MLB 08 The Show Brings Custom Soundtracks

MLB 08 The Show Playlist

If you’re keen on listening to your own tunes while playing games, you’ve probably been disappointed with the PS3 thus far. MLB 08 The Show looks to add some remedy, as you’ll be able to customize your in-game soundtrack with music stored on your PS3 hard drive. Oh yeah, this works on the PSP as well!

I’ve never been too big into custom soundtracks. I usually like to rock whatever is in the game. But this is something I’ll definitely try out, since I do have a decent amount of music on my PS3 and PSP.

Don’t forget, demos for the PS3 and PSP version of MLB 08 The Show come out later today with the weekly PlayStation Store updates.

MLB 08 The Show Demos Tomorrow

Ryan Howard Screen 7

That’s right folks, it’s time for some new baseball demos. The season is fast approaching and Sony’s title will be ready to satisfy your needs. According to the fine folks over at PlayStation.Blog, demo versions for both the PS3 and PSP will be available tomorrow on the PlayStation Store.

I’m definitely excited for this one. MLB 07 was one of, if not the best baseball game I’ve ever played. And from the hands on timed we had with MLB 08 a few months back, I can’t wait to play on my couch with a cold beer.

Let’s go Mets!

MLB 08: The Show Gameplay Videos

Sony released two new gameplay videos for MLB 08: The Show. One is the Mets vs. Braves, the other is Yankees vs. Red Sox. As a huge Mets fan, you can guess which one I buried after the break :)

I continue to be amazed at the graphics in the game. The detail in the stadiums, especially in the new construction behind Shea, is amazing. Animations look to have gotten even better than last year as well. I’m not sure MLB 2K8 will be able to match the detail and gameplay in this title. Can’t wait until March to play.

Ryan Howard Named to MLB 08 The Show Cover

Ryan Howard Image

Ryan Howard, star first baseman for the Philadelphia Phillies, will be this year’s cover athlete for MLB 08 The Show on Sony platforms. From the press release:

Known for his prolific power and ability to drive in runs, Howard is just the second player in Major League Baseball™ history to win the Rookie of the Year honors and a Most Valuable Player award in successive seasons. During his 2006 MVP season, Howard led the Major Leagues in home runs (58), which broke the record for most home runs in a sophomore season set in 1947 by Ralph Kiner (51), won the All-Star Game™ Home Run Derby® with a total of 23 blasts, and was the 2006 National League™ Hank Aaron Award recipient, the award given to the top hitter in each league.

Howard is a huge star and one of the best pure left handed power hitters in the game today. The guy flat out destroys the ball. Good for him making the cover this year! The game, from everything we’ve seen, looks absolutely phenomenal. Can’t wait until March to play.

Hands-On Preview: MLB 08: The Show (PS3)

MLB 08 Screen

MLB 08 follows up on last year’s critically acclaimed title, MLB 07. This year’s title looks a good deal better than the 07 iteration. The development team put a great deal of enhancement into the textures, lighting engine, and facial details. The game is looking very close to a real baseball broadcast. Sony had MLB 08 side by side with MLB 07 running on identical Bravia XBR LCD’s and the difference was night and day.

The Road to the Show mode has also been enhanced this year to give you better control over your progression to the big leagues. You will have the opportunity to see what tasks will give you how much clout in moving up in your career. This caries over into the franchise mode, where playing above of below a player’s expectations will result in an increase or decrease in compensation. Have a great year with your center fielder and get a contract extension. Play like crap with your star third basemen and you might get traded. It’s little things like this that brings the game closer to reality.

MLB 07: The Show Predicts Outcome of World Series

MLB 07: The Show Screenshot

With the MLB World Series starting tonight, Sony took it up on themselves to see who would win in a simulated event in their PS3 title MLB 07: The Show. Their prediction: the Rockies are going to “stomp” the Red Sox.

The Rockies will take the first two at Fenway. The Sox respond by taking two of three in Colorado and game six at home to even up the series.

In game seven, with Fogg throwing for the Rockies and Daisuke hurling for the Sox, the Rockies pound out a 9 to 4 win.

There you have it. Place your bets now, because computers are never wrong. Hit the jump for more »

MLB 2K7 Stadium Downloads Now Available for Xbox 360

MLB 2k7

These aren’t free, so get ready to pony up some MS Points for 6 classic stadiums for MLB 2K7. Currently these are available for the Xbox 360, and I’d image the PS3 versions will show up later this week during the regular Thursday update of the PlayStation Store.

For 800 MS Points ($10 US), you get six classic stadiums: Sportsman’s Park (St. Louis Cardinals and Browns), Forbes Field (Pittsburgh Pirates), Griffith Stadium (Washington Senators), Shibe Park (Philadelphia A’s and Philles), Polo Grounds (New York Giants and Mets), and Crosley Field (Cincinnati Reds).

Personally, I don’t see the point in paying for new stadiums in sports games. It doesn’t really add much to the gameplay (unless you get something like the classic Yankee Stadium where the outfield wall is about 500ft away from home plate). But hey, there’s a lot of people that disagree with me and will gladly spend the money for these stadiums.

You have the option to get all 6 stadiums for 800 MS Points, or you can pick them up in packs of 2 for 300 MS Points Each (note the 100 MS Point discount for buying them all together).
