I was very vocal in dismissing that this could ever happen. So much, that I wrote a well received editorial stating the impossibilty of such actions. As it may turn out, the impossible has been upgraded to possible. Coming from the TGS08, a source inside Kojima’s studio is saying they are actively pursuing a Xbox 360 launch date. This could be bullshit, but many trusted sites are all confirming the same thing. This would be a huge blow to the PS3. It is the superior machine but when its flagship title will go cross platform, well, whats the point of buying it outside of the Bluray drive? FFXIII made the leap so MGS4 going to MS is not as unlikely as previously assumed.
Many of us never thought that FFXII would make its way to the Xbox 360. Have that being said, people need to stop acting like the world is coming to an end. MGS4 stands very little chance of being ported to MS. Sony has been adamant that the game is and will stay exclusive. The game designer, Hideo Kojima has insisted it will never happen. If he does, his credibility will suffer. Furthermore, what about all the people who bought the PS3 just to play this game? They are going to be insanely pissed.
Games like Mass Effect and Bioshock were awesome games, but were never viewed as console movers let alone a flagship title of the Xbox 360. They are also made by studios that have a rapport with both companies. Since when did Kojima do much of anything for MS? Halo is owned by MS, so that debate will never start, thank God.
It’s okay to have exclusives. That’s why I spent the money on both systems. Sony gets Metal Gear; its sort of their thing. Why would the franchise, which has gone out on the highest of all highs, sully their name by “going to the dark side”? They won’t. Despite the many “inside tips” and “trusted industry sources”, this is one of those fanboy fantasies that just won’t come true.
Some say this was taken out of context, but he said what he said.
“Games aren’t movies and aren’t consumed in a single sitting” explains Bleszinski, “Metal Gear Solid is our example of the game we’re not doing. Passive entertainment is on its way out.”
I would not expect extended cutscenes and active camo in Gears 2. We all knew this already, so why did he take a shot or sorts at what some consider the greatest game of this generation? Some people like run and gun and some like crawl and gun. I, personally just like really fun games. Gears 2 has to be a killer, and I mean, killer app because with GTA IV and MGS4, he could be looking at a bronze medal for Game of the Year at best.
So with any luck you’ve all been able to play a bit of MGS4. And those of you who have played more than a couple of hours have witnessed the amazingly detailed (and lengthy) cutscenes that make up most of the storytelling. As I played through the first few hours I couldn’t help but wonder (as I’m sure most of you have) if I’ve payed for a game – or a really expensive movie with interactive moments. I hope it’s the former because sixty bucks is a lot for a movie – and games for that matter. It’s not a new thing really – Japanese RPGs have been doing it for years. I’m sure many of you fondly remember the cutscenes in Square Enix’s mega-hit Final Fantasy VII (my buddy Stevie B. would happily tell you all about them if you aren’t up to speed – flailing arm movements and all). But where is the whole thing going? How many franchises will follow the example set by games such as MGS4? And should they? Hit the jump for more »
People seem to have forgotten about the upcoming title with GTA taking all of the headlines, so here is a little reminder from Konami to let you how badass MGS was and what to expect this June.
Slowly but surely the plot of MGS4 is being revealed. It sucks ass I don’t speak Japanese. Anyway, maybe with the moving pictures you can decipher what the shit is going on. This is like that Chris Farley skit where he ends up on a Japanese game show and cannot speak a word of the language only to get to the bonus round, lose, and have his nutsac hooked up to a car battery.
There were rumors flying all over the place that MGS4, the epic conclusion that is supposed to make the PS3 the greatest console ever made is a 9 hr game. This alone would have caused mass hysteria and probably much angry masturbation. It turns out the report from BBFC, which do final checks on games and apparently passes or fails them. Their report claimed that MGS4 had a 9 hr run time(545m, 7s).
Needless to say, people lost their fucking minds. It turns out, that the 9 hrs was just the amount of game they received, not the entire title. Here is the forum post were it was all finally explained by one frantic gamer. You can also view the “run times” for MGS2 and 3. Check these out. They said MGS2 had a run time of 8 mins. Yeah, exactly. People went apeshit over a misunderstood reporting system. Settle down folks, the game is going to blow you all away.
Showing off the box art is a friendly reminder that the game’s release date is drawing nearer. This is what is currently listed on Amazon. This appears to be the final version, though we wouldn’t be surprised if it changes a little in the next few months.
Konami has been at it a full 20 years for Metal Gear. Sort of hard to believe. Its also hard to believe that MGS4: Guns of the Patriots is only a few months away. Gamers everywhere are counting the days.
Not only is Japan getting a much cooler MGS4 collector’s edition, they are also getting the first version of a differently colored PS3. The new “Steel” color will debut in June when MGS4 hit the shelves in a special bundle. There has been nothing said about a North American or UK launch, but we can only hope that this is not Japan only. Expect some pictures of this as soon as we get them.
