Did anyone not see this coming? Bioware and LucasArts yesterday officially announced Star Wars: The Old Republic, a new MMO set it in the Star Wars universe. Think of it as a KOTOR MMO, something we’ve all been clamoring to get our grubby little hands on for quite a while.
In Star Wars: The Old Republic, players will explore an age thousands of years before the rise of Darth Vader when war between the Old Republic and the Sith Empire divides the galaxy. Players can choose to play as Jedi, Sith, or a variety of other classic Star Wars roles, defining their personal story and determining their path down the light or dark side of the Force. Along the way, players will befriend courageous companions who will fight at their side or possibly betray them, based on the players’ actions. Players can also choose to team up with friends to battle enemies and overcome incredible challenges using dynamic Star Wars combat.
Sounds like a plan to me. Hopefully the system requirements won’t be outrageous. I don’t feel like buying another gaming rig for this one in a year or so.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is a solid action game that takes place in the Star Wars universe and uses cameos from characters from that lore very well. The cut scene visuals are fantastic and are worth a gander in and of themselves. Couple that with great sound and you have a recipe for success for any Star Wars fan. The game does come with its share of issues as well, but for the most part, the game is a solid experience centered around Darth Vader’s Apprentice, Starkiller.
The sound in the game is great and throwing a Wookie off a cliff never sounded so good. The Force abilities are done very well and provide some open-ended gameplay, giving you options to dispense your foes in a series of ways, ranging from impaling with a light saber to Force Chokes off a gorge. The Force Unleashed gives you many customization options as well, such as your clothing, light saber, and even fighting skills.

LucasArts is pretty damn happy right now. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide within it’s first week of release.
“The record-setting sales of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed shows the undiminished power of Star Wars and its popularity across all media types, including video games,” said Darrell Rodriguez, president of LucasArts. “We’re blown away by the response to the game.”
These sales make The Force Unleashed the fastest selling Star Wars game of all time. Pretty damn good. The game isn’t bad, but it’s not terrific either. We’ll have a full review soon.

The latest game from LucasArts, Fracture, is getting a demo today on both the Xbox 360 and PS3. The Xbox version is up on live now and the PS3 version will be going up with todays Thursday update, which is typical for the Sony folks. This is a definite download for me since I am interested in the game’s premise where you can alter the elevations of the ground around you to create cover or reach certain areas but I do have my doubts on how the game will play as a result.
Fracture will hit store shelves officially on October 7, but until then go grab the demo and start ripping the ground up.

Oh shit yeah! My life as a Sith Apprentice is about to begin. LucasArts will be releasing a demo for The Force Unleashed this Thursday on both the Xbox 360 an PS3.
According to Marketing Manager at LucasArts, Matt Shell, the demo will be “a special version of the Tie Fighter Construction Facility, where players will have access to extra force powers and a “super secret” ending to the level not found in the final version of the game.”
Sounds good to me. Can’t wait to rock this out on Thursday.

LucasArts has made it very public and very clear that they want to get this game to as many people as possible and the best way to do so is to release a multiplatform demo. Fans of the Trilogy,(there is only one Return and it ain’t of the fucking king) will buy this game blindly. The casual gamer which makes up most of the genre will need to play this game to believe it. Here is what LucasArts had to say:
There are people who are excited about it, who are going to play it right away, whether they play it (the demo) or not. But I think something that is wonderful is that the gameplay itself is so engaging, people who aren’t Star Wars fans or who aren’t even hardcore gamers, once they get their hands on some of the gameplay and how it works, are really going to be won over by it.
I, for one, am beyond excited for this. There are people at my job who will be buying consoles just for this. I work in scientific research people. Madden is foreign around here. Force lightning is what these guys want. Its even my wallpaper right now. We will give a big heads up when the demo’s date is announced.
