Since users can’t create their own PS3 mods yet for Unreal Tournament 3, Epic decided to cook up a few themselves. Right now, there’s some legal issues involved with adding some code to the Unreal Editor to allow cooking of PS3 mods. As soon as that’s worked out, the update for the Unreal Editor will be released. It’s slightly annoying this all wasn’t worked out before the game was released.
Anyway, Mark Rein posted a couple links to some of the best mods so far for UT3 cooked up for the PS3. Extract them one at a time onto a USB key or however else you want to get them to your PS3. You can’t do multiple ones at a time, unfortunately. They all look pretty cool, and free maps is always a great thing. So check them out and see what you might be able to come up with yourself.
The first map pack for Halo 3 was made available and they are a nice addition to the current maps. The good thing that Bungie did here was make maps that were both diverse in design as well as game play. I’ll tell you a little about each map and my general feelings on it.
Standoff
This a decent map that is basically symmetrical. There are two bases that have retractable shields and a cool flame hallway that can be turned on. The map is also vehicle friendly. There are warthogs on the map and are best used in the capture the flag and team slayer modes. I found that 8 players is a good size but 14 and up makes the map way too crowded with people running in every direction. You will not find any sniper rifles and only a few battle rifles along with a single spartan laser and rocket launcher. This is a fun map especially in games that require team strategy.
If you are a fan of the groundbreaking machinima series, Red vs Blue, you will definitely enjoy this latest installment. If you are a Halo fan and have no idea what I am talking about, well, I wouldn’t really call you a Halo fan now would I? These guys are funny as hell. The series is supposed to be now defunct, but I’m sure they have some more things to come.
In case anyone is still playing Resistance: Fall of Man on the PS3, two new maps are coming soon. No pricing has been set, but here’s what you can expect from the new maps:
In the Bracknell map, the struggle against the Chimera comes to the cavernous spaces of an old railway system – now a Chimeran node. Expect intense close-quarters fighting as you explore three storeys of dimly lit spawning rooms and disused train carriages.
The Axbridge map, meanwhile, consists of two resistance bases spanning a valley strewn with rocks and Chimeran structures. Find yourself a secret perch among the cliffs on either side or brave the walled ‘theatre of combat’ on the valley floor, and prepare for battle: the enemy will show no mercy.
Both sound pretty cool. I would hope they’ll be released for free at this point, but I somehow doubt it.
Just in case you missed the special Halloween Infection maps that Bungie made available, you are not out of luck. They have made the maps ready for download. If they are in your recent maps played, then you can get them from there. Since that probably is not the case because like me, you have played plenty since, here is the way to get them. In case they are in your recent maps, follow these instructions:
Just a friendly reminder that you can now download the Hidden Fronts map pack for Gears of War on the Xbox 360 for free. That’s right, FREE. Previously costing 800 MS Points, the now free pack consists of four maps.
Bullet Marsh: In this Kryll-infested swamp, an old generator still powers the area lights. A few stray bullets could easily knock out the generator, leaving combatants to fend for themselves against the Kryll.
Garden: This overgrown and crumbling conservatory still has a working fertilization and pesticide system. This system can pose a serious hazard to anyone who ventures into the greenhouse without first venting the air.
Process: Teams must fight for control of this subterranean Imulsion processing plant, still active despite the cessation of the Pendulum wars.
Subway: Timgad’s Central Subway station used to serve as a central hub for commuters. Now the tunnels are crawling with Locust.
These maps are needed for the extra 250 achievement points in the game. So now you don’t have to pay for that extra gamerscore. I grabbed them yesterday, but I’m too engrossed by BioShock to take the game out of the tray.

In case you didn’t want to drop the 800 MS Points for the GRAW2 Throwback Pack that was released this past May, you can now download it for free for the Xbox 360.
The pack includes 7 remastered maps from the original Ghost Recon and the first GRAW.
Too little, too late I think. Most people have moved on from GRAW2 on the Xbox 360 and started playing other games. I think Ubisoft almost had to do this on 360 since the PS3 version will include these maps for free.
We previously told you about all the updates to Lost Planet that would bring some free maps to the Xbox 360. That time is now here.
Map Pack 3, which was previously 400 MS Points, is now available for the cool price of nothing. So if you still have the desire to play Lost Planet, fire up your 360 and grab these free maps, which include “Lost Technology,” “Ruins,” and “Ice Drop”.
I’m always a fan of free, and it’s not that often we get free stuff as downloads these days.
Here’s an interview with the development team on Resistance: Fall of Man about the new Map Pack that is supposedly coming out in May. I’m guessing it’s going to be pushed back until June, since we haven’t heard anything yet.
The maps looks really cool, but $7.99 for 2 maps? Someone needs to stop taking a cue from Microsoft and some of the crap on the Xbox Live Marketplace.
