One of the keynotes at this year’s Game Developers Conference will be from none other than Metal Gear Solid creator, Hideo Kojima. His keynote, “Solid Game Design: Making the ‘Impossible’ Possible”, will focus on overcoming development obstables in creative game design. Obviously, he’ll be using Metal Gear Solid as an example.
This will be Kojima’s first keynote at GDC and it will take place on Thursday March 26th. We’ll be there to cover it every step of the way.
Maybe he’ll talk about why he went with camel toe for the Beauty and the Beast boss characters in MGS4. One can only hope.
Instead of strapping a Wii-mote to your head, this makes use the PlayStation Eye camera. Pretty damn cool. I wonder how long until we see this adapted into games on the PS3? It’ll see a ton of PlayStation Eye’s, that’s for damn sure.
Sony unveiled the top 10 purchased items on the PlayStation Network since it launched a little over a year ago. Here’s your top 10:
flOw
Mortal Kombat II
Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection
PAIN
Warhawk
High Velocity Bowling
Super Stardust HD
Calling All Cars
Aquatopia
Everyday Shooter
flOw is a good game, but I’m honestly surprised it’s number one. The list is full of some damn fun games though. If you haven’t checked most of these out, go download them now. Now I say!
According to the GDC banner on the Xbox 360 Dashboard, we can expect a Ninja Gaiden 2 demo soon. Apparantly, trailers and gamer pictures aren’t all that was planned for Microsoft’s Bringing It Home for GDC.
The link in the Dashboard for the demo is pseudo grayed out right now, but we expect it to go live before the end of the week.
I, for one, can’t wait to use those claws to slash up some enemies.
If you’re hoping for the ability to download PSP titles and demos directly from your handheld, you’re prayers will be answered. According to Chris Eden from Sony, here’s what you can expect:
Access native PLAYSTATION Store on PSP via wireless hotspot
Purchase and download content direct to PSP (no USB cable)
Unfortunately, the time frame for release is to be determined. Hopefully this is something coming this year. For Mac users like me, it’s difficult to get titles from the PC PlayStation Store. I have to boot up Parallels to run it under Windows.
There’s still issues with getting mods for the Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament 3. In an interview with Joystiq at GDC, Mark Rein said absolutely no progress has been made on the Xbox 360 front. In fact, the game still has no release date on the platform.
Mark Rein also acknowledged the fact that getting mods onto the PS3 isn’t the best process and that we’d see improvements soon. Hopefully that includes being able to download them directly from the PS3 easily.
Recently, at the GDC, Nintendo finally debuted their best of what’s to come. This includes Wiiware, WiiFit, and Super Smash Bros Brawl. Below is the offcial press release Nintendo just sent us in regards to the upcoming releases. Read on to see what Nintendo thinks about what is supposed to bring the Wii back into the mainstream.
Community developed games are coming to Xbox Live. Games created with the XNA Studio by anyone in the community can be submitted for peer review to be downloaded worldwide on Xbox Live.
“The time has come for the games industry to open its doors to all game creators, enabling anyone to share their creations with the world,” said John Schappert, corporate vice president of LIVE, Software and Services for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. “Our goal is to drive a creative and social revolution in games with the same transformative power that we’ve seen in digital music and video sharing.”
There’s currently seven games up for download that were created by people out there in their homes. To get the games, head over to the Xbox Live Marketplace, go to All Games, and scroll down to the XNA category. Download the XNA Creators Club Game Launcher, which will add a new category in your Games Library portion of the dashboard. From there, you can hit Y to download the games. It’s a bit overly complicated right now, so expect Microsoft to make things easier in the future.
Sony has confirmed that we will not be seeing any announcements for in-game XMB or Home at GDC. A comment on PlayStation.Blog asked: “Please either confirm or debunk the ingame XMB/HOME/Achievements coming VERY soon rumours !!” Jeff Rubenstein, Social Media Manager at Sony, had this to say in response:
If by “VERY soon” you mean this week – debunked.
I see the same rumors, and they’re just that – rumors. Literally 95% of what I’ve read this week is just groundless speculation. But hey, that’s the game biz.
There you have it. We’re going to have to wait a little bit longer to pull up that elusive XMB during gameplay. And Home is just around the corner, but isn’t ready for the prime time just yet. Patience friends, patience.
