Devil May Cry 4 Looks Slightly Better on 360, Contols Better on PS3

Devil May Cry Image

GameSpy got some hands on time with the demos for Devil May Cry 4 for both the Xbox 360 and PS3 at Leipzig. It’s the same demo from earlier this year, just now playable on the Xbox 360. Their impressions? The Xbox 360 looks ever so slightly better, but the PS3 version has better controls.

The PS3 version looks marginally less refined to us, but anyone looking to start a console-superiority argument wouldn’t have much ammo here. Both games look amazing. It’s the controls, however, where we felt the biggest difference.

Argue however much you will; after five and a half years of hacking, slashing, and shooting demons, we and millions of gamers are very accustomed to the feel of the PlayStation controller, be it Dual Shock 2 or Sixaxis, for the DMC experience. Our gripe with the Xbox 360 demo is that the controls feel too directly ported over to Microsoft’s controller, and it’s not a good ergonomic fit.

I’m sure as the game gets closer to release, both the graphics and controls will be refined for both systems. Hopefully Capcom doesn’t pull an EA and focus on one version only.

GameSpy Brings Cross Platform Multiplayer to Unreal Engine 3

GameSpy LogoEpic and GameSpy (owned by IGN) today announced a deal where GameSpy’s multiplayer technology will be incorporated into Unreal Engine 3. The deal affects PS3 to PC cross-platform play. Other features being included in the engine are communication tools, competition apps, matchmaking, stat tools, community features, leaderboards, and unannounced new features that may turn up down the line.

The kicker is that GameSpy says this could work for brining cross platform play in a single game to the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. How cool would that be?

GameSpy has the technology to actually connect gamers across virtually any platform for multiplayer play, even Xbox 360 to PS3 to PC. “We’re huge believers in cross-platform play,” said [Todd] Northcutt [GameSpy Technologies Director]. But he said it’s ultimately up to Microsoft and other game companies to realize the dream of total cross-platform gameplay.

I have a tingling feeling that Microsoft will want no part of this. They have their own Games for Windows Live stuff for cross platform play. Hang this one up there with your dream of the next Duke Nukem game dropping this decade.

GameSpy got their hands on 2 new screens for Crysis. The level of detail in this game is just amazing. It might be PC upgrade time when this thing comes out. We’re all gonna need an insanely powerful box to get it to look like these screens.

Gears of War Image

GameSpy decided to throw their hat in the ring and rank their top 25 video game cinematics of all time.

Their winner: Gears of War’s Mad World trailer. I have to say, this is probably my favorite cinematic too. The mood, the music, the characters… it just all came together perfectly.

What do you think of their list? Let us know in the comments.

The full list is after the jump.

Wii Will Use GameSpy for Online Gaming

GameSpy LogoJust like they do with the DS, Nintendo has announced a new partnership with GameSpy to provide the online gaming service for the Wii. It had been rumored that Nintendo was withholding it’s multiplayer code from third party developers for the Wii, and this is why, as they were hammering out the final details of the partnership. Pokémon Battle Revolution, due June 25th, will be the first game to take advantage of this service.

From the press release:

“This partnership will expand our wireless community of players on Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection,” said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. “Millions of Nintendo DS users have already logged on using GameSpy’s technology, and now Wii owners will be able to do the same in a fun and easy-to-use environment.”

Now if only GameSpy could pressure Nintendo to get rid of those damn friend codes. If they don’t work globally with one friend code per system, I’m gonna go apeshit.
