Sony has confirmed what I had initially thought. Those in-game XMB screens we saw are fake.
“The XMB images are fake,” Sony told [CVG], adding: “There are no firmware updates planned for January.”
Looks like we’ll have to wait a bit longer for this much anticipated feature. Patience young jedi. Patience.

It seems that some dumb ass found a way to fake the press release saying Excite Truck 2 was coming.
Nintendo contacted CVG with a report that the press release was in fact fake, even with the fake screenshots.
Ugh.
