Feeling a bit too happy today? I’m not – looking over this list of some high profile games that were cut off mid development makes me sad. Be it Ensemble Studios Halo MMO or Blizzards Starcraft Ghost, no one likes to see a potentially awesome game cut off during development, never to see the light of day again.
So grab some tissues, hit the jump, and shed manly (or womanly) tears with me as we look at some of these games that never quite made it.

What is the only thing better than a Halo novel? 3 Halo novels. Sci Fi author Greg Bear will be writing the first Forerunner book in the Haloverse. Not much is known about the race and without spoiling the lore from previous books, this will finally bring all the reasons of the mysterious Covenant religion to the forefront. The first novel is due out 2010, which I will be pre-ordering as soon as I can.

Halo action figure fans may commence the redemption process. McFarlane’s Halo Points program has officially gone live after months of waiting. The process is simple, just fill out the PDF located at their website and mail the completed form along with your points to the address listed on the page. In 6-8 weeks you should receive your hard earned free product of choice.
For those of you that aren’t aware of the program and how it works, allow me to explain. On the back of all Halo action figure packages that are created by McFarlane Toys, there is a barcode with a set number of points allocated to it. The more rare and expensive figures are given a greater number of points. You may collect these points and redeem them for various items such as a lithograph or even a gold Master Chief figure.
What are you waiting for? Start filling out that form and get it in the mail immediately!

Somehow with all of this holiday excitement I forgot to remind everyone that yesterday was the release of the most recent Halo novel Halo: The Cole Protocol. It is the sixth book in the long running series of novels, this one being written by newcomer Tobias S. Buckell. The book centers around the story of the Spartan II Gray Team and it also gives a more in-depth perspective of the Jackal race, something most fans will appreciate since the previous novels have covered pretty much every other Covenant species.
Eric Nylund had previously showed interest in writing this novel but the task ended up going to Tobias S. Buckell, a relative unknown. Even if you are only a moderate Halo fan I recommend giving the novels a shot. You can even pick up the first three novels in the series as a box set for an extremely fair price at Amazon. Give your eyes a break from all of those screens scattered around your home and read a book.

McFarlane Toys is at it again. The second wave of their Halo series of action figures has been given a release date of March 2009. Most of the figures are the same from the previous series but include different colors, along with different armor and weapon variations. The one new addition to the lineup is the Marine figure.
Don’t forget, just like previous Halo action figures from McFarlane, certain figures will only be available in specific stores, so follow the link below to find out exactly where to purchase them along with a whole bunch of photos to gawk at.

The latest novel in the phenomenal Halo series is due out November 25. The book, titled Cole Protocol, which follow the invasion of the Covenant that was described in Contact Harvest. For those of you outside of the Halo canon, the Cole Protocol refers to the instructions any UNSC ship must follow when returning to Earth. The Covenant can never know where the home planet is and if they do, we are in deep shit. The find it in Halo 3, but whatever. Anyhow, the cover looks great and I am looking forward to see what the new author hear does. Joseph Staten was amazing and I hope the author here does the story justice.

I checked back at Bungie to see if anything new was written about the Title Update#2 which was expected to be released at 2am PCT. It turns out that there is much ado at the 7th Column. At the homepage, you are greeted by The Superintendent, which seems like an automated distress signal or possibly a corrupted AI. Its evident that something is happening there and someone is trying to have someone remain calm. My guess… its a Covenant Invasion. We have all been thinking that a 3rd Person Shooter is a possibility because they are so many interesting characters in the Haloverse outside of Master Chief. The game could be revealed this week, some say as soon as today. Stay Tuned.
According to OXM, Halo 4 is in the works. Shocking, I know. But who the magazine says is developing the game is what’s interesting. OXM says that Gearbox, the makers of Brother’s in Arms, are working on the next Master Chief saga.

The even bigger kicker is that the title isn’t coming to the Xbox 360. According to the rumor, Halo 4 will be a launch title for Microsoft’s next console. I personally had figured 2010 or maybe later for the next round of consoles to the hit the market. Considering we haven’t heard anything concrete, this would fall in line with that time.
We’ll have to see what happens, as Gearbox is saying it’s just a rumor and we all know Microsoft doesn’t comment on rumors and speculation. I’m fairly sure Halo 4 is in development somewhere, but when and where it surfaces has yet to be seen.

I have been looking across the internets for a way to expand my Halo related interests. After reading all the books, twice, and getting almost all of the non-cheating achievements, I have taken up the latest craze: Halo ActionClix. This is a table top Halo game that is like Battlemechs, but with characters from the Haloverse. The game is a blast and the rules easy to follow, but the figures are not exactly easy to find. That’s when I stumbled into Installation 05.
Based on the Halo ring that Master Chief crash landed on in Halo 1, this site has anything and everything you would want in Halo toys. Besides the ActionClix, they now have the Limited Edition Series 2 Halo 3 figures from McFarlane. They look bad ass. I bought 3 boosters packs of ActionClix on Tuesday and they already showed up. Definitely check this site out and see what they have to offer. I talked to the admin over there and he was cool as shit. They frequently run contests and we will bring you word when they do. Also, let me know if any of you get into ActionClix for Halo. A challenge may ensue at a bar in NYC soon.

We have our ideas, what are yours? Take a vote and maybe you know more than we do about what the upcoming project is. You probably know more than us anyway.
