Dragonforce World Record Broken

Chris Chike reclaimed the Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Guinness World Record by hitting a 1084 note streak. He does this while his entire family watches on, which is kind of weird when you think about it. You can listen as he absolutely shreds the song on expert and hits 97% of the notes. I like how he is all nonchalant about it and even picks up the phone at the end and plainly tells someone he just broke the record like it was as mundane as eating cereal. Also someone needs to tie that kid up and put a sock in his mouth, nothing ruins a great world record moment like some kid talking into the camera, but the end does show some gratuitous cleavage of members of the family and some odd shirts hanging in the background. Enjoy and congrats to Chris.

GTA IV knocks out Spider Man 3, Harry Potter and Halo 3

GTA IV
So everyone thought that GTA IV would do well, but Guinness was keeping their eye on this one for some time now. Looks like Rockstar with GTA IV has spanked the previous record for the highest grossing video game in it’s first 24 hours on the market. This title previously was held by the MS juggernaut that is Halo 3, it also beat out Spider Man 3 and Harry Potter. GTA has already solidified it’s place in the record books and in gamer’s hearts already. Bravo to Rockstar.

Here is the official word:

The famed Grand Theft Auto series has made headlines yet again! As newly-released sales figures show, Grand Theft Auto IV has crushed the competition by selling 3.6 million units and earning $310 million in its first day of release, earning Guinness World Records™ for the Highest Grossing Video Game in 24 Hours and the Highest Revenue Generated by an Entertainment Product in 24 Hours. These records establish GTA IV as the most profitable entertainment release of all-time, far surpassing other video game, film and book releases. According to Guinness World Records™, this is how the game stacks up against the competition:

Fastest-selling video game in 24 hours: Halo 3 at $170 million
Fastest-selling theatrical movie in 24 hours: Spider-Man 3 at $60 million
Fastest-selling book in 24 hours: Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows at $220 million

Guinness World RecordsTM Eyes Release Of Upcoming “Grand Theft Auto IV” As A Potential Record Breaking Giant

Record breaking
Can you smell it? That’s right GTA IV is almost here, actually it has already arrived in New Zealand and the land down under but soon it will be hitting our East coast of North America, sucks to be in California or even Hawaii right about now I guess.

Looks like Guinness World Records is also eagerly awaiting the time of GTA IV as they are planning on chronicalling the expected record-breaking phenomenon. No doubt in my mind that there will be quite a few records broken in lots of categories by this monster title.

Here are some of the records the franchise already holds:

Easily one of the most anticipated games of the year and biggest releases in the entertainment industry, the GTA franchise is no stranger to the famed pages of Guinness World Records. Ever since the franchise released its first third-person game with Grand Theft Auto III, the series has been racking up record after record.

• First Full “Sandbox” Action-Adventure- GTA III
• Biggest Selling Game of 2001- GTA III
• Biggest Selling Game of 2002- GTA: Vice City
• Best-selling Playstation 2 game of all time- GTA: Vice City
• Best-selling PSP game of all time- GTA: Liberty City Stories
• Largest in-game soundtrack- GTA: San Andreas
• Largest Voice Cast in a video game- GTA: San Andreas
• Most Guest Stars In A Video Game Series- Grand Theft Auto Franchise

With fans counting down the hours to GTA IV’s debut, it will only be a matter of time until a new record is added to that impressive list.

Interview with Guinness World Record holder for Tapper

Tapper
We told you we would get some thoughts form the current Guinness World Record holder for fastest time through the first 5 stages of Tapper and we deliver. Look into the mind of man consumed by everything Tapper related.

Loot Ninja: Tell us a bit about yourself and how long you have been gaming.
Michael P.: I’m 25, and I’m from the middle of nowhere in western PA. I moved to NYC about 7 months ago, and I’m currently a graphic designer at a web marketing company in Brooklyn. I’m still trying to figure out what I really want to do though. I’ve been gaming for about as long as I can remember. Although my dad has long since stopped gaming, he is the one that got me started with ColecoVision. I can remember playing that obsessively until around 1990 when we got an NES. My favorite games for Coleco are Jumpman Junior, The Heist, Oil’s Well and Squish’em Sam. After SNES, I stopped playing the new ones so much. Every once in awhile though, I get really into a new game. I’m really into drumming in Rock Band right now. I love Mario Kart 64, and my favorite game ever might be Amplitude. I also like the color blue.

Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition 2008 - Book Review

Guinness Gamers Edition

Yeah I know we don’t do many book reviews here, since typically the only reading we like to do at Loot Ninja is in the text of an RPG, but this book caught my eye so I thought I would give you guys some thoughts on it. The Guinness World Records is a pretty prestigious thing to hold, so seeing a Gamer’s Edition is a welcome thing, looks like games continue to be taken serious even by the folks at Guinness.

The book not only has records for fastest time to beat certain games and high scores, but also gives you a time line of video games in general, which is very cool. The book gives you a view into the different styles of games, ranging from shooter to MMORPG and also focuses in on certain titles that have made big impacts in gaming. There are excerpts on Metroid, Halo, Gears of War and even the top Arcade games.

Help Make St. Patty’s Day an Official Holiday

Guinness

Don’t you wish you had off on St. Patty’s day? I wish I had off the day after, but anyway, Guinness has launched their Proposition 317 page. If they can secure 1 million signatures by March 16, they can present the case to Congress. You don’t see people getting hammered on Columbus day do you? If we can celebrate an Italian guy getting lost by about 2600 miles, we can celebrate green beer, drunken hand jobs, and everything else about St. Patty’s Day.

Vote YES on Prop 317.
