Evolution of Heavenly Sword

Did you know Heavenly Sword was once destined for the original Xbox as an exclusive? My have the times have changed. From the early stages in 2003 until now, the game has come a very long way.

Check out the video to see where it all began and thank the good Lord it ended up how it looks today. The gameplay of the early trailers doesn’t look too terribly fun.

Heavenly Sword Gameplay Blowout

If the Heavenly Sword demo didn’t give you enough gameplay to hold you over, here’s some videos showing more sword-play action.

Does anyone else think the main character looks a bit like Angelina Jolie?

Heavenly Sword for PS3 Release Dates Confirmed

heavenly-sword.jpgThere has been some debate on when exactly will the much anticipated Heavenly Sword title for PS3 will be released. Gamespy has confirmed that it will be September 4th of this year.  This action title has a Heroine(female hero not the drug) on a quest to recover a sword of infinite power from an invading king.  The demo has already been released and the game looks stunning.

Heavenly Sword (PS3) Demo Impressions

Heavenly Sword 6

The first thing that came to my mind after playing the Heavenly Sword demo was “where’s the rest”? More on that in a bit.

The game is beautiful, there’s no doubt about that. All those great screens and videos we’ve seen in the past definitely do the game justice. Animations were very crisp and the framerate is pretty stable as well, only dropping in a couple spots. I’m guessing it could be demo code that will be improved later on.

The controls feel very good, with similar button mappings to God of War. Oddly the game doesn’t have a jump button, which I would have thought would have made it easier to perform aerial combos. The use of the L1 and R1 buttons to change your fighting stance works very well. Aerial combos are very fun with the control scheme as are the Superstyle moves. The SIXAXIS control for aftertouch when throwing an object is fun, but I don’t think it will play that big a role in the game. I love the camera controls by using either the L2 and R2 buttons to pan left/right or by tilting the SIXAXIS in either direction.

New PlayStation Store Content – July 24th Edition

PlayStation Store Stock Image

Sony updated the PlayStation Store on the PS3 today, just like every Thursday. But today there’s something to be very excited about. We get a demo for Heavenly Sword.

We’ve known for a little while we’d see a Heavenly Sword demo soon, and it was confirmed earlier this week. The wait is over, except for the download time for the 996MB demo.

Other updates include a Metal Gear Solid 4 gameplay trailer, an extended Resident Evil 5 trailer, a Haze: Origins trailer, 30 Days of Night trailer, Across the Universe trailer, and an August Rush trailer.

So go fire up your PS3 and download all the new content. I know that’s what I’ll be doing.

Heavenly Sword Demo Coming This Thursday

Heavenly Sword 4

That’s right, one of the hottest PS3 titles coming soon, Heavenly Sword, will have a demo available this Thursday on the PlayStation Store.

The demo is short and sweet, only lasting around 10 minutes or so but giving you a nice taster of the multiple-style fighting system, the interactive cutscenes and physics-based scenery.

You’ll take on a group of men on a high cliff, slide acrobatically down three huge ropes and land in an object-filled courtyard where you can use the scenery around you to batter another dozen soldiers.

Get ready to fire up your PS3 and play this for hours on end. I expect this to be one of the best games of the year. Too bad the demo is so short

E307: Heavenly Sword Trailer/Interview

Here’s a trailer/interview from Sony’s press conference for Heavenly Sword. This is one of the top games coming to the PS3 this year. I can’t for to play this one.

Here’s your HD lovin.

New Heavenly Sword Screens

Heavenly Sword 1

We got some new screens today of Heavenly Sword for the PS3. Unfortunately, they aren’t giant HD screens, but they’re still pretty.

This game should be very fun when released later this year.

Heavenly Sword Developer Interview

Heavenly Sword Screen

PlayStation Universe got a chance to sit down with Heavenly Sword Producer Kyle Shubel to discuss some details on the upcoming game.

Some of the bigger points from the interview:

  • More advanced cutscene animation than Lord of the Rings movies or King Kong
  • No multiplayer, HOME support is likely
  • Demo is planned, probably before release
  • The game will run at 720p at a constant 30fps
  • The question about the length of single player campaign was semi-dodged, leading to the impression it will be fairly short
  • Fall 07 release date

I’m looking forward to this game for the PS3 this fall. Every new screenshot or video that comes out just keeps looking better and better.

The Getaway (PS3) Screens

The Getaway PS3 Image

You wanna see some amazing graphics? Look here. These are in-game screens from the new Getaway game for the PS3 compared to real life stills from London. Holy dookers these looks amazing.

After seeing these screens and the recent Heavenly Sword screens, I’m starting to have a lot of faith in the PS3.
