Fallout 3 Midnight Launch at Best Buy

Today is the day.  Maybe you are even reading this from the car as you prepare your equipment to enter the dreaded line in anticipation for Fallout 3.  If you reside in any of the northern states I would recommend to bring more than a blanket.

Bethesda Softworks and Best Buy have teamed up to bring you a midnight release of Fallout 3 in select cities.  Lines will start forming around 3 P.M. local time today.  Bethesda’s hometown Best Buy in Rockville, Maryland will be the flagship location with special festivities along with developer signings of your copy of Fallout 3.  If you are no where near this location there are plenty of other metropolitan areas to travel to.  This is one of the biggest games of the season so if you have any chance at making the midnight launch you should definitely go for it.  A list of the select cities will be after the jump.

So it looks like Metal Gear Solid will also get some midnight launch love much like the other large anticipated titles before it. Curious to see how many will show up for this one since the PS3 is the most expensive of the three consoles. On June 12 you will see people line up to get their hand’s on some Solid Snake as soon as possible. I have to say that this title at first only mildly interested me until I saw the screenshots of this killer app. MGS4 will be able to boast some of the nicest graphics to date on any system, let’s just see how many cut-scenes are involved in this epic game.

GTA IV: The Midnight Launch

GTA4 Screen 4

At the stroke of midnight, gamers will get a chance to experience what the lucky few in the industry already have, Grand Theft Auto IV. Midnight launches were once a thing for obsessive fanboys with afternoon jobs and nothing to do but stand in the cold and wait for a comic book, a game, a deck of role-playing cards, etc. Now midnight launches have taken on a new meaning. Its a time when gamers alike will gather until the clock strikes for one common goal. You will see grown-ass men with jobs, like Matt, who will be out tonight waiting in line to get their hands on what many are calling the single greatest achievement in gaming.

Every August there is Madden Day. Last fall we got Halo 3 day. This year its GTA day. Will all due respect to MGS4 and GoW2, GTA is the most anticipated game of the year due to its cross platform release. I commend all you who will brave the elements tonight; the NYC area is douched with rain right now.

The one thing that I am little curious about, not bi-curious, is if and how people will dress up. There is always some dude in an outfit or jersey at these things. Anyone who dresses like Niko might be mistaken for a street vendor peddling hot dogs. Either way, good luck and godspeed. Bonus points if anyone sends pictures of people dressed up they see. Double bonus if they are hookers.

Trivia: What game am I?

Trivia
Ok this is a new segment to Loot Ninja where we will give you some hints or clues about a particular game, console or series and then you need to guess, which one we or what we are talking about. For now it will be for pure bragging rights but if people start to enjoy the segment we could even make it into a few contests over time.

So here is the pilot version of: What game am I?

On ::Edit::September January 16, 2007 I was launched as the first ever expansion pack to my full title. Over 5,000 stores around the world opened for my midnight launch and in the first 24 hours I sold an astounding 2.4 million copies making me the fastest selling PC game ever in Europe and North America.

Let us know your guess and if you like the segment. Remember bragging rights are on the line.

More Halo 3 Midnight Launch - NYC

Master ChiefSo of course with all the Halo 3 related news the good old big apple would not be outdone so they had a huge event at Best Buy for the Midnight Launch of Halo 3, complete with guys dressed up as marines riding around on quad bikes. The crowd was ridiculous as they awaited the arrival of Halo 3 as if the New Year were being rung in. There was even a pretty convincing looking Master Chief walking around, I wonder how much that would cost for Halloween? All and all a huge success in NYC.

Halo 3 - The Midnight Launch

Halo 3 Legendary

Just got back from my local Gamestop with a healthy copy of Halo 3 Legendary Edition. I was on the fence about picking the up Big Daddy Edition, but after seeing the Spartan helmet, I had to have one. Yeah, you can’t wear it. But DAMN is this thing cool! The packaging for the Legendary Edition is really nice as well.

There were roughly 150-200 people at my small Gamestop, which is a big number. There was a lot of sprinting out to cars once people got their hands on the game, and I’m sure the Xbox Live servers are getting a workout right now. All in all, it went down pretty well. I just wish some of the food court places in the mall were open. They would have made a killing.

There was one kid there handing out business cards with his name, AIM screen name, and XBL Gamertag on there. Lots of people took them, lots of people laughed at him. Odds are he’s going to get quite a few messages with someone’s icky bits all over it. I saw at least 20 Halo themed shirts. No one dressed as Master Chief. I guess no one wanted that free copy of Halo 3 I was offering. Oh well, more for me :)

I’m taking my ass to bed, since I’m pretty sick and should have been sleeping instead of grabbing the game.

Halo Midnight Launch Coverage

Halo 3 Legendary

So I decided to bite the bullet and hit up Gamestop at midnight tonight to grab my copy of Halo 3. It’s not so much I want to play all night and I want to see what kind of mayhem goes down.

So if anyone is in the Saratoga Springs, NY area and wants to meet up at the Wilton Mall Gamestop, let me know. I’ll be getting there shortly after 9pm to pay for my copy, then I’m going to grab some food and chill until the game is released at midnight.

Here’s to hoping to see someone dressed as Major Chief. If you’re dressed that way, come see me and I will personally pay for your copy of Halo 3 (unless it’s Legendary Edition, then I’ll pay for the cost of the LE version). I’ll be the guy in the Loot Ninja hat :)
