This is one of the coolest and possibly the most unnecessary mods I have ever scene. This guy took his Nintendo DS version of Guitar Hero: On Tour and integrated it into a full sized guitar to make playing it easier, it also transmits the music to his entertainment center. I agree that the DS version hand grip is borderline horrible because it will cause you major uncomfort after a couple of songs, but this mod makes the game huge, which defeats the purpose of a portable game. I guess unless you don’t mind walking round the streets with a guitar and headphones you will be fine.
All I can say is wow! His parents are letting him leave school in order to pursue an idiotic dream of being a pr-Guitar Hero player?! This definitely goes in the WTF file. He is being forced to be home schooled, but I mean come on, how can you allow your child to abandon getting a real education for playing GH for money?
Blake Peebles, 16, of Raleigh, dropped out of school last year to devote himself to playing ‘Guitar Hero,’ and his parents agreed to have him home-schooled. ‘I usually play till I can’t anymore,’ Blake says.
Blake has done well in local tournaments, including one held at a Chick-fil-A that earned him 52 combo meals. By his account, he has lost only once since “Guitar Hero III” was released late last year. Some of that time was spent playing online, against players from all over the world.
This is how he knows he’s good. It wasn’t that long ago that kids who excelled at some activity, say basketball, would only have to go to the next neighborhood to have their dreams crushed by some older, more accomplished player.
Today, on Xbox 360, players use the system’s online component to compare scores with players all over the world. Blake, who goes by the online name “Dreminem,” figures that he has top-10 scores on 20 or so of songs on “Guitar Hero III.”
I guess if you want to be a pro-gamer you got to practice a lot, but even though I am an avid gamer and would love to have pro-gamer children, there is no way in hell I would let them leave school. What if this kid gets a GH related injury that ends his career? then it is trips to the local avenue to service people with ZJ’s for a dollar. This just sounds like a bad South Park skit, too bad its real.
Let me add that it is a thong bikini, enough said! This one is questionable to be playing on your office computer so I reserved it for the evening post, so you can watch in the privacy of your own home. I think she is playing Guitar Hero, but who really cares, it is actually a pretty boring video and song. This new fad of scantily clad females playing rhythm games and Wii Fits is a welcomed site, I’m curious to see what is next. Enjoy!
The new guitar peripheral coming with Guitar Hero World Tour just might be the best one when it’s released this Fall. With all new features like the slider bar and Star Power button, it may be the one to have for all your rocking out needs. I still use my wired Guitar Hero II axe for most guitar purposes.
Everyone has been enjoying Guitar Hero on the Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, and even the Wii for quite some time now, but our friends over at Activision/Vicarious Visions decided that we, the gamer, needed to have Guitar Hero goodness on the go as well and developed Guitar Hero: On Tour. GH: On Tour brings you 26 tracks that you can now rock out on your Nintendo DS complete with multiplayer modes.
The hand grip is awkward at best and really needs some time to get used to, but fortunately is very easy to install into the Gameboy Advance slot. Unfortunately, I can only play about 3 songs at a time before my hand begins cramping up and getting uncomfortable. There is a Velcro strap on the hand grip to help hold it in place, but it does little to help. The game comes with a stylus guitar pick, which you use to strum on the right screen as the notes scroll down the left screen.
Guitar Hero: Aerosmith takes the reigns and runs with the first full game based on a single band’s music. Aerosmith has the honor and the extensive music catalog for the task. Sporting over 40 new songs and venues, the game is essentially an expansion pack for the wildly successful Guitar Hero III, albeit a very good one.
Guitar Hero games have never been about insane graphics. Most of the time, you don’t even see them while playing. But behind the fretboard, there is a lot going on. The characters and environments have been improved slightly from Guitar Hero III, with some motion captured Aerosmith characters for most of the game. Steven Tyler has never looked so digital and Joe Perry’s shredding is pretty cool in the Guitar Hero style. There are six new venues that chronicle the history of the band, from their early days trying to get signed all the way up to their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Square Enix just announced that Final Fantasy XIII will be coming to the Xbox 360 and the Microsoft camp. The Microsoft big wig was the first to also add that this is one of the many Sony PlayStation franchises that have transitioned to the Xbox 360, from Guitar Hero to Grand Theft Auto and now Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy fans and Xbox fans can now rejoice as they join forces, everyone tries to forget about FFXI and that poor excuse for an MMORPG.
::UPDATE:: Let me add that this is quite a kick in the shins to Sony. A lot of questions do come to mind though that Square is not ready to answer. How many discs will the Xbox 360 version ship with? Will there be any exclusive DLC on the PS3 BluRay version or 360? For now both versions of the game are identical.
We do know that FFXIII will drop in Japan first and then come to Europe and North America. An Xbox 360 version for Japan does not seem to be in the cards at this time, looks like they will depend on Sony to handle their sales in Japan. Final Fantasy Versus XIII is still a PlayStation 3 exclusive.
Rock Band 2 is coming to the PS3 and Wii on November 17th, almost two months after the Xbox 360 release according a retailers.
Gamestop is listing the PS3, PS2, and Wii release dates for the game only and bundle as November 17th. The Xbox 360 will see the game only on September 30th and the bundle on October 30th. For the record, Guitar Hero: World Tour is shipping everything on October 26th.
Will this hurt Harmonix to not have any bundled releases out before Guitar Hero: World Tour ships? And will a month delay for all systems other than Xbox 360 hurt sales? Time will tell, but I’m expecting that they will lose a decent amount of Holiday 2008 customers to Guitar Hero. Either way, they’re still going to be out before Black Friday for all systems.
I just got a copy of Guitar Hero: On tour for my Nintendo DS and I got a bit of time to try some of the songs and the peripherals. The game comes with a hand strap/grip, guitar pick (stylus), stickers and the game. The hand grip has four buttons on it, which correspond to different notes similar to the console versions of Guitar Hero with one button missing. One major difference in gameplay is the usage of Star Power is easier on the DS version, all you have to do is scream into the microphone to activate, if your in public you can also hit the D-pad.
After playing around with the DS version of Guitar Hero a few things jump out at you very quickly: you will need good pair of head phones to hear the music in order to enjoy this properly, you will need to get used to the timing on a small screen as the notes scroll down and you will need to take breaks every so often to stretch your hand. The grip of the game and getting to the buttons is awkward at best, I have bigger hands so getting to all four buttons is not optimal. Also the more you play the more your hands will inevitably cramp up since they will be stuck in the same position for a few minutes at a time, the game actually begins with a warning and tells you to try different positions to help with this.
So far the concept of Guitar Hero DS is great but the implementation although solid just does not translate well. I think the biggest problem for the game will not be the gameplay itself but the awkward grip and people being displeased with how it feels over time. Look for a full review of this bad boy quite soon.
In a move to fire up gamers for the 4th of July weekend Activision is releasing a free downloadable track for Guitar Hero 3 on both the PSN and Xbox LIVE and it is the theme from Top Gun. I have to say this is a pretty cool freebie and a great song to play on the guitar, too bad it gets a bit repetitive towards the middle of the song.
This is one of the better DLC songs released especially because it’s free, it is right up there with the Halo song. Listening to this makes me want to go out and do Mach 3 in a fighter plane and eject my co-pilot and break his neck, poor Goose.
If you don’t know what the song sounds like, shame on you! After listening to the cuts from Top Gun I think GH should make a Top Gun themed game, screw Aerosmith! Here it is:
Hit the jump for more Top Gun songs, I just felt inspired after listening to the theme song and also for the official press release: Read More »
