Here is a classic look at what video game commercials looked like back in the days of the Atari, I can remember playing this on my Apple II C in green mono-color graphics. Watching this commercial really makes you appreciate the Halo, Resistance and Gears spots that push the forefront of ads today. The sad part is that this commercial is still better than the Super Mario Brothers inspired movie that hit theaters and is it me or does Luigi look a bit heavier than normal.
Lately I have been coming across weird renditions of rap songs and oddly enough they have been entertaining me. This Japanese Mario rap is quirky and funny even though I am not sure what they are singing about. I also give them a nod because at the very end of the song there is a bunch of scantily clad Japanese girls that come on stage, well played masked Mario rappers, well played.
I am almost positive that they say Mario at least a few times, but the beat is infectuous.
From the mind of Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy, comes Seth MacFarlane’s Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy. (Quite the title huh?) This is pretty much a collection of short animated skits using some of the voices of Family, but not the characters. Watch this clip as the voice of Stewy plays Mario and lets you know how he really feels about Peach.
Quote of the day “the only help I would get was a little gold star” followed by the star song.
Looks like Mario is getting into the swing of Major League Baseball by attending the September 5th game at Safeco Field between the Seattle Mariners and the new York Yankees. Nintendo is planning on setting up interactive kiosks throughout the park where fans can play Mario Super Sluggers between innings. Also to spice things up the gang over at Nintendo will be giving away a prize package every inning, which includes a Wii and a copy of the game. Not a bad way to watch a baseball game and get a shot at winning a console, more ballparks should try similar things to get fans interested. So if your in the area drop on by Safeco Field and check it out.
When : September 5th
Time : 7:10 PM
Where: Safeco Field 1250 1st Ave S. Seattle WA 98134
So when you take your car out for a spin does your wife/parents/friends constantly nag you about how you drive? Well it could be worse you could get nagged even while you play video games! Check out this hilarious clip, the guy in the background is freaking out telling his buddy what to do while playing a round of Mario Kart Wii and then when asked if he wanted to play says no thanks. There are some rather classic lines, like when he calls Peach something that rhymes with runt.
I always new Mario had a darker side to him, here we see him go Rambo on the Mushroom Kingdom and show them what happens to people who kidnap his princess. Best part of this video is when he rips the wings off the koopa troopa and tosses him in the shred o’ matic. Setting this video to Andrew W. K.’s ‘Get Ready to Die’ is especially a nice touch.
So a lot of gamers have nothing better to do with their time than mod their consoles and this guy is no different. He took his Wii and made it pretty ridiculous, it has lights a miniaturized Mario and even sound effects. The main question is after throwing all of these lights and junk on it, can it still play games? Has the Wii become such a gimmick that the only joy we find in it is tricking it out like a 1995 Honda Accord?
Here is a nice look at the different iteration of Mario Kart on the different consoles over the years, a lot of the same mechanics and gameplay is still in effect, but you can see the evolution in the graphics. Even though the SNES version is the most inferior when it comes to graphics it was probably my favorite, with my least favorite game being Double Dash for the Gamecube.
Looks like Nintendo is trying to hype up Mario Kart by sponsoring some tournaments via the Mario Kart Channel. Interesting that the tournaments will have specific rules like having to use certain controls schemes, Matt must be thrilled to hear that the only way he can compete is with his favorite peripheral… the Wii Wheel! Anyone interested in participating let us know.
Bonus points: Check out the picture and name that driver?
Here is the official word:

Target: Terror for the Wii looks terrible. After watching this all I can say is, why? Why would you name it this and make such a bad looking and playing game? This looks so un-inspired, it is a horrible knockoff of Lethal Enforcers, an old shooter from the SNES days. The on screen shootings look horrible and the voice acting is even worse, this screams bargain bin $9.99 game, is this what the Wii is being reduced to if the game does not have Mario in it?
