Sony Working on Firmware Update to Fix GTA Freezing Issues

GTA IV

Rockstar has thrown the ball back at Sony in terms of the freezing issues plaguing PS3 gamers with Grand Theft Auto IV. Apparently, Rockstar didn’t do any testing with the 60GB console and the extra hardware inside is what’s causing the issue. At least that’s what they told a forum poster over at the official PlayStation forums.

So let me get this straight. I bought a 60GB console so I could have complete backwards compatibility and now there’s issues caused by that SKU? I hope Sony gets this straightened out so these issues don’t ever come up again because of differences in internal parts.

We’ll keep you posted as we hear more from Sony and Rockstar regarding the issue.

GTA IV Freezing on the PS3

In case you have not heard problems with GTA IV are being confirmed, there are some freezing issues on the PS3 and no one has figured out how to fix it yet or where exactly it is coming from, there was some speculation that is was happening on launch PS3’s only, but that has been dis-proven. Watch as this guy drives around and the game randomly freezes for a few seconds, pretty annoying. I have also gotten confirmation that similar things are happening on the Xbox 360 as well.

Bully for Xbox 360 Suffering Major Glitches and Crashes

Bully Screen

Only a day after its release, Bully is making headlines for all the wrong reasons. The game is a mess to play right now according to many gamers in many forums right now reports xboxer.tv. The game apparently has freezes in many points of the games and in some instances, total lock up which results in restarting. This happened with Bioshock and they rushed to fix it, only to screw up some more in the process, but eventually it was remedied. Not sure who is Beta testing these games but they should be ready when GTAIV comes out. If this happens, Rockstar is in for a world of scrutiny and flaming bags of dog shit on their doorsteps.

Problems with OXM Demo Discs 76 and 77

FrustratedTypically I like to pick up print publications to see what other writers and editors view of the video gaming world are in contrast to our own and our friends. I admit that the Official Xbox Magazine is one of those publications I have a subscription to and typically enjoy but recently one of my favorite things in the publication, the demo discs, has been frustrating me to no avail.

Last month in the OXM demo disc #76, I had multiple problems with demos freezing in both the regular and arcade versions and I thought it might be my Xbox 360 acting up, but I did not show any problems playing regular discs. Now I received the OXM demo disc #77 and was pretty psyched to try out the new demo for Guitar Hero III, so I fired it up. What do I get? Disc unplayable, Mixed Media disc, pretty much a nice steaming pile of crap and not even the ability to check out the demo or even open the disc.

Has anyone else had these problems as well? Am I the only unlucky one with a nice shiny new GH III demo and no ability to play it? Shame on you you OXM, shame!

Super Paper Mario PAL Has Some Bugs

Super Paper Mario Screen

The PAL edition of Super Paper Mario, which was heavily delayed from the US version, has a disturbingly major bug: the game will crash at a certain point, forcing a system restart. CVG got some information on Nintendo for a work-around:

“At the start of Chapter 2-2, you will come across a character called Mimi. She will tell you to go to the farthest room on the first floor to meet a character called Merlee. Enter that room and press the green switch. A trap will be triggered, and a spiked ceiling will descend upon Mario. Before the ceiling reaches him, flip into 3D and jump on it to find a key.

“If you pick up the key, you won’t run into any problems. Use it to open the locked door to Mimi’s right. However, if you talk to Mimi without picking up the key, the game will freeze. You will then have to turn off your Wii console and start again from your last save point.”

Basically, don’t mess up and miss the key. Nintendo is going to issue a replacement program for the discs, with information expected in the next week or so. Sorry PAL owners, that six month wait doesn’t seem to have been worth it.
