Okay, this post is for all you broke, penniless, spindle toting gamers like me who can barely afford to pay attention.
We here at Loot Ninja are all poor, working stiffs, thanks mostly to our wives and/or girlfriends spending all our money on useless random crap, like “furniture” and “the water bill”. This does not include Scuba, because he’s a fancy man and loves to sit naked on his imported Scandinavian furniture, while sipping expensive wine and nibbling cheese cubes.
Anyways, we will be bringing back the old “Broke Bastard Alerts”, and trying to polish that turd up a little more. We like to think of ourselves as the oil speculators of the gaming market. Rest assured, when the prices drop, we are ALL over it.
Here’s the deals for this go round.
- DLC titles Brain Challenge, Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting, and 3D Ultra MiniGolf Adventures are now available at 400 Microsoft Points each on XBLA.
- Amazon.com this week price cut Xbox Live Gold Card SKU’s by 20%, including the Xbox Live 3-month Gold Card at $15.99, and the Xbox Live 12-month Gold Card at $39.99
So get ‘em while the gettin’s good.
As usual, user submissions are welcome, so if you see a great deal on anything gaming related, send it our way and we’ll post it up.

There are more shows on MTV besides spoiled teens running around spending their parents money and interning at fashion magazines. MTV has their “True Life” series which portrays people of a certain disposition in a “real” fashion. MTV did a special called, “I am a Gamer” which highlighted the lives of a Golden Tee player, a gaming clan, the world’s best Unreal Tournament player, and the world’s best Pac-man player. You know, the bad guy from “Fistful of Quarters”. He makes hot sauce and has long hair. We think he is kind of a jerk.
Anyway, MTV is casting for this show. Who knows, it may get you laid. Maybe. Here is the link. Show up and get your 15 minutes of fame. All of those hours you spent playing Diablo II need to count for something, right?

Video game —> Movie often equals horrible consequences. Street Fighter, Double Dragon, Super Mario Bros, anything with Uwe Boll’s name on it. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Hit the jump for all the current movies that are slated to be made from gaming. Of course, a good portion of these won’t be made and a good portion that are made will be fucking awful. Which ones are you guys excited about and which ones are you hoping do not get green-lit?

We know it’s coming eventually, it’s really just a matter of how soon and who it will be that does it. We are privileged every so often to see a 3D movie, and soon 3D commercials on television. All you need is to pick up those goofy 3D glasses and BAM, 3D (maybe it’s a bit more technical than that but you see what I mean). With the next generation-super-systems must come the next generation of graphics, controls, games, genres, and anything else that has been created or improved throughout the course of video game history, and I think 3D graphics is definitely a way they can and will go.
From an article about Sony’s CES keynote:
“When it came to the idea of 3D gaming, Sony was implicit but never explicit. During his keynote, Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer showed attendees a still from Gran Turismo 5, rendered in 3D. “You’ve never seen the game like that,” he claimed.”
So it seems Sony is trying to break into, or create, this new generation of gaming. NVIDIA has also released 3D glasses that can bring your video games to 3D life. All of this is speculation, but it’s obvious the video game world is going to move in specific directions, and 3D gaming, as well as possibly virtual reality gaming, is definitely, more than likely, on their plate of things they are going to try. So which system, or company will be able to change the gaming community this time? Who knows, but we can always speculate.

Have you ever had an older relative see you playing video games and have them pompously say to you, “Those things will rot your brain?” Well, it turns out they were wrong, in fact they were so wrong that I think it may constitute irony. As it turns out, video games may actually keep your brain from rotting. According to this article from Reuters, video games may benefit the aging brain. In a study of 40 adults in their 60s and 70s, researchers found that those who learned to play a strategy-heavy video game (the game used in the study was “Rise of Nations”) improved their scores in a number of tests of cognitive function. The article goes on to state that this is the first study to suggest such findings but the results were, “very promising.”
I always said I would be a gamer until I died, now I have a great excuse. We’ll know that the elderly are a target demographic as soon as we see the first “Murder She Wrote,” survival horror game.

I’m not really a comic book reader at all, I’ve probably bought five of them in my whole life with the last one being at least fifteen years ago. In fact, I had to call my comic book fan friend, Jesse Hubberd (thanks Jesse), just to be sure that I had all of my facts and timing straight. This is written from a gamer’s perspective for gamers and is just a few observations on things that our fellow geeks have gotten right and we need to learn from.
#1. THE GATHERING
Comic-Con is a legitimate entertainment event. Last year’s event boasted 126,000 attendees and quite a few celebs. It is a place where sneak preview trailers are shown to fans as big Hollywood players wait anxiously for the verdict of the geek. That said, the news_this_week that E3 is trying to return to its former glory is something that should have all gamers rejoicing. It does not mean that instantly it will rival Comic-Con in relevance, (though I hope some day it might), it just means that gaming finally has its big show back. E3 was, and hopefully again will be, THE place each year where game developers better bring their big guns, and a place for gaming to get its time in the spotlight.
