Dropkick Murphys are one of my favorite bands. Maybe it’s because I’m 75% Irish, my favorite holiday is St. Patty’s Day, and I’m a huge Notre Dame fan. Hell, I like them so much I used “I’m Shipping Up to Boston” as the entrance music for my wedding party.
You, too, will be able to enjoy Dropkick Murphys for free in a short while for Guitar Hero 3. To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, Activision will be dropping a three song track pack on everyone for no cost.
Straight from the band’s sixth album, The Meanest of Times, the Dropkick Murphys pack will include master recordings of “Famous for Nothing,” “(F)lannigan’s Ball” and “Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ya.”
I’m all over this like a fat kid on a cupcake. No word on the exact dates of availability and how long they’ll be available for free. We’ll keep you posted.
It’s always a shock when Guitar Hero 3 actually gets downloadable content. It’s an even bigger shock when gamers actually have any idea who the artists are and want to play those songs. Well, today brings that shock. Now available on the Xbox Live Marketplace, and later today on the PlayStation Store, you can download the No Doubt Track Pack.
The songs included are “Don’t Speak”, “Excuse Me Mr”, and “Sunday Morning”. These are all master tracks.
You can expect to drop 500 MS Points, or $6.25, on these songs. Say what now? Why are Guitar Hero songs more expensive than those in Rock Band, where you also get drum and vocal tracks? Yeah, I don’t think I’ll be picking these up. My rhythm game DLC these days is all Rock Band related so everyone can get involved when we play.
Fans of the Wii patiently waited for GH3: Legends of Rock to come out and when it did there was one major problem. The game was not in Dolby Surround as promised or advertised. Instead, we got the sweet sound of Mono which in layman’s terms is shit. Doing the noble thing, Nintendo is giving you the choice of either a refund for the game or a replacement game disc. Chances are that you would take the disc because you wanted the game and who knows when the refund will show up. Feel free to call bullshit on this, but Activision has posted this on their official page. A word of advice:
That little boy’s gotta think ‘You got a guitar. You got a responsibility.’ If your guitar is lost you don’t look for an hour then call it quits? You get your ass out there, and you find that fucking guitar!
Fact: This kid is very, very good. He turns his back on the song about 2 mins in and nails it. Fiction: This kid has friends and a developed childhood. Don’t get me wrong, I am impressed by this but they need to get this kid a real guitar. And maybe some Sunny D

It’s been almost 3 months now since the release of Rock Band, and PS3 owners are still left out in the cold for that elusive second guitar. Xbox 360 and PS2 owners have been able to use Guitar Hero controllers since day one to complete their 4 person band. But for whatever reason, PS3 users have been neglected. We all heard about the patch that was completed and blocked by Activision to remedy the issue, then it just went away.
As an owner for Rock Band for PS3, I have to say it’s very disappointing. I think EA will make a ton of money once the standalone guitars are released. In the same breath, I think Activision lost a ton of money on Guitar Hero sales. Many gamers would have gone out and picked up a copy of Guitar Hero 3 for PS3 for that extra guitar. But because of the patch being blocked, there’s no reason. And why haven’t we heard anything else about that patch? The two companies just can’t come to an agreement to work out for gamers, the exact group of people that should matter most here?
I can understand it’s about money and using other company’s technologies, but come on. If it works for the other two platforms, there should be absolutely no issue with it working on every platform. That’s it for my rant for today. I’m going back to nursing this insane hangover from the Super Bowl
