Game Changing Modern Warfare 2 Info Still to Come

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition

With the E3 on stage demo and the recent multiplayer press showcase. Infinity Ward has a monster on their hands with Modern Warfare 2. But what we’re seen so far only scratches the surface of what the game really has to offer. Robert Bowling, IW’s Community Manager who also goes by “fourzerotwo”, dropped some wisdom at the recent multiplayer event:

There are some huge surprises. What’s awesome is, we’ve done all the press we’ve done so far, we’ve shown Cliffhanger, we’ve shown some Favela, we’ve set the tone of what Modern Warfare 2 is, and yet there is something we haven’t talked about that, and the reason we haven’t talked about it is because once you see it you completely forget everything we’ve already talked about. It becomes this whole new game. That’s what I’m excited for.

Interesting, to say the least, what might come from Modern Warfare 2. My guess is something surrounding the single player portion of the game, most likely co-op. Infinity Ward is very tight-lipped about MW2, so when they’re ready, we’ll know. Until then, I’ll be playing ODST and waiting for November 10th.

Make sure you all get your copy of Modern Warfare 2 as soon as you can for our Xbox 360 Community Playdate on November 15th!

Modern Warfare 2 Limited Edition Xbox 360

limited-edition-mw2-console

Microsoft and Infinity Ward have revealed a new Limited Edition Xbox360 with a Modern Warfare 2 theme. And let me tell you, this baby is SWEET.

At the moment, Amazon is taking pre-orders for this Limited Edition console bundle.

It features a custom designed case, complete with authentic military GSA numbers, MW2 logos and graphics on a gunmetal gray case. It’s pretty freakin’ sweet guys.

The Limited Edition Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 bundle includes the custom designed Xbox 360 console, 250GB HDD for storage, two black wireless controllers, 1 black Xbox 360 Wireless headset, Xbox 360Composite A/V Cable and standard Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 game. This console will probably NOT include the HDMI cable, as that has been removed from the Elite packages since the price drop.  Apart from that, Microsoft also packs the standard free one month subscription to Xbox LIVE Gold and free Netflix trial offer.

This package has an expected MSRP of $399.99.

CoD4 Patch Bends Cheaters Over a Table

CoD4 Map Image 3

Have you gotten tired of people cheating, modding, glitching, and just generally being douche bags online in Call of Duty 4? So have Infinity Ward, who apparently haven’t completely given up supporting CoD4 (even though they’ve barely touched the game otherwise).

A new patch is now available to stop people from cheating in the game. How exactly were they cheating? Beats me, I stopped playing a while ago. I know a few of you out there are still addicted, which says a lot of the game. You’ll be prompted for the patch when you fire up the game, so download it and get your experience points the real way. Yeah, I’m talking to you.

CoD4 Reaches 11 Million Xbox Live Users, 4 Million PSN Users

Call of Duty 4

This news is significant for a number of reasons. First, CoD4 is huge, really huge. This is evident by the sheer number of gamers who are playing this, 15 million to be precise. For a franchise that was considered stagnant after CoD3, Infinity Ward has set themselves on a pedestal shared by the likes of Bungie. Now, when you look at the Xbox Live numbers, it is even more impressive.

According to Microsoft, Xbox Live has 17 million users overall, meaning two-thirds of them have played Infinity Ward’s first-person shooter. The figures track all players, not just those who’ve played online multiplayer (necessarily so, since the word is that only 9.5 million people pay for Xbox Live Gold).

That is mind boggling. Gamers who don’t play FPS are playing this. Granted the XBL trump PSN’s but that is for another day. The follow up is tentively called Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2. The name is cumbersome, but the game will certainly make us all go from six to midnight as soon as we play it. Pour some out for Infinity Ward.  They earned it.

Infinity Ward to Develop Call of Duty 6

Call of Duty 4 can be considered the best multiplayer FPS of all time. I am not saying it is, but it is certainly in the argument. The developers, Infinity Ward, have been confirmed to be the ones to bring us CoD 6. Here is a little Call of Duty console history lesson. CoD 2, Infinity Ward, 2005 GOTY. CoD3, Treyarch, rousing disappointment. CoD 4, Infinity Ward, 2007 GOTY. CoD 5, Treyarch, back in WWII??  The latest game looks great, but I am a little done with my M1 Garand. I’ll play it and probably enjoy it. I just won’t like it.

In 2009, we expect Infinity Ward to deliver another [entry of] ground-breaking quality, Call of Duty 6,” Griffith stated at today’s Activision Blizzard Analyst Day. Earlier this year, the CEO revealed that a new Call of Duty game would arrive in 2009, but did not offer any other details at the time.

News: Call Of Duty Series Returns To Infinity Ward

call-of-duty-3-6.jpg

Hey everybody! Remember this game? Yeah, you remember this game. Well you may or may not be glad to hear that after the Treyarchs fifth release in the COD series, all will be handed back to Infinity Ward. I for one welcome the return of the original developers – all I can hope for now is that Treyarch doesn’t screw up COD 5 like it did the series 3rd entry. For whatever reason the two studios have begun passing off COD to one another after every incarnation.

There are a few of you out there who get a little miffed at the trash talking being thrown Treyarchs way in regards to the series. But lets do a quick common sense comparison of both developers in regards to the franchise. Yeah?! Hit the jump for more »

Variety Map Pack in Certification for PS3

Call of Duty 4 Screen

Don’t fret, PS3 players of Call of Duty 4. Your maps are coming. Infinity Ward announced that the Variety Map Pack and ensuing patch went off to Sony for certification and is on schedule for release on April 24th on the PlayStation Store.

No release dates are final yet, so it could vary slightly, but I’d expect it to hit right on the expected time frame.

Xbox 360 owners have been loving the new maps, especially Chinatown. I’m sure it’s going to be the same on the PS3. Hopefully this patch brings rumble to CoD4 on the PS3 as well with the new DualShock 3 controllers.

Call of Duty 4 Map Pack Now Available for Xbox 360

CoD4 Map Image 1

After delayed, then no delayed, then delayed again, then no delays again, we finally have a concrete answer. According to Infinity Ward, the Variety Map Pack for CoD4 was scheduled to go live (no pun intended) on the Xbox 360 at 9:30am ET today. If you’re been anxiously waiting, why not take a half day and go grab these maps.

In an effort to battle Halo 3, Infinity Ward is offering some extra EXP this weekend for those playing on the new maps. Go get on it… you know you want to.

Call of Duty 4 Map Pack Un-Delayed

CoD4 Map Image 1

Yeah, it’s getting to be ridiculous and confusing to keep up with the release date for the Variety Map Pack. The truth it they’re aiming for a release later today or early tomorrow morning. Even though their websites and such have changed to show April 10th, Infinity Ward is stating on their blog that the maps have not been delayed.

As of right now we’re pushing certification for an on-time release for April 3rd or 4th. As of right now though, I’m being told that it’s a good chance it will be released worldwide (except for Japan) tomorrow night / early-Friday morning.

So there you have it people. Just keep checking Xbox Live and see if the maps are there. Who really knows at this point.
