Anyone Else Call Shenanigans on Brett Favre Making the Cover of Madden?

Madden 09

Is it just me or does naming a retired player, Brett Favre, to the cover of your franchise game title a bit odd? Why change up the formula after all these years of getting current athletes on your cover? Is it perhaps because of the long standing Madden curse? Perhaps players who were asked to be on the cover told EA and Madden they would rather eat some razor blades than be on their cover?

I have to say that the thought has crossed my mind several times. Perhaps they are giving the Madden curse a year off and will try and kill the player to grace the cover for 2010. In any event, Madden is looking different now, not only on the cover but in gameplay and announcing. Maybe this year will have enough to make it a must buy?

Madden 09
Our condolences to Brett Favre, no good can come of this announcement seeing the great running record of the Madden curse, but at least he is ready for retirement. Let’s see if the cover athlete trend continues with Madden, will we get a report of Brett Favre falling down the stairs and breaking his neck this year?

Here is the official word form EA:

John Madden ImageLooks like the Tennessee Titans are going to be in for some bad luck this year. Vince Young will be gracing the cover of the 2008 installment of Madden. The second year quarterback will try to prove he can break the streak of injury filled seasons for Madden athletes.

The Nashville City Paper reported today:

An official announcement is expected on Tuesday and Young will appear on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” as part of the kickoff promotion for the newest version the popular NFL video game that is endorsed by NFL Hall of Fame coach and analyst John Madden.

The Madden Curse has plagued cover boys for years now. Expect Vince Young to do down sometime early in the season, cause that’s how it goes.
