Metal Gear Online – Bad for Multiple Users

MGS4 SS

Do you have more than one person using your PS3? Do you each have your own PSN name and account on the system? You might be a bit upset to hear that Konami is exploiting these users by charging you to create multiple characters for Metal Gear Online.

You get one free character per PS3 and can purchase an additional 3 characters for $6.99. That’s a bit much, in my opinion. Why even have this limit? No other game does anything like this either offline or online. If you have your own system profile and your own PSN name, that should be enough. There should be no penalty to having multiple users of a PS3 in the same house. That’s essentially what this is, a penalty for those people.

So don’t waste your time with the ridiculous Konami ID creation for a second user. If you aren’t ready to shell out even more money than you just spent on the game, you’re stuck with one online character for everyone in your house to use. Bad move, Konami. Bad move.

[Update] For anyone disagreeing that you can have multiple characters per system, check out screenshots stating you can’t here. I also created a new PS3 user account and PSN name as well as a new Konami ID to test this.

Rumor: Metal Gear Solid Coming to XBLA

Metal Gear Solid 1 Cover

Start the rumor machines. All across the internets today, people are claiming that they have sources that indicate Metal Gear Solid, the first adventure of Solid Snake(excluding his NES days) is coming to XBLA. There are many reasons why this is bullshit. Here are some that may make it happen. First, the 350mb ceiling doesn’t apply. You can download Ninja Gaiden Black and thats close to 5 gb. Second, MS made MGS for Windows. Third, its already out on the PSN store in Japan.  Shenanigans or authentic?

If you don’t know enough about Solid Snake yet, I don’t know what to tell you. Hopefully this gets you excited for his debut on the PS3 next week.

Has Sony Lost Sales by Not Having an 80GB Console on the Market?

MGS4 Bundle

Over the past five to six months, gamers looking to buy a PS3 haven’t had a choice of which SKU to pick up, as the 80GB MotorStorm bundle has been out of stock at almost every retailer here in the US. Sony has only now officially discontinued that bundle. In the meantime, new PS3 gamers have been forced to buy the 40GB SKU or wait patiently until early June for the release of the Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle.

I know quite a few people who have been waiting since early February to buy a PS3, simply because they care about backwards compatibility with PS2 titles. Gamers with large PS2 games libraries they still play aren’t too keen to having multiple consoles hooked up when one could do the job. With the 40GB console lacking any type of PS2 capabilities, these potential customers have had two choices: leave the PS2 hooked up or wait a few months. Most that I know have been waiting.
