Another Big Holiday Release Day – What Are You Buying?

left-4-dead-2-cast

There’s a ton of big new releases today for your shopping needs. Assassin’s Creed 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Tony Hawk Ride, God of War Collection, and LittleBigPlanet for PSP highlight the show. Are you buying any the big names today? I’m definitely grabbing Left 4 Dead 2 and the God of War Collection this week. Assassin’s Creed 2 is on my “must-buy” list, but it’s going to have to wait a couple weeks until I have more time.

What about you? Which games are you picking up this week or adding to your Christmas list? Who wants to shoot zombies with me on 360?

God of War III Ultimate Edition

gow3-ultimate-edition

Good fucking god.

Sony has announced the God of War III “Ultimate Edition” details – and it looks like an extremely manly collector’s edition indeed.

For the low price of $99, you get:

  • Limited Edition Art Book
  • Combat Challenge Arena
  • Exclusive Kratos Skin
  • God of War Documentary
  • God of War Trilogy Soundtrack
  • God of War: Blood and Metal EP

Seems like a good enough of a deal, although I don’t know how well the sculpted Pandora’s Box the entire thing comes in will match my decor.  For a hundred bones, I’m not sure it’s entirely worth it, but then again it is God of War we’re talking about.  Between this and the God of War Collection coming out in the near future, I’m about ready to kick the shit out of some demons.  March can’t come soon enough.

Original God of War Collection Coming to PS3

Sony announced today that the original God of War games will be seeing a re-release this holiday season, complete with 720p HD graphics, 60 frames per second, and more quick time sex events than you can shake a Blade of Chaos at.  As an added bonus, both games will support PS3 trophies, if you’re into that kind of thing.

God of War represents the pinnacle of Playstation 2 technology – minimum load times, amazing graphics, and fluid combat, and an updated high definition release is just the type of thing to augment next year’s God of War III.  The 2 disc compilation will cost $39.99. Not bad considering they are two of the best games to graze the PS2.  I’ll be picking this up as soon as it is out, how about you guys?

Rumor Mill: Kratos Playable in Soul Caliber IV

Kratos

Soul Caliber IV is turning into a fan-fest of characters. The latest rumor is that Kratos will be a playable character on the PS3 version of the game. Could actually be damn cool with his Blades.

This hasn’t been confirmed by Namco Bandai just yet, but I’d expect an announcement at E3. And if PS3 is getting it’s own exclusive character, what about the 360? Can we expect Master Chief or something like that? Only time will tell.

God of War + Guitar Hero 3 = Awesome

GH3 will release a free track which is from the God of war universe. The Song titled, “The End Begins” will be available via free download. Here are a free choice chords. The song is not nearly as iconic as the Halo Theme, but still rocks. Here’s hoping they keep doing these sorts of things. What songs do you guys think they should do next? I’m sure if we all came to a consensus, they would maybe hear what we had to say.

God of War Track Coming to GH3

God of War 3 Coming Soon

There will be a God of War themed track to be released for download on the PS3 version of Guitar Hero 3. The track will be free and ready for download on June 5. This may seem odd, but remember when Bungie made the Halo theme a free download. Could this mean that a GoW 3 announcement will be dropped on us soon? We friggin’ hope so. We’ll let you know again the day that it is available.

God of War: Chains of Olympus TV Spot

Sony decided it was a good time to drop an amazing commercial for a PSP game, with God of War being released today. I haven’t seen this on TV yet, but it’s pretty damn cool.

This game is a must buy. No questions about it.

Review: God of War: Chains of Olympus (PSP)

God of War PSP Screen 1

Everyone’s favorite Spartan warrior is back, and this time on the PSP. Kratos steps up in to this prequel to the God of War series. The PS2 games have been some of the biggest in the system’s history, but just how well does Kratos do on the go? Here is a breakdown of some of the facets of God of War: Chains of Olympus for the PSP:

Presentation and Graphics: Hands down this is the most beautiful game on the PSP to date. The graphics are flat out stunning. Characters and environments are all meticulously detailed with great lighting effects. There are many times when you’ll think you’re playing a PS2 version on a tiny screen. Weapon and Magic animations are all done very well, as are the cutscenes which further your knowledge of Kratos’ story. 10 of 10

Want to see what Kratos will look like on the PSP from all angles? Check it out.

I’m torn on this… I absolutely love the Kratos on the battery cover, but I’m not sure about the red. I really like my white PSP Slim. If only they’d release a Kratos battery door cover…

God of War Red PSP Coming This Summer

God of War Red PSP

Are you thinking of picking up a PSP Slim? This might be a reason to wait. Come June, a new bundle will be released for $199 that gives you a Limited-Edition “Deep Red” PSP with Kratos silkscreened on the back. I like the Kratos on the back better than my Darth Vader, but I’m not sure how much I like the red.

The bundle will also include a copy of God of War: Chains of Olympus, a UMD movie of Superbad, and a voucher to download Syphon Filter: Combat Ops from the PlayStation Store.

Are you going to be able to wait until June to get your God of War satisfaction on PSP? The game is coming out next week, so June might be a little too long for you to wait. Either way, Kratos looks great on the handheld.
