MGS4 May Still Get Trophies, But Do You Even Care?

Metal Gear Solid 4 Screen

Ever since Sony introduced Trophies on the PS3, gamers have been begging Konami to patch Metal Gear Solid 4 to include Trophies. They’ve been pretty hush on the subject… until now. In the latest Kojima Productions podcast, Sean Eyestone dropped some wisdom.

I just wanna tell everybody out there right now that your voices are being heard and that we’re not ignoring you. We hear everything that you are saying. It’s just that we can’t say anything just yet.

So, yeah, that’s a big “no comment”. Metal Gear Solid released over a year ago (June 12, 2008 to be exact). At this point, do you really see yourself going back and playing the game again? Sure, it’s an amazing single player experience and I’ve played through it twice, but I can’t see myself playing again just to boost my Trophy level. I know there are Trophy Whores and Achievement Whores out there, but for everyone else, do you even care anymore? Will you go back to Metal Gear Solid 4 if Konami adds Trophies?

Hideo Kojima Announcement Imminent, Disappointment Probable

Metal Gear Solid 4 Screenshot

The man behind Metal Gear, Hideo Kojima is apparently very ready to announce his latest project. Despite the amazing early sales on MGS4, the game was all the rave then fizzled away as a very lackluster multiplayer made the game almost unplayable. There are speculations on what the announcement might be, but many gamers will want to continue the saga of Solid Snake. The probability of MGS5 being announced is almost impossible which will lead to some disappointment. Most gamers only know him from his work in that series and though I fully believe he will make a stellar game, it is akin to Bungie announcing something not Halo-centric. People turn their head, but shrug and walk away.

Metal Gear Solid Touch – Debut Trailer

Remember all the clamoring when everyone thought the new MGS4 game was going to be for the 360? Man, were we way off. This is the “new” game and it looks, well, like a flash game. It runs the story of MGS4 albeit very differently. Not all that excited for this one right now as it will have a $10 price tag on it most likely.

Konami Trying to Save MGO with Bonus Material for New Users

Anyone who has not played Metal Gear Online yet, this is for you. The rest of us don’t get shit. Anyone who buys the game or already has MGS4 and has not played the MGO part yet can get free in game credits and special in game content by playing before February 16th. Here are the details:

The exclusive Welcome Rookie Campaign is only open to players who have not previously installed and registered the retail version of Metal Gear Online on their PLAYSTATION 3 entertainment system. Some of the game items that can be purchased from the MGO shop are only available to those who have purchased the Metal Gear Online Expansion Packs. For more information please visit: http://www.konami.jp/metal/mgo/.

Fans who have never played Metal Gear Online have the opportunity to download a free version now thru January 29th. The free demo, along with a free Metal Gear Solid 4 demo, are available on the PlayStation Network.

The Welcome Rookie Campaign will be available to new registered members from December 24, 2008 thru Feb 16th, 2009. Prize distribution will occur after February 17th. The Metal Gear Online free demo service can be downloaded now thru January 29th on the PlayStation Network.

Since the MGO portion is repetitive, boring, usually broken, and costs money when you have to buy the expansion packs, it is no wonder so many gamers barely play it. I like the idea of “bribing” gamers to give it a shot, but I would not count on MGO as the multiplayer game to play in the next few months as we all wait for Killzone 2.

Kojima, You Had Me at Metal Gear, and Lost Me at Online

I don’t want to piss off any Metal Gear Online fans, in fact I wanted to be one.  I mean, I really, really wanted to be one, but I’m not, I’m so not.  And having recently read about Hideo Kojima’s revelation of disappointment at the number of people playing MGO, I felt maybe it’s not just me.

There are a lot of things about the game I could nit pick to death about game play and certain elements of the game (being trapped by porn has to be one of the most annoying things in all of gaming), but to each his own and everything I hate may be something that someone else loves or I just don’t get.  But, to me, there is one painful and almost inexplicable omission to MGO.

More Weapon Unlocks for MGS4 Revealed

We previously brought you the passwords to get Altair’s costume and Type 17 pistol for Solid Snake in MGS4. Two more passwords have been revealed to help you up your arsenal.

If you type in “tshsniammr” at the Extras screen, you’ll get the Thor .45-70 large-caliber hand rifle. If you enter “pkhhnwhsjt”, you’ll get The Boss’s Patriot gun from MGS3.

Both are pretty cool guns that you most likely won’t get when you complete the game. To get the Patriot, you need to be do a speed run on Big Boss Extreme. Good luck with that. I’ll enter the code.

Get Altair’s Costume for Solid Snake Without Being Good

MGS4 Altair

Having trouble getting the Assassin badge in Metal Gear Solid 4 but desperately want Solid Snake to look like Altair? You’re in luck, as Famitsu has published a code to unlock the cool costume for you.

As long as you have the Metal Gear Mk. II, you’ll be all set. And if you don’t, you’re less than 20 minutes into the game. Shape up. Anyway, to unlock the Altair costume, go to the camoflauge menu and enter the code “aottrykmyn”. That’s it. Also, if you enter “jmsotsynrn” you’ll get the Type 17 pistol.

Go fire up MGS4 and give it another play through. See how much you get noticed by enemies with that costume. My guess is stealth goes out the window.

Metal Gear Online Rewards Shop Opens for Business

MGO Reward Shop Logo

Finally a glimmer of hope in the problematic world that is Metal Gear Online. The Reward Shop is now open. Finally.

This should have launched a couple weeks ago when the Gene Expansion came out, but server issues caused everything to go haywire. You can now check it out either on the web or in game (which is technically on the web anyway). Make sure you remember your Game ID and password… I don’t.

You earn Reward Points in official matches of MGO, so playing will get you some cool stuff. Somehow, I have a feeling a lot of people just don’t care.
