When will the studios learn that not everything can be made into a movie!? Looks like the newest iteration will take our good friends Goku and Trunks to the silver screen, Dragon Ball Z will get a live action movie and from the looks of this early leak from Europe, it looks terrible. Chow Yun Fat without a gun just makes no sense, in fact he should not be allowed to make a movie unless he has two guns in his hands. I also like how the main character is American, they couldn’t find a Japanese lead actor?
What do you think enough with the live action business or long live the DBZ movie?
The new Street Fighter IV cover art has been unleashed onto the world and gamers profess… “whatever!” This game has such a huge and loyal fan base that the cover art could have been a steaming pile of poo and people would still flock in droves to the stores to purchase it. Some are actually complaining that they do not like the art on the cover, and to them I say “Silence! Chun Li flexing her muscles at you is all you need and all you will get or you will not play the game. So it is written so it shall be done.”
Let’s explore some other potential artwork for the cover. My thought would have been a tribute to the original classic Street Fighter II and have the opening scene of that game on the cover where the generic blonde guy clocks the other dark haired guy.
What do you think, would you liked to have seen something different on the cover art? Or is it fine the way it is?
Hit the jump to see the European version. OOooooo La la.
It looks like the newest Sega incarnation Phantasy Star Portable for the PSP has sold over 500,000 copies within its first week of release. Looks like the portable version is in competition with the big boys and giving Crisis Core a run for its money for the top spot.
Here are the numbers of the other Phantasy Star titles in their first week to give you a comparison:
Phantasy Star Online (Dreamcast) - 84,689
Phantasy Star Online V2 (Dreamcast) - 119,159
Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II (Gamecube) - 74,801
Phantasy Star Universe (Playstation 2) - 124,059
Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the Illuminus (Playstation 2) - 23,665
Hopefully this will be enough proof for Sega to take this game seriously and bring it over to Europe and North America; so far no official dates are listed for either.
If there were an award for giving a game manufacturer the cold shoulder, Square Enix would win hands down. Actually they would win a few times. Let me elaborate…
Square Enix first shunned Nintendo back in the 90’s when it decided to move over to the Sony Playstation format after having a long standing relationship with Nintendo and it’s many FF titles. Now it is switching sides again and jumping on the Microsoft bandwagon with the announcement of Final Fantasy XIII for the Xbox 360. But no sooner do they hug Microsoft with one arm than stab them in the back with the other by announcing that there will be no 360 version in Japan. Read More »
1 million does not seem that significant, but the gaming community in Europe is very different than over here and especially when compared to Japan. Conquering the European market is a critical step for any company and the sheer number of units sold in the past two weeks gives Sony a nice footprint in their sales demographics.
In case some of you hadn’t noticed I have been gone for the last couple of weeks traveling. I spent a couple of weeks in Germany watching futbol (soccer for those of you in America) and drinking tasty beer, it is a hard job, but some one had to do it.
So that meant no video games for me for the last two weeks except for my trusty DS and The World Ends With You, that game continues to grow on me the more I play it. Unfortunatley I learned a quick lesson, the power charger on the DS is not rated to European electricity, so once my DS died it was dead.
After being in Germany and watching a lot of futbol, since the European Champions League is happening right now, I really feel like picking up a copy of a good soccer game, perhaps the newest FIFA or Winning Eleven Seven. Futbol is huge in Europe and is a lot of fun to watch with a beer in one hand a soccer hooligan screaming around you.
Now that I am back in the swing of things it is time to get to the news and business of games to make our readers smile.
Today is the worldwide release of Metal Gear Solid 4. Our friends in Spain might not be so lucky and waiting might be in your future.
Do to a transport strike of various workers unions in Spain, shipments of the game may not reach their final destinations on time. You might need to hop across and pic up the game elsewhere if you really need it today. If not, encourage thoses unions to strike a deal to get Metal Gear on store shelves.
Sony is holding a PlayStation Day over in Europe today for some special European press. We aren’t European, so we’re sitting at home playing games and writing for you guys. But if you’re from across the pond or have an EU account on your PS3, here’s some new goodies you can download later today:

Some nice stuff there, especially the Haze demo. I might have to fire that one up for a bit.
Rock Band has finally been dated for May 23rd in Europe, but for the Xbox 360 only. PS3 and Wii players will have to wait until summer to get their hands on the game. I’m really not sure what the deal is here, since the PS3 and Wii each have much larger install bases in Europe. This timed exclusive deal is already causing a lot of gamers to get really pissed off, and I can’t say I blame them.
Another reason for the anger is the price… £180 to get your rock on in the UK. There’s no bundle, like in North America. You have to buy the game (£49.99) separate from the instrument pack (£129.99). To put it in perspective, when you convert US dollars to pounds, we’re paying roughly £90 for the entire bundle in the US. Double the price the Europe? Ouch.
I have a feeling Rock Band won’t be selling as well across the pond as it did in the US because of the price and delays for the major consoles over there. Only time will tell, though. We’ll keep you posted.
We all know it’s coming, but now Sony is throwing it in our faces. Well, faces of European gamers, actually. They put this nice little teaser up on the PlayStation Store just so we know that a new design is coming.
No one really knows what that design will be just yet. I’m hoping for something with some flare. We all love flare. We all love usability, too, which is something the PlayStation Store could use a bit more.
Hopefully Sony will release details and screenshots of the new Store before it goes live. Would be nice to see what we’re getting into.
