseball game and get a shot at winning a console, more ballparks should try similar things to get fans interested. So if your in the area drop on by Safeco Field and check it out.
When : September 5th
Time : 7:10 PM
Where: Safeco Field 1250 1st Ave S. Seattle WA 98134
It looks like the Wii is going ot milk Mario until he is bone dry, yet another Mario based title will be launched this Spring… Mario Super Sluggers. Mario goes baseball after he gets done racing around in his Kart apparently. It should prove to be interesting since the Wiimote lends itself perfectly to a baseball game, but I can only hope that it is better than the Wii Sports baseball and MLB PowerPros already released.
Here is the official Nintendo press release:
REDMOND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– The ongoing excitement over Nintendo’s groundbreaking Wii™ system gets a surprise springtime boost with the announcement of a new game. Kicking off its semiannual media summit in San Francisco near the company’s new sales and marketing offices in Redwood City, Calif., Nintendo of America today revealed plans for Mario Super Sluggers™ for Wii, giving baseball fans even more reason to root this season. Opening Day is fast approaching and this year’s baseball titles are upon us. MLB 08 The Show, the best of the year, celebrates a baseball fan’s happiest day with this new trailer.
MLB 2K8 is coming out in two weeks with a brand new pitching interface. From the looks of things, the game is going to give MLB 08 The Show a serious run for its money. From our hands out experiences and all footage we’ve seen, the games look neck and neck right now.
Check out this three part interview with one of the best young pitchers in the game, Dontrelle Willis.
If you’re keen on listening to your own tunes while playing games, you’ve probably been disappointed with the PS3 thus far. MLB 08 The Show looks to add some remedy, as you’ll be able to customize your in-game soundtrack with music stored on your PS3 hard drive. Oh yeah, this works on the PSP as well!
I’ve never been too big into custom soundtracks. I usually like to rock whatever is in the game. But this is something I’ll definitely try out, since I do have a decent amount of music on my PS3 and PSP.
Don’t forget, demos for the PS3 and PSP version of MLB 08 The Show come out later today with the weekly PlayStation Store updates.
That’s right folks, it’s time for some new baseball demos. The season is fast approaching and Sony’s title will be ready to satisfy your needs. According to the fine folks over at PlayStation.Blog, demo versions for both the PS3 and PSP will be available tomorrow on the PlayStation Store.
I’m definitely excited for this one. MLB 07 was one of, if not the best baseball game I’ve ever played. And from the hands on timed we had with MLB 08 a few months back, I can’t wait to play on my couch with a cold beer.
Sony released two new gameplay videos for MLB 08: The Show. One is the Mets vs. Braves, the other is Yankees vs. Red Sox. As a huge Mets fan, you can guess which one I buried after the break
I continue to be amazed at the graphics in the game. The detail in the stadiums, especially in the new construction behind Shea, is amazing. Animations look to have gotten even better than last year as well. I’m not sure MLB 2K8 will be able to match the detail and gameplay in this title. Can’t wait until March to play.
Yesterday we brought you news that Ryan Howard will be gracing the cover of MLB 08 The Show. Today, we’ve got some screenshots for you to show off just how good the game looks.
Like I said yesterday, can’t wait until March for this one.
Ryan Howard, star first baseman for the Philadelphia Phillies, will be this year’s cover athlete for MLB 08 The Show on Sony platforms. From the press release:
Known for his prolific power and ability to drive in runs, Howard is just the second player in Major League Baseball™ history to win the Rookie of the Year honors and a Most Valuable Player award in successive seasons. During his 2006 MVP season, Howard led the Major Leagues in home runs (58), which broke the record for most home runs in a sophomore season set in 1947 by Ralph Kiner (51), won the All-Star Game™ Home Run Derby® with a total of 23 blasts, and was the 2006 National League™ Hank Aaron Award recipient, the award given to the top hitter in each league.
Howard is a huge star and one of the best pure left handed power hitters in the game today. The guy flat out destroys the ball. Good for him making the cover this year! The game, from everything we’ve seen, looks absolutely phenomenal. Can’t wait until March to play.
