Game With Loot Ninja – Gears of War This Thursday

Gears of War Screen

This week’s Game With Loot Ninja will be taking place Thursday night at 8pm ET. Get your Xbox 360’s ready and dust off your copy of Gears of War, because that’s what we’ll be playing. With they hype surrounding the sequel, we figured why not give the original game some attention.

If you’re interested in playing, leave your gamertag in the comments so we know who all wants to curb stomp each other.

Gears of War 2 Officially Announced

Gears of War Screen

Microsoft’s keynote today at GDC, but that doesn’t mean their European PR team can’t drop a press release early. In the document, they announced Gears of War 2 in conjunction with Epic. Is anyone really surprised?

The game will be released in November 2008, and will provide more of the story that was originally developed as a trilogy.

The first Gears was a huge success, which we gave Game of the Year in 2006. So go play through that first game again a few times while we wait for Marcus Fenix to make his return later this year.

Rumor Mill: Gears 2 Announcement Coming at GDC

Rumor has it that Microsoft will be dropping the announcement at this year’s Game Developer Conference on a release date for Gears of War 2.

While we do know the game is coming at some point, it’s been rumored that 2008 is when we’ll see Cliffy B’s killer sequel. And given the fact we haven’t heard from Cliffy in quite some time, it would indicate he’s hard at work on some game, with Gears of War 2 being the most logical explanation.

Only time will tell, as GDC is right around the corner. Stay tuned as we get more information.

First User Cooked PS3 Mod for Unreal Tournament 3

UT3 Action Cam Screen

Now that the mod tools have been released for the Unreal Editor 3, we’ve got our first user cooked PS3 mod. And it’s a damn good one at that. The mod is called Action Cam v1.0. This mutator allows you to play UT3 with an over the shoulder view, similar to Gears of War. How cool is that?

Enter the battle with an over the shoulder camera and see the Action from an all new perspective! Action Cam is designed to offer better visibility, depth, and feedback to the player than the normal first person view, and offers pixel-perfect accuracy.

There’s a few issues right now, which will be addressed in an update to the mutator from Fall, the author. Check the Epic Forums for the download link and get the update when it’s available. Great job, Fall! Keep it up!

Co-Op Games, Loot Ninja Call to Arms

halo-3-coop.jpg

Ok folks, things have slowed down in my life finally. Wedding is over, Holidays and traveling are over, so it’s time to buckle down and finish some games. I’m looking to play through Halo 3 and Gears of War, both co-op, on the Xbox 360 (once Live is working properly). Both on Normal, just want to play through. Here’s my problem: my game saves somehow got corrupted when I transferred everything to my new Xbox 360 Elite after the last one broke, so we’re starting from the beginning.

If you have the skills and the time, let me know. I’d like to play a few hours a day and rock through both of them within the next 2 weeks. I’m also trying to go through BioShock and Ratchet and Clank Future, but that’s on my own. Damn Rock Band is sucking up a ton of time, but I want to get back to finishing the games I’ve already started.

Unreal Tournament 3 Character = Dom Santiago ?

UT3 Dom

I know both UT3 and Gears are sharing the Unreal 3 engine, but couldn’t Epic have been a little more creative with the character modeling here? Take a look at the image above. On the left is Reaper of the Ronin team. He’s the main character you play in the Campaign. On the right is Dom Santiago, the secondary character from Gears of War. Notice the resemblance here?

I know character faces aren’t what you notice most in an Unreal game, but the graphics in UT3 are so terrific you do here. And having your cover boy look really close to a character from another AAA title in your stable isn’t the best option, in my opinion. Again, not the biggest of deals, just seems a bit lazy in my eyes.

Gears of War Art Director Working on Thundercats Movie

Snarf ImageThundercats is my favorite cartoon ever. Hands down. Now word comes along that a new movie is coming, being directed and created by Jerry O’Flaherty.

Who the hell is Jerry O’Flaherty you ask? The’s the guy behind the art direction of Gears of War. Remember that game, that’s still one of the best looking titles of this generation? Yeah, he’s making a Thundercats movie.

Hopefully he doesn’t turn the class cartoon into a dark affair, because there’s a lot of people with high expectations, myself included. Either way, I’m very excited for this.

Marcus Fenix: Lego Warrior

Lego Marcus Fenix

Let’s face it, Lego’s are all the rage these days. From video games using them to toys about video game characters, everybody wants some Lego Lovin.

Marcus Fenix, the ever popular main character from Gears of War, has now been immortalized in Lego glory. The guys over at Brickshelf put this together for everyone’s enjoyment. Check their site for more pictures.

I want instructions, because I need one of these. I’m a huge fan of gaming relating toys to fill my desk.

Reminder: Gears of War Hidden Fronts Map Pack Now FREE

Gears of War Screen

Just a friendly reminder that you can now download the Hidden Fronts map pack for Gears of War on the Xbox 360 for free. That’s right, FREE. Previously costing 800 MS Points, the now free pack consists of four maps.

Bullet Marsh: In this Kryll-infested swamp, an old generator still powers the area lights. A few stray bullets could easily knock out the generator, leaving combatants to fend for themselves against the Kryll.

Garden: This overgrown and crumbling conservatory still has a working fertilization and pesticide system. This system can pose a serious hazard to anyone who ventures into the greenhouse without first venting the air.

Process: Teams must fight for control of this subterranean Imulsion processing plant, still active despite the cessation of the Pendulum wars.

Subway: Timgad’s Central Subway station used to serve as a central hub for commuters. Now the tunnels are crawling with Locust.

These maps are needed for the extra 250 achievement points in the game. So now you don’t have to pay for that extra gamerscore. I grabbed them yesterday, but I’m too engrossed by BioShock to take the game out of the tray.
