After watching the video for this game I’m having a hard time thinking that this is real. My first thought is that the Wii is at the end of days. It has crossed over into empty nothingness and has come back to bring Mass: We Pray with it. I have seen and heard of other small production companies releasing religious games for the PC to spread the word of the Almighty, but nothing of this caliber of weird. The previous games followed the normal formula for a video game. These depicted a playable character (animated Jesus doing battle in Jerusalem, or included Christian followers shooting lasers out of their Bible) or online Street Fighter-esque flash games where you battle other religious figures like Buddha and Ghandi. These all follow the normal recipe for video games targeted at the youth audience. I thought those were bad. Mass: We Pray takes the idea and suck of church going to a whole new level. It’s laughable. The line for this game teeters on real or fake and has me wondering if this is in fact real or not.
My good friend Sean sent over a link which I thought was very interesting and relevant. I’ve been trying to get my girlfriend to admit she is a gamer, as she frequently steals my DS away from me, but she only plays certain titles because complexity and difficulty, and lack of rewards. I’m wondering if Prince of Persia would get her hooked.
I agree with the concept of making games playable by everyone where possible. In my eyes there should be tutorials for non-gamers and tutorials for gamers. Designing a game so the difficulty ratings cater to non-gamer, gamer, and hardcore instead of easy, normal, and hard would open up titles to a wider market. If there was a non-gamer setting for COD4 I’m pretty sure my Dad would give it a go and enjoy it.
It has begun! Mortal Kombat movie reference FTW. Anyway, everyone knows that GTA IV is going to be the supposed console mover of this gaming season and by far the top selling game. Now, the choice lies within the lucky few of us who already have both console, i.e., everyone here at Loot Ninja. MS wants to make it very clear that you should buy their version and will spend enough so you don’t forget it.
“Our campaign is the same sort of scale as our Halo 3 campaign last year so you can expect to see and hear a lot about GTA IV on Xbox 360 over the coming weeks,” commented Stephen McGill, head of gaming for Xbox UK.
I for one am anxious to see how the marketing campaign looks. Halo 3 was exclusive, so they only needed to show how good the game was, not which console to buy the game for. I wonder if there will be some shots at Sony. We shall see.
