Coming Soon: New Faces

Loot Ninja Header

As of Monday morning, all emails went out to those that applied for positions here at Loot Ninja. We were overwhelmed at the number of responses and sadly couldn’t hire everyone. We want to thank everyone that applied!

You’ll be seeing the new writers around here soon and I’m going to let them each introduce themselves. We’ve excited to have them all here and hope you are too!

If You Applied to be a Writer, You’ll be Hearing from us Soon

Loot Ninja Alt Header

We were overwhelmed with the number of you who got in touch with us wanting to write for Loot Ninja! We had many more applications than we expected, so it’s taking us a little longer than planned to go through everything. Rest assured, we’re in the process (probably as you read this, in fact).

There are some really great writing samples in here and we’ll be getting in touch with you all over the next couple days as we finish narrowing things down.

Again, thank you all who applied. We wish we could hire you all, but that’s just not in the cards. Keep an eye on your inbox over the next couple days

One Last Chance: Loot Ninja is Looking for a Few Good Writers

Loot Ninja

If you’ve already applied, we got it. It’s been a very crazy week here, so we havent’ had a chance to look over everything. And since we’re in the giving mood for our birthday, we figured we would give you all one more chance to apply to write for Loot Ninja.

We’re looking to give a few people out there the opportunity to get your word out here at Loot Ninja. If you can write and speak somewhat normal English and have the time to put in, we’re looking for you! Most importantly, you need to be yourself. We aren’t looking for robots, so you need to have some flare (although 16 pieces isn’t mandatory).

We’re looking for a few people, so definitely apply if you’re interested. The job is volunteer, but you’ll get some cool stuff out of it (games, the chance to go to E3, GDC, and PAX, playing games before they’re released, fame and the chance at world domination).

So, if this sounds like your type of thing, drop us a line at jobs [at] loot-ninja [dot] com with the subject “I want a job at Loot Ninja”. Sorry we can’t make that a link, but we hate spam with a passion. In your email, let us know why you want to write for us, how many articles/news posts/reviews you would be able to do per week, and give us a sample post or two about something somewhat current in the gaming world. We’ll check them all out and get back to everyone. Hit us up and hopefully you can be part of the Loot Ninja Crew!

We’ve extended the application period and we’re giving everyone until SUNDAY night to get us your applications. Don’t worry if you don’t hear back from us right away this week… we’re waiting until we hear from everyone before we get in touch. Our plan is to go over everything early to middle of next week and get back to everyone that applied.

Final Reminder: Loot Ninja is Looking for a Few Good Writers

Sony Cutting 8000 Jobs, Does Not Affect PlayStation Division

Everyone is feeling the hurt with the global economy in a huge downturn. The US is officially in a recession (as if we didn’t know that already) and looking to head towards the first depression in a very very long time. Overseas, things aren’t fairing much better. Sony announced today that the company will be cutting 8000 jobs from the electronics division in an effort to cut costs by $1.1 billion next year. The job cuts are expected to be completed by March 2010.

Kazuharu Miura, an expert electronics analyst in Tokyo, doesn’t think this will be enough, however. “The entire high-tech market is being seriously hurt,” Miura said. “Japanese companies are all in trouble because of this unexpected worldwide slowdown.”

On the gaming side of things, this current round of job cuts does not affect the PlayStation division. I repeat, Sony is not cutting jobs on the PlayStation side of the business. Will they in the future? Who knows. Either way, the economy is in piss-poor shape and a rebound is nowhere in sight.

EA Loses More Money

We have more sad news on the job front just in time for the holidays, EA is bleeding money and some employees will be losing their jobs.  EA’s financial results for the quarter were not pretty, they have lost 310 million dollars, up from the 195 million dollars lost in the same quarter of last year.

The really sad part of the news is that EA needs to cut costs somewhere and of course that means cutting jobs.  They intend to cut 6 percent of their staff which equals about 600 hard working folks. EA has stated that cutting these positions, among other things, could save the company up to 50 million dollars a year.

I suppose EA could stop paying their higher-ups ridiculous amounts of money, make a few more great original games and spend less on the advertising of sub-par games, but cutting jobs is probably the best way to go.
