Mirror’s Edge Time Trial DLC in January

DICE has announced today that Mirror’s Edge will be receiving it’s first downloadable content in late January.  The content will consist of seven brand new Time Trial maps with nine races to participate in.

“The freedom of movement and control in first person has been the most popular aspect of Mirror’s Edge so we decided to distill these down to their purest form for this map pack,” says Owen O’Brien, Senior Producer, DICE. “We deliberately chose a more abstract aesthetic that is still within our distinctive art style and then focused on flow and gameplay to create an experience and challenge very different from the main game.”

“No guns, no cops, and no city: this is true aesthetics, agility and flow that will challenge any runner.”

The DLC will be available for the PS3, Xbox 360 and the PC because today DICE has also confirmed that the PC version of the game will ship worldwide on January 16th.  The DLC will be priced at $10 or 800 Microsoft points and all of you PS3 owners will be able to download an additional map for free.  Just one of the many perks of owning a PS3, right fanboys?

Review: Mirror’s Edge (Xbox 360)

First Impression:  Wow.

Second, and third, impression:  Amazing.

This review has taken me longer than I anticipated originally to write.  The first time I played Mirror’s Edge I was amazed at the originality.  For a long time I have been seeing the same games being made and released, always with guns and wars and big scary monsters; it all becomes so boring after a while.  However, Mirror’s Edge took this bane monotony and flipped it upside down.
From the word go you know you’re in for something sweet.  I don’t want to get too far into the overall plot of the game for several reason; but know that you are Faith, a “runner” in a totalitarian city that keeps its citizens under constant surveillance in order to keep its power.  You are faced with lots of obstacles in an attempt to destroy the corruption in the city.

Demo Impressions: Mirror’s Edge (PS3)

I JUST POOPED A LITTLE!!!

Developer: Digital Illuisons CE (DICE) Publisher: EA Release Date: November 11th, 2008

It’s really no big secret that I’m not a huge fan of EA these days – they buy up too many of my favorite game companies. Leave the little guys alone for shit’s sake.

Anyways.

I always thought that the danger of a more generic, uninspired view of making games would become more prevalent as more games fell under the umbrella of one company. I believe that still. But Mirror’s Edge is one of the few titles that make me think that EA could still move a couple genres forward if they felt like it.

Check it out.
