Lag: My Old Nemesis

It has been quite some time since I had experienced lag so bad that it made me want to stop playing my video game, but it has happened again. Seems that my old nemesis LAG hit me yesterday and he was quite a fierce adversary. He first popped up after I downloaded the NXE on my Xbox 360 and tried to play some COD 5, the stutter and constant death was horrible. The LAG would make me teleport all over the screen and made shooting anyone or even shanking them with the knife difficult.

I had almost forgotten how terrible LAG can be, it made trying to play online like trying to run a race with your ankles tied together. I spent about 20 minutes during a match in Halo 3 in a re-spawn screen staring at the floor as the rest of the players had a good time and shot my non-moving body. The score would stay stuck at 0 - 0 and I would just be lying on the ground listening to others complain about getting shot in the face and in COD 5 I would continually get a “Connection Interrupted” message. The lag would consistently put me in the last spot and lost me a rank in Team Slayer and did not help my cause to try and get more perks.

Time to try and figure out what is going on, I can only hope that this experience has nothing to do with the new NXE and the avatars, I blame avatars for my lag. Do you have any good lag stories to share?

Xbox To Refund All Red Lights of Death Hardware Failures; Extends Warranty to 3 years

rings-of-death.jpgYou read correctly.  This is an OFFICIAL press release from Xbox stating that they will pay everyone back who had to have their Xbox360 repaired due to the RLoD.  Also, the new 3 year warranty will be extended for the price of on the house to anyone in the world who has the console.  The new warranty is very specific and will only deal with issues that result from the RLoD and not other problems.  You can contact Xbox by following the above link.  I can’t say anyone saw this coming.

Wii Not Bulletproof To Hardware Issues

wii1.jpgIt seems that the Red Lights of Death have been appearing on the Wii, this time in the form of green dots called Sparkles reports many users over in the Neogaf forums.  It seems that they happen when the system overheats or has been left on for a prolonged amount of time with high frame rate games such as Resident Evil 4.  It seems that Nintendo has been very good with replacing systems and users report that if the Wii is left vertical, it does not seem to heat up as much.  Since I do not own a Wii, I am unable to comment first hand, but is anyone else out there experiencing similar issues? If so, please let us know.

Playing Online, a huge headache!

Online GamingWhy?! Why must people that play online shooters or online in general be jerks? Why can’t people just play the %ucking game and not try to give everyone a headache? My frustration stems from GRAW 2 on the Xbox 360 and trying to play over Xbox Live, but it got me thinking about this particular item.

I was playing through GRAW 2 single player and decided to hop online and try some of the multiplayer gametypes, bad idea! I proceeded to try and just get a quick game online using the quick match funtion. I quickly got booted. OK, so I think this is nothing and try another one after running a custom search. 15 games later of trying to get into a game and not get booted, I finally go back to one of the original rooms and try to ask why i keep getting booted for no reason? Answer: Becasue my rank was 1, wtf?? So I ask the kids on the other side (that were level 9) if they born level 9 perchance? How the %uck are people supposed to level up or learn how to play if higher players won’t play with them for fear of losing levels?

Correct me if I am wrong, but if you are so good and are such a high level, what would be your fear of playing with some low level players anyway? Also I wasn’t aware that your GRAW level was correlated with some life or death statistic?! I proceeded to go off and yell at the kids in the room and vent my frustrations, but it just brought me to a bad place, why must online games give me heart burn?

Crackdown DLC Problems? Here is your answer.

crackdown1.jpgThere have been reports that the new downloadable content for Crackdown on the Xbox360 have been deleting saved games.  Nevertheless, the game designers at Crackdown have devised a foolproof way to make sure that this does not happen.

  1. Sign-in to Xbox Live
  2. Start Crackdown and receive new Title Update (if you haven’t already)
  3. Begin a Single Player Campaign game
  4. Once loaded, press Start and choose “Quit”
  5. Reboot Crackdown (soft reboot or hard reboot of console)

There you have it.  If you have not already downloaded the very cool, very worth it content, follow these steps and enjoy another run through.
