Hey guys, welcome back to another great episode of Twisted Gamer Radio. On today’s show, we open up with an incredible rap song we created on the fly using Rockstar’s Beaterator for the PSP and Jay Electronica’s new track created with the game. We chat about what we’ve been playing, and a few glitches found in the new Borderlands DLC, as well as Heavy Rain.

I’ve been playing a lot of Heavy Rain lately. The game has been sucking me in at the same level as Mass Effect 2. I’ve had a deep emotional connection with the game’s characters that makes me pine over every decision. While I’ve been absolutely loving the game, that all changed today. You see, Heavy Rain has a major technical glitch: game saves won’t load and will crash your PS3. Yeah, that happened.
After spending about 7.5 hours with the game, getting roughly 45 chapters into it, I can no longer play. When trying to load my save, the screen goes black and locks up my system. Sadly, this is a somewhat common occurrence, as hundreds of angry gamers are flooding the official PlayStation forums with complaints of freezing and other glitches such as audio being out of sync (for the record, I’ve had that happen twice). With no remedy in sight (not even loading the same or previous chapter), I won’t be able to finish the game until a patch fixes the issue. Most people have stated that if you have the problem once, starting a new game will exhibit the same freezing problems.
Since I can’t get through the rest of the game, our review will have to wait. Had I been able to finish without major technological issues, it most likely would have gotten 5 stars. Taking into account everything I’ve gone through already, that won’t be the case anymore.
I pre-ordered Heavy Rain from Best Buy and used all of my left over Rewards Zone certificates to cut the cost of yet another video game purchase down to a more manageable $40. I don’t see my situation getting any better over the next couple of weeks considering in March there’s going to be a ton of awesome releases coming our way that Matt mentioned previously. My game backlog is already full, but Heavy Rain has garnered a lot of press and buzz around the community for its “gameplay”, so I might slide this one to the top of the list.
Heavy Rain came out Tuesday, Feb. 23rd, and I just now get this e-mail from Best Buy about the delay? I figured I would be busy playing Bioshock 2, or the Borderlands Add-On DLC, or The Mis-adventures of P.B. Winterbottom, but this sure would have been nice to take a break from those and play the pre-quel episode BEFORE I actually get the game in the mail. I have literally been trying to download this prequel episode for two days now with no success. Thanks Best Buy. At least you let me know something! I’ve been tracking my package for Heavy Rain and it’s in my town, but I don’t know if it’s at my doorstep and they just haven’t updated their system yet. I’ll keep you guys posted. You guys have any issues or try to download this? Now you have an answer.
I got an interesting piece of mail today from Sony. A postcard for Heavy Rain showed up on my doorstep asking me just how far I’d go. After playing the demo extensively, my answer is pretty far. Dammit I want the full game of Heavy Rain (hint hint Sony).
Hit the jump to see more scans of the postcard. And let us know what you think of the Heavy Rain demo if you had a chance to play.
Later this month the much anticipated PS3 exclusive, Heavy Rain, is set to hit store shelves around the world. The hype machine on this game has started to roll and like a snowball down a ski slope it’s only getting bigger. Heavy Rain will be a media monster of 2010. In a year with dozens of major releases such as Mass Effect 2, Brink, and Splinter Cell Conviction, Heavy Rain will still manage to remain in the spotlight for most of year. Here is why…
I’ve been very interested in Heavy Rain for a while now. After seeing a lot more interactive parts of the game in this month’s Qore, I really want the game. But now after seeing the full first 9 minutes of gameplay, I went out and dropped cash to preorder the game. From everything I’ve seen, it’s going to be extremely engaging in a way we don’t often see in gaming. I’m all in.
Very often I read about news of game demos and content that come to the European PSN that we just don’t get over here in the hamburger filled USA. It doesn’t happen very often mind you, because most of it comes to the states a day or two later, but if you’re like me, and are impatient, you have to get that content as soon as it comes out. One way to do that is to create a separate account for the European PlayStation Network. How do you do that you might ask? Read on to get all of the juicy goodness of those fish and chip eating motherfuckers.
I have never tried lifting rain before, and I’m sure that if I did, I would end up crying like the woman pictured above. It’s a good thing that I try to refrain from physical movement as much as possible, and instead of any form of exercise, I’ll try playing Quantic Dream’s Heavy Rain when it comes out in February.
If you’re unfamiliar with Quantic Dream, they’re the same dudes who did Fahrenheit Indigo Prophecy, an action/adventure game of the same nature as Heavy Rain. I loved Farenheit, as it told a pretty decent story and managed to push the envelope of “video gamez iz art” somewhat.
- Heavy Rain: Chronicle 1 – The Taxidermist – Experience Madison’s dangerous investigation in full, before it’s available on the PlayStation Store
- The Heavy Rain Official Soundtrack – Recorded at the legendary Abbey Road studios, and filled with the powerful orchestral themes that form a key part of the experience of playing Heavy Rain
- Dynamic XMB theme – Lend a little Heavy Rain ambience to your XMB
Nothing too noteworthy, but if adventure games are your proverbial bag, Heavy Rain is certainly a game you should take note of.
While at the Eurogamer Expo this past weekend I sat in on the Quantic Dream developer session lead by David Cage, writer and director of Heavy Rain. I have already stated that I have huge expectations (and love) for Heavy Rain in my demo impressions, but here I will dive in a little more to what we were shown in the session and some of the interesting bits shared by Cage.
If it didn’t pick it up in the impressions I wrote this game is asking one key question. How far are you prepared to go to save someone you love? As Cage stated,
It’s set on the East Coast of the US and it’s the story of four characters who’s lives are interlaced around the investigation of a serial killer called the Origami Killer… All four characters will be presented with this question, “How far are you prepared to go to save someone you love?”
Heavy Rain. “An ambitious project” is the label that many have applied to this title. Many others have asked “what the hell is this about?”. I was one of the latter, not understanding the big deal, until I saw it this past weekend at the Eurogamer Expo in London. Wow is all I have to say. At first I walked by it as people played the demo, it looked amazing graphically and many people were glued to their screens, with many more equal entranced looking on over the players shoulder. Then I went to the Quantic Dream developer presentation lead by David Cage, which sent me from interested into wanting intensely. Finally, I got my hands on it. You ready for me to tell you about it? Hit the jump to find out.
