Sony President: “We Don’t Buy Exclusivity”

PS3 Image

Take that Microsoft. Sony Computer Entertainment America President, Jack Tretton (that’s a lot of capitalized words), took a stab at Microsoft in the latest issue of PSM magazine.

“We have a very different approach to exclusives than some of our competitors. We don’t buy exclusivity. We don’t fund development. We don’t, for lack of a better term, bribe somebody to only do a game on our platform. We earn it…”

Ouch. We’ve all read the reports, so it’s not that far off the truth either. We know Microsoft paid $50 million to get exclusive GTA4 episodic content. I have to say, I do agree with Jack Tretton here. Don’t just throw cash around to get your way. While saying that, Sony needs to do a LOT more to “earn” some games for the PS3.

Exclusives Running Away from Xbox 360 Too

Kane and Lynch Image

The PS3 isn’t the only console losing it’s beloved exclusive third party games. Now the Xbox 360 has joined the party.

The once 360 and PC only titles from SCi, Kane & Lynch and Crossfire will now see their way onto the PS3. Both games looked pretty good with their initial trailers from earlier this year.

Things are looking up for Sony. I would venture to say the era of third party exclusives is over. It’s just too expensive now for third parties to develop just for one platform.

Final Fantasy XIII Not a PS3 Exclusive?

Final Fantasy XIII ImageRumors have been flying out exclusive titles since the next-gen started. Most have proven to be true.

Today’s big beef is that Final Fantasy XIII will be coming to multiple consoles. PS3 Center reports that Motomu Toriyama of Square Enix has confirmed that, along with the PS3, other consoles will see FFXIII. There’s no sources sited in the article, so I’m skeptical of the statement.

We all know there will be multiple games in the FFXIII series, with multiple storylines announced. Does this mean we’ll see the main FFXIII game on the Xbox 360 of Wii? I personally doubt it. Square Enix has been so loyal to the PlayStation for years. I can see a few of the side games coming to other consoles, but not the main FFXIII game.

What does everyone think? Let us know in the comments.
