Halo Legends is available today next Tuesday for purchase on DVD, Blu-Ray, and digital download [UPDATE - apparently I read the wrong press release and it's not available until next week. Coffee is not doing its job today...]. I put the Blu-Ray through its paces and have come to one conclusion: it’s awesome. Being a big fan of the Halo canon, the way each of the 8 story segments intertwines with the universe is terrific. I loved 7 of the story segments, with only one being a little too far fetched and Saturday-morning-cartoonish for my tastes (“Odd One Out”). The art direction, story, and voice acting are all very good.
What really surprised me was how well produced the extras are (if you get the Blu-Ray or special edition DVD). There are two main areas: one describing the Halo story so far, and the other in depth look at how Halo evolved in the gaming realm through the years.
If you’re a Halo fan, do yourself a favor and go pick this one up. It’s not cheap, but it’s worth the price of admission. I can see myself watching this quite a few times.

Being a fan of both anime and the Halo universe, I’m excited by the announcement of Halo Legends, coming this Fall. The series will have enormous implications on the anime world, as casual gamers and those only obsessed with Halo could see anime for the first time. Will this expand the genre’s reach? It’s certainly possible, but we’ll have to wait until the end of the year to find out. For now, check out the debut trailer of Halo Legends and start making your own energy swords in your parent’s basement.
