According to the BBC, a 43 year old woman playing Maplestory was divorced in-game by her in-game husband. So, she got his username and password and then made his character commit virtual suicide.
“I was suddenly divorced, without a word of warning. That made me so angry,”
This one definitely gets filed under “Visits from the Fucked Up Fairy”. Pretty funny for revenge tactics, but also quite worrisome and extreme. Actually, it’s not worrying as much as it is disturbing. She is 43 years old and threw a fit over not having a game go her way so she felt the need to take action. This is an excellent example of people lacking the capability to separate reality from gaming. Real from Virtual. Good from Bad. Cool from Uncool.

Not content with drinking tons of beer in the real world, MapleStory is recreating the German festival in their online realm.
To take part in the event – which is open to everyone and can be participated in once a day for the duration of the promotion – players must deliver a hidden sample of ‘malt’ to MapleStory Europe’s ever present event-NPC Charles. Doing so rewards them with entry to an exciting new beer tent map, where they can enjoy a traditional, hearty German atmosphere of ale, sausages and lederhosen. By completing special objectives within the beer tent, such as fighting off a horde of red-faced, staggering monsters, players can win themselves special Oktoberfest themed items such a German sausage-shaped hat and power boosting mugs of (non-alcoholic!) beer. Players are also encouraged to collect empty beer glasses dropped by monsters, which in turn can be exchanged for special stat-enhancing food items.
Sounds like fun to me. MapleStory has added new features frequently over it’s life span, which definitely adds to the gameplay.

Dean D. Cho, Development Manager of MapleStory Europe at NEXON, gives us a look behind the scenes of this amazing new free to play MMORPG in the first of a series of insider articles.
Welcome to the amazing world of MapleStory Europe, the fantastic new massively multiplayer online RPG from NEXON Group!
Since we first launched in South Korea in April 2003, MapleStory has become one of the most successful online RPG’s of all time, boasting over 67million registered players from across Asia and the US, and it’s not hard to see why. With its compelling gameplay and incredible visuals, once you step into MapleStory’s magical landscape of action and adventure it’s almost impossible to step back out again!
Bringing a new dimension of play to MMORPGs
What makes MapleStory immediately special is its unique, two-dimensional viewpoint. The reason behind this is twofold. Firstly, it allows for a simple control system familiar to anybody who’s played the classic two-dimensional platform games of old. Characters can run, jump, climb ladders, shimmy down ropes and attack, all of which makes for quick, arcade-style play, not to mention introducing a whole new element of ‘jumping’ quests to the MMORPG genre.
