When the name Tom Clancy is stamped on a game, you are assured that it will at the very least be good if not great. Since Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell and Rainbow 6 landed in next gen, they have tried to expand into other war related markets such as RTS and now Flight Sim. Is their attempt to conquer the fighter pilot genre a foregone conclusion? We will have to wait and see.
Tom Clancy and by proxy Ubisoft is expanding the franchise outside of FPS. EndWar was cool, but nowhere near as bad ass as we all hoped it would be. The franchise now moves to Flight Sim and this could be a sleeper hit. Good flying games are few and far between and outside of Ace Combat, there really is not much else. This trailer is all CGI, but it does peak interest. I am waiting for some in-game trailers, but this will do for now.
The Tom Clancy library is expanding and will be making a splash in air combat sims this fall with the release of HAWX. The game looks like an Ace Combat rip, but promises to deliver great flight mechanics. I can only hope that the missions are varied. Flight sims can get a little stale and repetitive.
Tom Clancy has done it all. Espionage, Recon, Infiltration, and even an RTS is coming our way soon. What is left? Kickass fighter planes beating the enemy into submission. HAWX is who you call when the shit hits the fan. Check out the latest trailer for his upcoming new title.
