“Mystery Mania” is not the type of game that I would typically pick up and play, let alone pay money for. It isn’t a first person shooter, there are no fancy graphics, and the overall theme and story arch is something ripped from a Saturday morning cartoon. After playing for 5 minutes, you may actually start to wonder if this game was made for a 5-year old or that you are just THAT good at games. Brought to us from none other than EA, the game is a point and click adventure, where you find yourself navigating a lost robot named F8 through an old mansion, trying to figure out why/how he got locked up in there in the first place. See, what did I tell you, straight from a Saturday morning cartoon, right? However, as the gameplay progresses, the simple mechanics help keep the pace of the game moving, while the difficulty level slowly starts to ramp up, making for a pretty enjoyable gaming experience.
Mr. Potato Head is back and he’s ready to boogie. Hasbro Family Game Night 2 is coming for the Nintendo Wii this month. New games like Operation, Jenga, Boppit, Pictureka and Connect 4×4. Check out the video EA released and watch the potato man dance. It might not sell games but it’s kind of cute to watch.
This week we have been running a contest for a free copy of Spore Hero Arena for the DS. We did our drawing last night and the winner is… (drum roll please) … Cheyenne!
Look for an email soon. We need to get your mailing address. Thanks to everyone who entered.
Along with a slew of pre-order incentives (exclusive content), Bioware announced today that Mass Effect 2 will release on January 26th, 2010 in the US and on January 29th in Europe. Good news for RPG fans.
In North America, pre-order bonuses* include special-ops armor and weaponry that are designed to boost Commander Shepard’s skills and abilities. At GameStop, Terminus Gear is available with pre-orders, which includes the powerful Terminus Assault Armor and the M-490 Blackstorm Heavy Weapon:
The Terminus Armor is designed for use in extreme planetary conditions, increasing run speed and personal shields, and augmenting weapons with an additional magazine of reserve ammo.
The M-90 Blackstorm Heavy Weapon generates a high-powered localized gravity well, accelerating particles to near-infinite mass, and ultimately expanding the selection of heavy weapons available to players when they gear up for combat missions in Mass Effect 2.
Players that pre-order Mass Effect 2 at other retail outlets in North America will receive the potent Inferno Armor, which is used by officers to monitor battlefield conditions by recognizing elevated heart rates, and regulates sub-systems with extreme efficiency to allow for greater response times – together these abilities translate in-game into a negotiation bonus for Commander Shepard and an increase in run speed and augmented damage from combat powers.
Personally, I didn’t think Mass Effect 2 would be released so soon, and I’m really excited for the new year now. I guess the wait for January 26th starts now…
EA sent out a short new trailer for the Nerf N-Strike Elite for the Wii. This game was previewed on Loot-Ninja last month. If you missed the article you can read it here. Due to hit stores on Oct. 27th, 2009.
EA will release a simpler version of the popular football game called ”Madden NFL Arcade”, which features “pick-up and play” 5-on-5 games.
The game appears to be more casual compared to its more realistic, and complex siblings. Players get four downs to march 60 yards and score a touchdown. The first team to 30 wins. Players can also use “Game Changers,” special power-ups to give players the upper hand, such as freezing an opponent’s receiver or turning off their passing icons.
Madden NFL Arcade will sport visuals similar to what EA used for the Nintendo Wii release of Madden NFL 10, and will sell as a download on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network for $15 this December.
The release of Madden NFL Arcade is also going to try and address one of the sports genre’s biggest issues: As controls for sports simulations bet more and more complicated, it gets harder and harder for newer players to catch on.
The Need for Speed franchise has slowly gone down the shitter over the course of the last few video games in the series. Need for Speed: Undercover ended up getting an average Metacritic Rating sitting around the 60 mark between the PS3 and 360 versions, and NFS: Carbon got a better rating around 76 rating on the Xbox 360. Overall, not great, but not bad. Passable if we were going by school grades, but nothing spectacular to take home to mom. The new Need For Speed, entitled “SHIFT” looks to revamp the franchise, crank up the intensity, and pull the Need for Speed franchise kicking and screaming out of the late Fast and the Furious era, and hopefully give you a break from running from those pesky cops.
Does the new Need for Speed game do it’s 84 Metacritic Rating justice? Do you care? Does the title need to have that “f” taken out of the “Shift”? Find out after the jump when I give my impressions of the Need For Speed: Shi(f)t demo.
Liked the original Left 4 Dead but thought it was missing something? Iconic zombie killing weapons like a fire axe or baseball bat? How about a larger variety in weapons? No? What about a shopping mall?
The final two campaigns of Left 4 Dead 2 have been “leaked” by a Taiwanese site, and if the above poster is any indication, Dead Center takes place in a shopping mall. The other campaign, Hard Rain, looks like it takes place in an industrial complex and there may be some sort of precipitation involved.
At any rate, a mall campaign is exactly what I wanted to play in the original game – is there really anything more awesome than killing zombies in a mall?
That’s right, we’re having a contest. We have a brand new unopened copy of the new DS game, Spore Hero Arena, so we’re giving it away. If you want more information about the game, check out our previous articles.
All you have to do to enter is comment on this article. You can enter once per day, so keep coming back for more chances to win. Contest ends at midnight on Friday October 16th, 2009. The winner will be chosen at random and announced on Saturday, Oct 17th. Good luck!!
I’m excited for Dragon Age: Origins. How excited? Really excited. With a bunch of this year’s AAA titles pushed back into 2010, Bioware’s Dragon Age won’t have much competition for RPG of the year, and since it is a Bioware game, you’ll be guaranteed at least a decent RPG experience.
Anyway, as the release date for Dragon Age gets closer, more hands on previews have started popping up around the web. The video above, from GiantBomb, is a deliciously awesome twenty minute hands on – showing skill progression, customization, and combat, among other things. If you’ve got twenty minutes to kill it is certainly worth the watch.
