There are definitely some must have titles this Holiday season, but it’s not the barrage of greatness we’ve seen in years past. With all the delays, it turns out that Spring 2010 will be stronger than what’s coming out this Fall and Winter. Today, 2K announced a February 9th release date for BioShock 2. Couple that with other huge releases like Assassins Creed 2 and God of War 3 and you have a stacked time frame.
Time and hands-on play will determine which season ultimately gets the better releases. I’m leaning towards this Holiday for more quality titles, such as Halo 3 ODST, Modern Warfare 2 and Uncharted 2, but the Spring will have a larger quantity of big name games. That’s fine by me since it’ll give me a chance to actually get through all of those games instead of rushing on to others. I heart video games.
I’m honestly not sure what words I can say that convey the awesomeness, epic scale, and sheer brutality of God of War 3. You’ve seen the trailers and gameplay demo videos (if you haven’t, check your gamer card at the door). I got to play the demo at E3 twice. Yes, I stood in line. Yes, I enjoyed every minute.
According to a recent media alert sent out by Sony, God of War III is part of their big releases for 2009. While we previously had no idea when the game would be released, it looks like Sony accidentally let part of the cat out of the bag.
[Killzone 2] ushers in an unprecedented year of titles to hit the PlayStation platform throughout the year including the blockbuster exclusives Uncharted 2: Among Thieves™, inFamous, MAG™, Heavy Rain, God of War® III and MLB® 09 The Show™.
Certainly sounds like this year to me. Sony has said officially that the release date will be announced at E3, so we’ll just have to wait until early June to find out. Either way, I think they have one hell of a lineup coming this year.
David Jaffe, the man behind some of Sony’s greatest titles like Twisted Metal and God of War, drops a little colorful knowledge on us and how he feels about some things going down. This is a direct quote from his personal blog:
“ps. I saw GOD OF WAR III when I was in Santa Monica last week. I can and will not give away details. But I think it’s ok for me to say two things:
a- HOLY HOLY HOLY FUCKING HELL!
b- I thought GEARS OF WARS 2 looked about as good as a next-gen game could look… and that game is currently- and will probably remain- my game of the year. And hell, I think I actually get to vote on that kind of stuff in some circles And unless I get blown away by POP or something else I missed, GEARS 2 is the SHIT… this year. Dudes and dudettes, fucking WAIT till you see the amazing graphics… just fucking wait. And yes, Xbots, accuse me all you want of being a Sony fanboy. Just remember two things:
#1- I just said GEARS 2 is the BEST fucking playing and looking game of the year… better than any PS3 game. And there are some damn good PS3 games, I feel.
#2- FUCK YOU! I ain’t no fan boy but this mother fucking game looks like nothing you’ve ever played… and you can hold me to that when this thing hits and when they start showing gameplay footage. It looks like a painting come to life- it’s THAT good looking.
David”
I can surmise three things from David. 1. He likes Gears 2 a little. 2. God of War 3 is going to kick ass. 3. He likes to curse. Cock. Balls.
God of War 3 is official. It’s one of the only big things to come from Sony’ press conference yesterday. here’s the first teaser trailer, which really doesn’t tell you much. It looks damn good in HD from the PlayStation Store, so grab it there if you have a chance.
We got our retail copies of God of War for PSP from Sony for review yesterday, and what did we find inside? Confirmation that God of War 3 is PS3-bound.
The instruction manual for God of War: Chains of Olympus has the above image on the back. We all knew the game was in development, but this say Coming Soon. Does that mean we might be seeing Kratos on the PS3 this year? I guess we’ll find out at Sony’s next Media Day, which should be in the coming months. We’ll keep you posted.
