Review: Guitar Hero 5

Guitar Hero 5 Screen

Guitar Hero has gone through a lot of changes since its inception back on the PS2. After bringing in the full band and expanding with both Metallica and Smash Hits, Guitar Hero 5 is here chock full of tweaks and 85 songs for you to show your inner rock star. While the gameplay changes are great, the soundtrack doesn’t stack up to the previous iterations.

Interview: Guitar Hero 5

Along with Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, we got to try out some of the Wii exclusive features of Guitar Hero 5 this past Monday at Vicarious Visions. In a press Roadie Battle tournament, Loot Ninja came out on top. We sat down with David Nathanielsz, the game’s producer, to talk all about what’s new in Guitar Hero 5 for the Wii. Trust me, it’s now a worthy purchase.

Loot Ninja’s Vicarious Visions Studio Tour 2009

Well, this was a fun day. You know what’s better than visiting the Vicarious Visions studio? Nothing, that’s what. Six and a half hours flew by as we ate, played games, ate, toured, ate,  interviewed the staff, ate and played more games. And at the end of the day, Matt had to drag me away – because I could have done another day or three-hundred and sixty-five very easily (that and I ate twice my body weight and couldn’t move – but we’ll get to that later). Buy Guitar Hero 5, Get Guitar Hero Van Halen FREE

Guitar Hero 5 Screen

I did a double take when I read a press release a few minutes ago from Activision. If you buy a specially marked copy of Guitar Hero 5 in the month of September, you will get an advanced copy of Guitar Hero Van Halen absolutely free. Holy shit people!

Guitar Hero 5 is dropping September 1st and this one hell of a deal. If you have a desire to get either game, run out to whatever game store you prefer in a few weeks and pick this one. Maybe even pre-order it, if you’re into that kind of thing.

I’m very much looking forward to Guitar Hero 5 with its new feature set, much more than previous iterations of the series. Maybe I’ll even shell out the money for the new drumset, since my Guitar Hero World Tour set has never worked right.

Guitar Hero 5 Has New Features Out the Wazoo

If there’s one thing that rhythm games have been lacking, it’s customization. Want to play with multiple guitarists or hop in/out mid song? No dice… until now. Guitar Hero 5 should rock your balls to the core with features and hopefully the setlist can deliver in a similar manner.

GH5 Complete Band List Announced

Guitar Hero 3 Screen

Activision has announced the complete list of bands that will be playable in GH5. The announcement comes rather soon after GH:WT and GH: Metallica hit the shelves and on the heels of the GH: Beatles. Looks like the genre is becoming a little flooded, but there is a rather dedicated fan base. Hit the jump for the full list.
