The Lips Open Mic Contest is being presented by AT&T for a chance to have your original song featured as a free download in the game.
The contest requires participants to compose their own original song and submit a video of the performance to be judged on. Judges will narrow down the competition to the five best songs and the finalist’s videos will be posted on Xbox Live and Zune.net on April 10th where the general public will vote to decide the winner.
The winner will receive a package containing a trip to L.A. with tickets to the Warped tour, a flat screen T.V., a Xbox 360 console, a 120 GB Zune and of course your song featured as a free download on Lips. The runners-up will receive an Xbox 360, a Zune and other unnamed prizes.
The contest starts today and ends March 13th, 2009. It is only open to U.S. residents 18 years of age or older. Submit videos to www.zune.net/attlipscontest. AT&T users get a double vote by texting to 991, they are the official sponsor after all.
I kind of wish I had at least some ability to sing now. Give it a shot, you only risk soul crushing embarrassment and we all know that doesn’t hurt.

Are you having troubles deciding whether to purchase Rock Band 2 or Guitar Hero: World Tour? Maybe this will help you in your decision making process. Proud owners of the Lips microphones will soon be able to use them while playing Rock Band 2, says Harmonix and MTV.
“Microsoft and MTV Games are working together to ensure that consumers will be able to use the wireless mics from ‘Lips’ with ‘Rock Band 2’ after launch,” said the companies in an e-mailed statement. “More details on timing to come. Harmonix and MTV Games strive for all third-party controllers to work with the ‘Rock Band’ games, fitting with Harmonix’ open-platform philosophy for controllers.”
It is always welcoming news for companies to support third party peripherals. Hopefully the update will come in the next few weeks and not months from now. Will this news help sway any of you Lips owners into purchasing Rock Band over Guitar Hero?

If you have at least some vocal ability, much unlike me, you might be excited for this news. Microsoft has released some details regarding the pricing of the Lips bundle and a song list.
The bundle will include two wireless microphones and of course the game for $69.99. Pretty much what we expected for a price range here as you are basically paying $10.00 for two wireless microphones, which is not too shabby. The song list consists of 40 extremely varying tunes plus later DLC to be announced. The one feature that seems to be of great importance is the freestyle mode. Here you will be able to import your own DRM free music from any MP3 player or through the Xbox 360 streaming media library. The imported songs won’t include any lyrics but who needs lyrics anyway for a singing game? Lips is set to release sometime in November.
The song list is after the jump.

Remember that game with the codename Lips that Microsoft was supposed to reveal at it’s Media Day a few months back? It seems a survey company, Intellisponse, has leaked a ton of information, including details on Microsoft’s new SingStar clone.
Lips is a music and singing game that includes 30 songs, 2 wireless interactive microphones, the ability to use and sing your own music or downloaded songs from an online service. Designed to have fun with friends, Lips scores you on your singing (pitch, rhythm, and tune) and overall performance.
Wireless mics are interactive, with lights on the shaft of the microphone that pulse to the rhythm of your voice, and motion sensors that allow you to dance, move or swing to score points.
Take songs from a CD or your ipod, and upload them into the game. The game will reduce the vocals so you can sing along and be heard, and score on whether you’re in tune. Lyrics can also be added directly into the song to sing along.
Interesting. I guess seeing the worldwide success of Sony’s karaoke games has made them want to copy the formula. I guess we’ll find out at E3.
