Chainsaw Duels = Futuristic Hug!

Gears 2 Chainsaw Duel

Look at those two up there!  The Locust and Gears clans, joining together finally for peace and happiness between the two factions.  Happy at last after years of fighting and confrontations, sharing their territory with each other finally.  I want you to take away the chainsaws, or better yet, imagine that those two chainsaws are essentially candles.  Symbolic candles, like those you would see in a wedding ceremony that are used to show the joining of two families coming together.  Wait? What’s that?  Oh, there is going to be double XP weekend and whoever wins this fight gets 500 bonus XP? SHIT! Kill ‘em ALL!

Taking a gander over at the testosterone filled Gears of War 2 forums lets you know all of the ingredients needed to make a Gears man.  What is needed to make a Gears man you ask?  Why, its bulging sweaty biceps, back hair, stubble, a soul patch of hair under the bottom lip, and quite possibly a do-rag (optional).  You will also find a few chatty characters in the Gears forums as well, probably complaining.  Deep inside the forums is a post laying the groundwork for a very busy Labor Day weekend for US celebrators.  It’s time for another double XP extravaganza hosted by Epic Games.

Xbox Live Banhammer Coming to Gears 2 Cheaters as Reset-hammer

banhammer

XBL has been pretty clear that they don’t like cheating. For some reason, people are still so hard for achievements that they risk being reset to zero for a few gamerscore points for the hard to get milestones. Major Nelson dropped some knowledge on us recently about the upcoming beat down:

Deliberate cheats like these are in direct violation of the Xbox LIVE Terms of Use and will not be tolerated. As I post this, we’ve begun taking steps to reset the Gamerscores of the offending players.

I could see if you had to cheat on your Spanish quiz because you didn’t study or cheat at strip poker to get some girls topless, but cheating at gamerscore? Making us all look bad there d-bag.

Loot Ninja Community Playdate Wrap Up

Xbox 360 Community Playdate

After weeks of prep, we finally hosted our Xbox 360 Community Playdate with Gears of War 2 last night. While we officially played from 8-11pm ET, a bunch of us were on early and late to get in as many games as possible. I think overall, we played over 500 rounds during the official time frame. Matches were mixed over almost every map and every game mode.

We’re very pleased with how everything turned out, especially the reaction we got from all the cool gamers we played with out there. There really are some cool people on Xbox Live, you just have to sift through the assholes.

I’m hoping we can do this again sometime with Microsoft. To everyone we played with, thanks for making it a memorable experience. To those we couldn’t get to, we wish we could have played with you. We’ll play Gears of War 2 again soon with our weekly Game with Loot Ninja nights, so check back and get in on the action.

Again, we want to thank Microsoft for this opportunity! But most importantly, we want to thank you, our wonderful readers, for checking us out and playing with us!

It’s Here! Loot Ninja Community Playdate is TONIGHT!

Gears of War 2 Punch Screen

At long last, the wait is over. Tonight is our Community Playdate on the Xbox 360! Officially, we’ll be playing Gears of War 2 from 8-11pm ET. I have a feeling a lot of us will be online both before and after that timeframe.

If you managed to get onto our friends lists before they filled up, send us a game invite. If you didn’t, just shoot us a message and we’ll hop into your games or invite you to ours. We’ll be doing our best to move around from game to game in various game types and maps.

We want to thank Microsoft for giving us this opportunity! We’re all pretty damn excited to rock out some Gears 2 with everyone tonight! :)

Rumor Mill: Gears of War 2 Single Player DLC Planned

Gears of War 2 Screen 3

More news coming out of Comic Con is that Gears of War 2 may have something planned for us soon. The campaign was a huge step in the right direction, but still left gamers wanting more from the story arcs that we have a hard time following. Here is what the gaming front network is reporting:

Gears of War 2 writier Joshua Ortega basically confirmed that single player DLC is on its way for Gears of War 2. When asked of single player DLC at NYCC 09 he said: “Keep watching. You won’t be disappointed.

Would I download single player DLC for Gears 2? Maybe. It all depends on how much and what kind of DLC it is. Episodic, I would be all for. If it just some re-imagined maps. probably not.

Epic is Working on a New Ranking System

Gears of War 2 Multiplayer

Do you despise the Gears of War 2 ranking system?  Well, you are not in the minority apparently.  Epic’s Rod Fergusson posted in the Gears of War 2 forums about a possible rank system change and just from a quick glance at the comments, it seems most players are absolutely for it.

The change would add player experience levels.  Each player would be rated on their individual performance in public multiplayer matches. The higher your score is at the end of each match, the more experience points you will acquire.  Rod Fergusson addressed the most obvious question stating:

“Of course the experience gained across the different match types would be balanced so you couldn’t just grind on the respawning game types to try and level faster.”

The amount of experience points needed to level up would grow with each level attained, just like an RPG.  The levels would be capped as well, 99 being the highest level attainable.  At the end of every match players will be able to check their stats and see how many more points are required to level up.  Sounds dandy.

Players who quit would be penalized by being demoted a level.  Maybe this would finally stop people from dropping out in the middle of a game that is out of reach.

The only problem that wasn’t addressed is other players stealing kills.  When an opponent has been downed, you may be seeing a lot more players scrambling to steal another players kill to level up even quicker.  I guess there is no way to address this other than screaming at your teammates.  I will stop complaining because this would be a welcomed update even with this added challenge.
