Both Kotaku and LucasArts’ Twitter feed have some rather exciting news for fans of Star Wars – the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight games are coming to Steam and Direct2Drive sometime next week. I’ve been on a bit of a Star Wars kick as of late, and seeing these games released digitally warms my midichlorians.
All four games feature Chuck Norris-esque Kyle Katarn, a defected Imperial soldier who happens to be one of the guys who stole the original Death Star’s plans. The first game, Dark Forces, is more or less a DOOM clone, while the next three games were the first Star Wars games to actually make the player feel like a motherfuckin’ Jedi. Dark Forces’ sequel, Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight, was the first game to allow multiplayer Jedi combat and still has a somewhat active multiplayer modding community today. Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast was released on both PC and console at the time, and was followed up by Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, released on both platforms as well.
Hopefully LucasArts doesn’t put this at too high of a price point, but I found the price for the digital release of Knights of the Old Republic to be fair, so we’ll see.

George Lucas is a man that loves to shove his member down your throat and get that money lodged deep inside your pockets. He’s done it countless times with the Star Wars and Indiana Jones series. He’s pushed these classic series almost into the “sellout” genre offering Star Wars Burger King toys and even Trivial Pursuit games (which I own). This doesn’t even get into the Indiana Jones Krystal Skull movie, and I won’t even go there. Point is, he hasn’t created an original game in quite some time
Hoping to dispel this rumor is LucasArts’ announcement to release an original game with an original story? Holy crap! This hasn’t happened since Fracture for the Xbox 360 and PS3, and well, let’s just forget about that game and go even deeper into the catalog and mention Gladius or Thrillville. These other games not ringing any bells? That’s right, they shouldn’t, because LucasArts has had you on the Indiana Jones and Stormtrooper teet for way too long.
Lucidity follows the actions of a young girl named Sophie, being tasked to find her way across numerous levels of this all new 2D puzzler/platformer for the Xbox Live Arcade. The twist is, you won’t be controlling Sophie, you’ll be in charge of manipulating the levels so she can make her way through. Sophie will just be walking, walking towards anything on the right side of the level. Place a huge penis there shooting spikes? Or a Sarlacc monster? She’ll walk to it? Even place a Pedo bear and a white windowless party van? Sophie will walk there. You will be tasked with placing objects in her relentless trek to make her jump (placing a trampoline), climb up the edge of a walkway (in the form of a slingshot looking contraption), and placing stair pieces in real time for Sophie to interact with so Sophie does not fall to her doom. The game looks different than anything LucasArts has ever done, and I guess that’s the point? I’m sick of tasting that cheap plastic Stormtrooper teet.
Look for Lucidity to hit XBLA around the end of the month.

Watch out Luke! Don’t get too close to that Sarlacc sand penis!
Not just any Star Wars saga, the Super Star Wars saga! Nintendo has just announced that the Super Star Wars series is headed to the Wii Virtual Console this week beginning with the first Super Star Wars game from the SNES era. I reported previously about the unknown future of the X-wing vs. TIE Fighter series in this post, but is this the release of past Star Wars content president of LucasArts Darrel Rodriguez alluded to?
I really don’t know? And I really don’t care, any and all Star Wars additions to my gaming catalog are good ones (minus that N64 abortion of a game called Battle for Naboo). I skipped the SNES era for some strange reason, so the Super Star Wars series wasn’t even on my radar at the time. All I know is, I missed out on playing through the original movie trilogy, battling Mos Eisley cantina patrons, as well as slicing off huge sand penises (pictured above) with my lightsaber.

MUST. GET. POWER CONVERTERS!
LucasArts has been on a tear lately revamping and revitalizing its older game properties. With the recent release of The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition to The Dig, the minions under George Lucas are hard at work bringing back older franchises. With that being said, something just might be on the horizon for the famous dogfighting adventure series set in the Star Wars universe.
G4’s Patrick Klepek recently sat down with LucasArts president Darrel Rodriguez and asked about the future of the X-Wing, TIE Fighter, and the X-wing vs. TIE Fighter series.
“We don’t have any announcements now, but stay tuned,” Rodriguez said. “We will soon…..”
I’m hoping for a full-on gaming title for this generation, but at this point, I really don’t care! I just want to strap myself in to the Incom Corp. T-65 X-wing starfighter and take on a few pesky womprats in training mode. Is that too much to ask without having to break out my 100MHz Packard Bell and suction cup equipped joystick to watch porn take on Beggar’s Canyon? Yes, I know! With that last comment you all probably know now that I am a huge Star Wars nerd. HUGE!
Here’s hoping that we will hear an announcement soon about this upcoming title. Then and only then I will be able to safely take my Ewok sleepy shorts out of their cubby and wear them with pride!

I love adventure games, almost as much as Scuba loves ZJ’s, if it is possible to love something that much. The first time one of my friends came over to my house and had a copy of Maniac Mansion, my obsession began. LucasArts brought such classics as Indiana Jones & the Fate of Atlantis, Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, and Day of the Tentacle to my computer screen, while Sierra occupied days of my life with Kings Quest, Police Quest, and Rise of the Dragon. Many consider Myst as one of the last hoo-rah’s of the Adventure gaming fad.
Well now it’s back baby! With two of the best, The Secret of Monkey Island and Beneath a Steel Sky just to kick it off. Telltale kept the heart beating strong with Sam & Max and Strong Bad episodic adventures but the true resurrection has begun…. on the iPhone.

Did anyone not see this coming? Bioware and LucasArts yesterday officially announced Star Wars: The Old Republic, a new MMO set it in the Star Wars universe. Think of it as a KOTOR MMO, something we’ve all been clamoring to get our grubby little hands on for quite a while.
In Star Wars: The Old Republic, players will explore an age thousands of years before the rise of Darth Vader when war between the Old Republic and the Sith Empire divides the galaxy. Players can choose to play as Jedi, Sith, or a variety of other classic Star Wars roles, defining their personal story and determining their path down the light or dark side of the Force. Along the way, players will befriend courageous companions who will fight at their side or possibly betray them, based on the players’ actions. Players can also choose to team up with friends to battle enemies and overcome incredible challenges using dynamic Star Wars combat.
Sounds like a plan to me. Hopefully the system requirements won’t be outrageous. I don’t feel like buying another gaming rig for this one in a year or so.

LucasArts is pretty damn happy right now. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide within it’s first week of release.
“The record-setting sales of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed shows the undiminished power of Star Wars and its popularity across all media types, including video games,” said Darrell Rodriguez, president of LucasArts. “We’re blown away by the response to the game.”
These sales make The Force Unleashed the fastest selling Star Wars game of all time. Pretty damn good. The game isn’t bad, but it’s not terrific either. We’ll have a full review soon.

Oh shit yeah! My life as a Sith Apprentice is about to begin. LucasArts will be releasing a demo for The Force Unleashed this Thursday on both the Xbox 360 an PS3.
According to Marketing Manager at LucasArts, Matt Shell, the demo will be “a special version of the Tie Fighter Construction Facility, where players will have access to extra force powers and a “super secret” ending to the level not found in the final version of the game.”
Sounds good to me. Can’t wait to rock this out on Thursday.

LucasArts has made it very public and very clear that they want to get this game to as many people as possible and the best way to do so is to release a multiplatform demo. Fans of the Trilogy,(there is only one Return and it ain’t of the fucking king) will buy this game blindly. The casual gamer which makes up most of the genre will need to play this game to believe it. Here is what LucasArts had to say:
There are people who are excited about it, who are going to play it right away, whether they play it (the demo) or not. But I think something that is wonderful is that the gameplay itself is so engaging, people who aren’t Star Wars fans or who aren’t even hardcore gamers, once they get their hands on some of the gameplay and how it works, are really going to be won over by it.
I, for one, am beyond excited for this. There are people at my job who will be buying consoles just for this. I work in scientific research people. Madden is foreign around here. Force lightning is what these guys want. Its even my wallpaper right now. We will give a big heads up when the demo’s date is announced.
